- Also, Mako and ther dad's hijinks during the visit of a certain foreign king. Especially when the King spanks Mako.
- Older Than They Think: Disney's version of The Little Mermaid seems to have been influenced by this series. Ariel resembles Mako's mermaid form (though she is a brunette as a human)
- Retroactive Recognition: Mako is played by Kazuko Sugiyama, who'd be one of the most famous seiyuu from The Seventies.
- Another veteran, Akira Kamiya, debuted here as a nameless boy and later took the role of Senkichi, one of Mako's classmates.

- Tear Jerker: Episode 32, Lulu lives on, is a big, giant tear. Mako sees a Big Friendly Dog being almost run over by a car and brings her home, takes care of her and starts looking for her owners. It turns out Lulu's "human" is a blind and very lonely rich girl named Nobuko, who raised Lulu ever since puppyhood, and she's being heavily mistreated by her Evil Uncle / Resentful Guardian aka the one who ran Lulu over...
