Manhua (simplified: 漫画(mànhuà); traditional: 漫畫(mànhuà)) are Chinese-language Comic Books produced in China and Taiwan.

The medium received its breakthrough moment in 1982 with Chinese Hero. In contrast to manga, Chinese manhua went for a more realistic style. Most also come in full color, some panels fully rendered as a painting. Most narratives from 1800-1930 featured serious characters. It received Western influence in the 1950s, and Japanese influence in the 60s.
