  • Before making a single edit, Tropedia EXPECTS our site policy and manual of style to be followed. Failure to do so may result in deletion of contributions and blocks of users who refuse to learn to do so. Our policies can be reviewed here.
  • All images MUST now have proper attribution, those who neglect to assign at least the "fair use" licensing to an image may have it deleted. All new pages should use the preloadable templates feature on the edit page to add the appropriate basic page markup. Pages that don't do this will be subject to deletion, with or without explanation.
  • All new trope pages will be made with the "Trope Workshop" found on the "Troper Tools" menu and worked on until they have at least three examples. The Trope workshop specific templates can then be removed and it will be regarded as a regular trope page after being moved to the Main namespace. THIS SHOULD BE WORKING NOW, REPORT ANY ISSUES TO Janna2000, SelfCloak or RRabbit42. DON'T MAKE PAGES MANUALLY UNLESS A TEMPLATE IS BROKEN, AND REPORT IT THAT IS THE CASE. PAGES WILL BE DELETED OTHERWISE IF THEY ARE MISSING BASIC MARKUP.

  • Anticlimax Boss: Baron (the Screws Gang's big boss) and his Medabot, Banisher, are made up to be fearsome opponents. The actual robattle ends as soon as Metabee shoots Banisher. Once.
    • If the games are to be believed, Banisher can only deal damage by counterattacking, and since Metabee headshot it (and Metabee is deceptively strong), he presumably dealt enough damage to knock him out. (Either that or the robot is just too weak to fight, and Baron instead tries to scare opponents into submission.)
  • Ass Pull: Suspected of the series finale. Medabots are revealed to be alien robots whose fighting nearly caused The End of the World as We Know It.
  • Complete Monster: Kam from Spirits. He has attempted to destroy the Metals belonging to the heroes' Metabots on several occasions. In one episode, when Ikki and Metabee refused to fight one of his Kilobots, Kam uses it attack random Metabots and destroy their Metals to force them into fighting it. And his treatment of Blakbeetle. Knowing she is a Kilobot with emotions, he treats her no differently from the rest of them. He has her discarded to the dump of his building after she failed to defeat Metabee, and inserted her Metal into Gryphon, forcing her to fight against the heroes.
    • Dr. Meta-Evil from season 1 would count as one. Prior to the series, he stole the medal theory reports from Professor Hushi and set fire to his home. Meta-Evil was pretty much responsible for the Ten Days of Darkness eight years ago; Which Hikaru/Henry got the blame for. Meta-Evil did all of this to have all the world's Medabots be the dominate lifeforms of the earth. With him as their ruler.
  • Crowning Music of Awesome: The dub had a surprisingly epic opening theme. An instrumental version would play during fight sequences.
  • Die for Our Ship: Poor Oceana. The dub did not help by moving her first appearance, originally the eighth episode, all the way to the filler section... at least thirty episodes later. After the Ship Tease episodes about Metabee/Brass. Cue the fanbase treating her like a rabid whore who wants to steal Metabee from Brass, who is suffering for her love. Karin doesn't necessarily get this as she's dumped on Kouji to make way for Ikki/Arika or Ikki/Kikuhime.
  • Ear Worm: Both the American Opening AND the original Japanese opening could be this for anyone that have heard them.
  • Ensemble Darkhorse: Mr. Referee.
  • Heartbreaking in Hindsight: In the original version, Hikaru is the one who names Metabee as such in the first place. Come 45 episodes later, and it also happens to be the clue about Hikaru's true relation to the Ten Days of Darkness... and about the origin of Metabee's armor... Of course, the dub affected this in the first place... trying to repairing it later in that afformentioned episode.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Ikki and Erika mocks Henry for trying to sell them an old KBT model. And then, guess which model does Ikki buy in later?
  • Memetic Badass: Coach Mountain is an interesting example as other characters in the show view him as this, though the fandom agrees.
Cquote1

Arika: "I heard he used to be a strong man at the circus and could bench press elephants. I also heard he chiseled out the faces on Mount Rushmore with his bare hands!"

Ikki: "And he stopped an erupting volcano by plugging it with his butt!"

Cquote2
  • Moe Moe: Karin on the human side; Saintnurse, Oceana, Brass, and others on the robot side.
  • Nightmare Fuel: The Robo-Emperor, anyone? The thing looks less like a medabot than a feral, mechanical, fully-armed Lamia. Or was clearly inspired by an EVA.
    • In Episode 51, Metabee experiences a dream state, during which he battles in a war against Rokusho and an army of Zorins. He becomes splattered with oil. Think what the human equivalent of that is...
      • In the same episode, Brass dies in the dream state. IN A KID'S SHOW.
    • In the manga, Medaforce basically boils the armor of a medabot when it manifests... yeah, it's exactly not an image that one can ignore. And also becomes a mindless Ax Crazy robot.
    • The Ankle Biters and Churlybear. HOT DAMN.
  • Off-Model: Due to the show's very simplified art style. Sometimes, a character can be depicted with only four fingers instead of the usual five. Incredibly noticeable in the second season onward due to Production I.G and Trans Arts taking over from Bee Train.
  • Viewer Gender Confusion: If she hadn't had such a feminine voice, it would have been hard to tell that Spirits' Blakbeetle is a female-frame Medabot.
  • The Woobie: Blakbeetle.
