And the Fandom Rejoiced: The return of Skarlet and Baraka caused the fans to SCREAM in the Reveal Event of January 2019. And later Jade and Kabal were announced too... Cue fan SQUEE.
And when Noob Saibot (playable since the start) AND Shang Tsung (DLC) were announced in March, the fandom squealed EVEN MORE
The reveal of the first DLC character batch caused the fandom to pretty much have orgasms. This is the list: the aforementioned Shang Tsung, Sindel, Nightwolf, Spawn and Terminator. And the second batch includes Sheeva, Fujin and Robocop.
And in 2020, there's the announcement of Aftermath, a DLC that is... an extension of the Story Mode. Followed by more DLC characters like Robocop, Fujin, the Joker, John Rambo and Mileena.
Awesome Ego: As usual, Johnny and his daughter, Cassie Cage.
There's also Kung Lao.
Estrogen Brigade: Mortal Kombat has slowly been gaining one of these since MK9 but this game in particular has one of the biggest one. Biggest reasons for this are: Kano, Sub-Zero, and Kung Lao (to name a few).
Fanon Discontinuity: Mileena is more often seen with her MKX look in fanart than the revamp of her more classic look the actual game gave her.
Her being beyond redemption is also this. Many would rather have her remain as an Anti-Villainess.
As far as people know, Sindel isn't an evil woman who willingly married Shao Kahn. She's a brainwashed queen who hates him and loves Kitana. This was so bad, the tag #NotMySindel was a trending tag for a while. When Mortal Kombat 1 has her back to her The High Queen self, many sighed in relief
Memetic Mutation: This game is deeply associated with "Core Values" meme that emerged after the organizers of EVO Japan 2019 censored their stream because of a Dead or Alive 6 promotion segment that they considered to be not part of their or the FGC's "core values". People soon mocked the Hypocrisy of EVO to censor sexual content and jokes while allowing extremely violent games like this one to be streamed uncensored, using Baraka's "Face Off" fatality in special.
Narm: The...21 Savage song played in the trailer reveal video.
Take That, Scrappy!: Plenty of people had fun torturing D'Vorah with fatalities. This came to a head when Mileena was finally implemented into the game and thus could take her revenge.
Ugly Cute: This rendition of Mileena is seen as this.
Unintentionally Sympathetic: Kung Lao. He is needlessly compared to Liu Kang and put down, so many felt sorry for him instead.
