My Dad the Rock Star (2003-2005) was an animated television series created by Kiss member Gene Simmons, and produced by Canadian company Nelvana. The show is about William "Willy" Zilla, a 14-year old boy just trying to be normal despite being the son of Rock Zilla, a Hot-Blooded Rock Star.

- Expy: Rock Zilla is, of course, an expy of series creator Gene Simmons.
- Fiery Redhead: Subverted, as Willy is about as mild-mannered as they get most of the time.
- First Kiss: Willy gets his with Angela D'angelo. Thanks to her parents, though, it never really went anywhere.
- Fish Out of Water: The Zillas.
- Granola Girl: Crystal, though she's slightly older than a "girl." More a Granola Woman.
- Good Parents: For being an aging, way out-there rocker and a New Age Retro Hippie, Rock and Crystal do their best to always be there for their kids and support them. Even if Rock does bungle it up from time to time.
- Happily Married: Rock and Crystal are clearly still crazy about each other.
- Hey, It's That Voice!: Dwight Schultz is the school principal.
- In both Spanish dubs (Venezuela and Madrid), Willy is Jimmy Two-Shoes. Likewise, in Spain and France, he's Sokka.
- Hot Mom: Crystal Zilla, who looks barely older than her daughter!
- I Just Want to Be Normal: Willy
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Serenity
- Jive Turkey: Subverted with Quincy, who tries to be hip hop but comes across as even geekier than Willy. Further subverted in that he comes from a straight-laced, white collar family.
- Large Ham: Rock Zilla. Of course, in his line of business, that's pretty much a job requirement!
- Last-Minute Hookup: Willy and Alyssa become an Official Couple at the end of the series.
- New Age Retro Hippie: Crystal, who combines this with a bit of Granola Girl.
- New Sound Album: One episode focuses on Rock trying to write one in order to change his image a little. He tries lots of styles before eventually settling on a sappy love ballad for his wife. Nobody's really happy with it... Except Crystal and Rock, of course.
- Overprotective Dad: To an extreme degree with Angela D'angelo's father. His wife is just as stifling.
- Rushmore Refacement: In a flashback, we learn that Rock once had his and Crystal's faces carved into Mount Rushmore for their anniversary.
- Sadist Teacher: Principle Malfactor
- Skunk Stripe: Skunk, obviously
- Soapbox Sadie: Alyssa
- Spell My Name with an "S": The short-lived official website spelled the name of Willy's female friend as Alissa. Everyone else spelled it as Alyssa, which stuck given that the original site is no longer around and had low traffic when it was.
- Team Pet: Mosh, the Zilla family's komodo dragon.
- Two Guys and a Girl: Quincy initially tries to break Willy and Alyssa up not because he is interested in Alyssa, but because he doesn't want to become a third wheel.
