Noddy is a fictional character created by English children's author Enid Blyton, originally published between 1949 and 1963. There are at least two dozens of Noddybooks.
Enid Blyton's books have been adapted into five animated series.
- The Adventures of Noddy (1955)
- Noddy (1975-1976)
- Noddy's Toyland Adventures (1992-1994)
- NODDY aka The Noddy Shop (1998-2000), a Canadian dub of Adventures framed with live action segments
- Make Way for Noddy (2001-2002)
- Noddy: Toyland Detective (2016)
Tropes used in Noddy include:
- All CGI Cartoon: Make Way and Detective
- Armless Biped: Inverted by Mr. Wobbly Man, whose arms are fine but his kind lacks legs.
- As You Know: Others occasionally remind Noddy "After all, you are made out of wood."
- British Coppers: PC Plod
- Framing Device: NODDY repurposes Adventures as stories that the main three tell about a set of toys in one box.
- Fun with Acronyms: The name of the antique toy store in NODDY stands for "Notions, Oddities, Doodads, and Delights of Yesterday".
- Living Toys: Characters are alive yet aware that they're toys, placing them on Sliding Scale level 4.
- Mouth Flaps: Adventures has none.
- No Export for You:
- Outside of France, the United Kingdom and Commonwealth countries, the original books by Enid Blyton were never released.
- Outside of Continental Europe, the UK and Ireland, and the Commonwealth countries, this applies to anything pre-Noddy's Toyland Adventures, as well as Noddy in Toyland, as they were never broadcast there. (Though Noddy in Toyland would be released in United States on Amazon). The 1975-1976 series was only broadcast in Europe, UK, Australia and Canada.
- Retool: Detective replaced most characters other than Noddy, his car (now named Revs), Bumpy, and Big Ears (now named Mr. Squeaks).
- Same Language Dub: NODDY dubs over the British-accented voices of Adventures.
- Sentient Vehicle: Noddy's car, named Revs in Detective.
- Speech-Impaired Car: Noddy's car
- Stop Motion: Adventures
- Woolseyism: Noddy's cab fare is in "sixpences" in Adventures, replaced with "quarters" in the dub.
