  • Complete Monster: Stronian, making her defeat by Richard even more satisfying.
  • Ensemble Darkhorse: Cosmo, who debuted in two issues of Nova's fourth series and was so popular he became a regular character in Guardians of the Galaxy.
  • Ho Yay: With Quasar. Don't deny it, it's there.
    • And with Silver Surfer, thanks to that cover where they looks like they're dancing.
  • Memetic Mutation: "I ripped Anihillus guts of. What have X done lately?"
  • My Real Daddy: Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning - their take on the character forced everybody else to stop treating him as an inexperienced rookie.
  • Replacement Scrappy: Sam Alexander for Richard Rider - After a mass of character development, becoming a cornerstone of Marvel's cosmic stories, and popular enough to appear in Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3 & receive talk of a movie adapting the character to the the big screen, everything was seemingly thrown out of the window just so they could have a new rookie Nova instead. This isn't helped by the fact that when Rider was trapped in the Cancerverse at the end of The Thanos Imperative, he'd pulled the entirity of the Nova Force from the rest of the Nova Corps to hold Thanos at bay, which has people asking how Sam is even a member of the Corps when there's no Nova Force to give him his powers.
    • It doesn't help that the first issue to flesh out Sam's personality has raised (rather exaggerated) fears of him being a Fad Super due to him briefly mentioning that he enjoys dubstep music while trying to take his mind off the fact that the Phoenix Force is right behind him.
    • And then it turned out that Sam Alexander was initially created for Ultimate Spider-Man, rather than simply using Richard Rider.
