Omegaverse is speculative fiction that deals with a secondary gender dynamic, typically based on canid-like behavior. These stories are usually set in a patriarchal society and concerns themselves with how these different gender classes interact with one another in the face of biological determinism.

This subgenre typically focuses on canid-like sexuality, and may include rutting for alphas and heat cycles for omegas, pheromonal attraction between alphas and omegas, knotting, scent marking, imprinting, breeding, mating rites, and pack structures. In short it makes use of Artistic License Biology.

Most omegaverse works focus on male-male couples, although works centering on heterosexual couples exist. All characters are born with a primary gender of being either female or male, and later on a secondary gender manifests during puberty, making them either an omega, alpha or beta. Female alphas and male omegas are hermaphroditic, as they both feature a uterus and male genitalia simultaneously in their own ways, and are usually depicted to be androgynous. It's not uncommon to see Has Two Daddies / Has Two Mommies played literally.

Omegas[]

Omegas (Ω) feature a uterus, usually connected to their rectum, that allow them to become pregnant regardless of their primary gender being male or female. To ease penetration and impregnation, male omegas often have self-lubricating anuses. Furthermore, omegas are affected by their heat cycle, which they can deal with through the use of inhibitors. Because of their physiology, they face discrimination and oppression in society, and are at risk of non-con or dub-con intercourse, forced pregnancies, kidnapping and sexual slavery. Because of this, they may hide their scent using chemical pheromones, to avoid falling victim to biological prejudices. Omegas with recessive genes are less feminine, and recessive omegas that are male may end up unable to be impregnated again after giving birth once. Omegas with dominant genes may sometimes appear like the Dude Looks Like a Lady.

Alphas[]

Alphas (α) are considered the dominant secondary gender. Regardless of their primary gender being male or female, alphas are able to impregnate an omega or a female beta. Alphas are affected by rutting, which can be dealt with through the use of inhibitors. Due to biological determinism, alphas are often depicted as upper class elites in stories featuring a rigid caste system. Alphas with recessive genes are less masculine and overpowering.

Betas[]

Betas (β) are usually regular human beings, as they lack a secondary gender. In some stories, betas are absent, and/or other intermediate genders such as deltas and gammas are added.
