Orangestar

Current YouTube avatar

Orangestar (Born August 20th 1997, also known with his producer handle Mikansei-P) is a Vocaloid composer mainly known for using IA as a vocal of choice and his many, many, many Summer-themed songs.

Debuted way back in 2013, Orangestar remains mostly under the radar for quite a while. His first hit song Mikansei Time Limiter drew some attention toward him, but it's his Earphones to Semishigure and Asu no Yozora Shoukaihan that finally brought him into mainstream attention, in which almost everything he's released entering the Hall of Fame or Hall of Legends ever since.

His songs are known for having "nostalgic" melodies; most of them are centered around the concept of Summer memories, with emphasis on guitar and piano instruments. Despite majorly known for his IA songs, he has also released songs that utilize Hatsune Miku and the CeVIO ONE.

Tropes found within his works and artist style[]

  • Breakthrough Hit: Earphones to Semishigure and Asu no Yozora Shoukaihan, especially the latter.
  • Call Back: Practically everywhere in Henceforth, which contains musical nods to several of Orangestar's previous songs, including but not limited to Kaisei, DAYBREAK FRONTLINE and of course Asu no Yozora Shoukaihan.
  • Concept Album: Each of his albums so far has been centered around a concept.
    • Mikansei Eight Beats is centered around a Summer day, with the first songs themed around "daytime", which then cycles toward "evening", with the final two songs themed around "dawn".
    • Mishuroku OSC contains songs that emphasizes the guitar.
    • SEASIDE SOLILOQUIES contains songs that emphasizes the piano.
  • Creator Thumbprint: Most of his songs (especially post-Mikansei Time Limiter) have a distinct style that separate themselves from other Vocarock songs. In particular, the songs usually invoke some kind of fleeting/"floaty" nostalgic feeling.
  • Design Student's Orgasm: The music video for CITRUS by Not-116 is very lively.
  • Feelies: SEASIDE SOLILOQUIES comes with two postcards featuring two of the Recurring Characters together. One of them is normal, while the other one has its background sepia-filtered.
  • Nostalgia Filter: Invoked in most of his songs.
  • Production Posse: It's pretty rare to see an Orangestar music video not illustrated by M.B. Additionally, Moyashi and pino handling the guitar and bass respectively.
  • Punny Name: His Voca-P title, Mikansei-P. Technically speaking, it means "incomplete", but it's also literally "Orange" (Mikan) "Star" (Sei, an alternate reading to Hoshi). Also counts as Bilingual Bonus for analytical fans.
  • Rearrange the Song:
    • Kimi no Yozora Shoukaihan is one to Asu no Yozora Shoukaihan.
    • Lingering Fireworks is the English version of Zantou Hanabi.
    • Natsuiro Answer ~The different story~ is one to the original Natsuiro Answer.
    • The album SEASIDE SOLILOQUIES also contains the acoustic rearrangement of DAYBREAK FRONTLINE.
  • Recurring Character: In particular, there seem to be three different girls who appear in most of his music videos starting from Mikansei Time Limiter.
    • A girl with long black/dark brown hair. Notable appearances include Mikansei Time Limiter, Earphones to SemishigureAme Kigoe Zankyou, and the album covers of both Mikansei Eight Beats and SEASIDE SOLILOQUIES.
    • A girl with short black/brown hair. Notable appearances include Kaisei, Henceforth and the album cover of Mishuroku OSC.
    • A girl with white hair. Notable appearances include Kuusou Ressha, Alice in Reitouko and Synchronizer.
  • Recurring Element: A lot of his songs feature elements related to Summer, nostalgia, or both.
  • Signature Device: He's among a number of producers tightly associated with IA.
  • Signature Song: Earphones to Semishigure, Asu no Yozora Shoukaihan and Ame Kigoe Zankyou, which was once collectively nicknamed "Aria on the Planetes trilogy" by some fans.
  • Something Completely Different:
    • In the song CITRUS, Orangestar also uses ONE, a CeVIO. ONE was made by the same parent company that released IA.
    • Shinshou Shinkirou is performed by Mearii, a human singer instead of a synth vocal. This would go on to become his only song with a human singer until Sunflower in 2020, four years later.
