The author has been better about that, either ignoring it completely or simply having it activate as a useless move.
With a bonus of adding variety instead of just abusing one strategy over and over again on Rocky when it's not an over-powered move, but not useless either.
Author Gender Confusion - insists that Tabitha is female and launches a Take That against the manga readers that say otherwise, despite the fact that the games and anime also have him as male (the female name is a translation error of sorts.)
Invincible Hero - Rocky. Recon even points out when Rocky is defeated in comic number 596 that it's the first time that this has ever happened. Yeah, 596. First time Rocky has ever lost.
It's a little bit better in that Brendan does actually use strategy in his fights and not just "Rocky's gonna win this for me", and his loss is based on Brendan's mistakes.
Also, #596 may seem extremely far into the story, but it isn't. In fact, Rocky's first loss was fairly early on into the journey, in a battle against the third gym leader, Wattson.
Jumping the Shark - Some fans think that the current Monty storyline involving his string of curbstompings coupled with unusually long intervals between updates may be the comic's shark-jumping moment.
And in the final part of the storyline, we discover Monty is an ALIEN!
Mind you, the fact that Brendan decided to punch Monty in the face instead of battling him was very well received indeed.
