Pride Comes Before the Fall

Pride Comes Before The Fall is a fanfiction written by Snafu the Great (the writer of Evangelion Gear). The plot follows Ranma being forsaken by his parents, the Tendous and the Chinese Amazons following a rematch with Herb which results in Ranma getting his curse locked in (thanks to outside interference from Ryouga and Mousse).

Suffice to say, Ranma does not take this very well. She snaps and proceeds to maim Genma, as well as brutally beating down the Amazons, Ryouga Hibiki, as well as Soun and Akane Tendou. Just as Ranma is about to kill Genma, she is blasted out of the compound by Ryouga's Shishi Hokoudan. Following this incident, Nodoka and Genma adopts Ryouga and shifts the engagement onto him, and the Amazons have a death sentence on Ranma's head.

However, Ranma has other plans for all involved. With the blessings of Happousai, he declares a blood feud on his former family, the Tendous, the Musk and Jokuetsuzoku. It is not pretty for all parties involved.

• Accidental Public Confession: In the alternate ending, it is revealed that Akane conspired with Ryouga and Mousse to screw Ranma over during his rematch with Herb. Because of this, it is Akane, not Ranma who gets disowned.
• And There Was Much Rejoicing: The town of Nerima throws a party after Nabiki is convicted and sent to prison.
• Anyone Can Die: And they certainly do.
• As the Good Book Says...: The title to the fanfic is a shortened version of Proverbs 16:18. The verse is seen in its entirety before the story begins.
• Ax Crazy: Soun when he finally snaps under pressure and tries to kill Akane.

• Break the Cutie: Kasumi gets dumped by Tofuu in the aftermath of Ranma being disowned.
• Break the Haughty: Good Lord, Nodoka and Nabiki. Especially Nabiki. What makes it even worse is that Ranma did not have a hand in Nabiki's downfall. Also, Cologne upon seeing Shampoo die.
• Burn, Baby, Burn: Ranma burns the Tendou home and dojo with matches, broken wood and sake while an Ax Crazy Soun is trying to kill a gender-bent Akane.
• Chunky Salsa: The end result of Cologne using the Breaking Point on an incoming RPG.
• Cruel Mercy: Ranma's method for dealing with Soun Tendou? Letting him watch as everything is taken from him. Very effective. His method of dealing with Genma also qualifies, as he locks in his curse via the Cat's Tongue...after he tortures him using the Cat-Fu training method (tossing him into a pit of starving cats repeatedly).
• Curb Stomp Battle: Ranma in the beginning, until Ryouga's Shishi Hokoudan blasts him out of Nerima, and the Chinese Army invading the Musks and Amazons.
• Dark Fic: Also Hate Fic, complete with Character Derailment, as noted by the author.
• Deathbed Confession: Inverted with Ranma and Mousse. After Ranma kills Mousse, she confesses that she was the one responsible for sending the Musk after the Joketsuzoku.
• Dirty Cop: Yuria Shiro, of the Tokyo Police Department. She is on the payroll of the Tsubaki Society.
• Disproportionate Retribution: Ranma is a master of this.
• Dropped a Bridge on Him: The Kunous – Tatewaki, Kodachi and Kunou-Kouchou (Principal Kunou). Ranma uses his connections to rob them of their wealth, which leads to Kodachi using her poisonous plants to commit suicide, as well as killing her father. Kunou survives, but is brain-dead.
• Drowning My Sorrows: Soun. It doesn't help.
• Eaten Alive: Ryouga Hibiki's fate... after Ranma locked in his curse with the Preservation Ladle, took him to a zoo, and tossed him into the Siberian Tiger Exhibit.
• Even Evil Has Standards: The Tsubaki Society does not participate in murder or drug trafficking. However, political corruption, gambling, and prostitution is okay.
• Family-Unfriendly Death: Holy shit. Shampoo gets her throat ripped out by a Musk warrior, Cologne gets blown to bits by an R.P.G., Ryouga gets turned into a pig and thrown into a Siberian Tiger exhibit in the zoo, Mousse gets mauled by Mint and Lime and later killed by Ranma.
• Fate Worse Than Death: Double-whammy for Genma, first he gets crippled and later, gets his cursed locked in. For Akane, she gets cursed with water from Nannichuan and get her cursed locked in.
  • Considering Nabiki's canon personality, becoming a Sex Slave is a fate worse than death for her.
• Gender Bender: Akane doesn't take being curse-locked as a man very well.

• It Got Worse: Boy, does it ever for all parties involved in screwing Ranma over.
• Killed Off for Real: Holy Crap.
• The Last Dance: More like a BOOM for Cologne.
• Make Sure He's Dead: Ranma does this to Mousse. After Mousse dies of fright, she uses a pressure point to cause his heart to explode. Dead to the world indeed.
• Mind Rape: Nabiki, via Psycho Serum. Besides it making her Gendo's willing sex slave, her mind and IQ degrades to that of a common prostitute.
• No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: Akane-kun doesn't stand a chance against Ranma.
• Obfuscating Stupidity: Ranma is a master of this, as Genma tells the others. Too bad it bites them all on the ass after they abandon him. Ranma himself confirms this to Nabiki after she is convicted.
• Past Victim Showcase: Played horrifically straight with what was left of Ryouga's bandanna after the tiger ate him.
• Pyrrhic Victory: The Chinese Amazons manage to force the invading Musk soldiers back, but not before losing a sizable number of warriors, as well as Shampoo.
• Rewarded as a Traitor Deserves: Cologne turns Mousse into Peking Duck in the alternate ending.
• Roaring Rampage of Revenge: Ranma's blood feud on the Tendous, the Saotomes and the Chinese Amazons.
• Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Kasumi is smart enough to get the hell out of town once it's clear that the Tendous are finished. Genma attempts this, but Ranma catches up to him soon afterward.
• Sex Slave: Nabiki Tendou's fate while imprisoned.
• Shout-Out: Two from Fallout 3. Plenty from other references. Two that stand out are from Fallout 3 where Nodoka and Akane rant like Jamie and the Mad Preacher respectively.
• There Is No Kill Like Overkill: Death or life, whichever Ranma left his victim with, he made sure they got it A LOT.
• Took a Level In Badass: Ranma, full stop.
• The Dog Bites Back: Ranma. And how.
• "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Ranma gives one to Nabiki before she gets sent to prison.
• Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny: Completely subverted. See No-Holds-Barred Beatdown and Curb Stomp Battle.
• The Undead: Ryouga ends up as a shibito. Also counts as a shout-out to Forbidden Siren.
• Watching Troy Burn: The Chinese Army raze the Joketsuzoku Village to the ground and destroy the Musk Dynasty with an airstrike. The destruction of the Tendou compound also qualifies.
• Yakuza: The Tsubaki Society. The second-in-command is Tofuu's Aunt. And she is not very happy with Nabiki trying to blackmail Tofuu in taking Kasumi back.
• You Will Be Spared: Ukyo. Because she expresses regret for what happened, Kasumi also gets off relatively lightly.
