  • Alternative Character Interpretation:
    • The most famous party is the Strange Klug ACI; from what we see in Fever 2, Klug does not like having his body rented out. However, fans will either say that the two are friendly rivals(mostly harming one another in comedic ways), the two hate each other, or the two don't mind one another. There's also small camp that turns Strange Klug into a demon that forces Klug to act evil, or is a psychopath.
    • Ekoro's ACI is simple. Was he a Complete Monster, a creature that loved Ringo, or a Yandere that loved Ringo?
    • Some will see Raffine/Raffina as a Jerk with a Heart of Gold. Same with Klug. Some people, however, see them as even worse than in canon.
  • Character Tiers: Maybe. They come from drop sets and chaining power in the fever/henshin modes. However, the matches seem to be skill > tier.
    • For drop sets, Arle is at least slightly better than everyone else due to her light, precise drop set (pairs only) so the pros can efficiently create their massive chains in whatever way they want to build it. Other drop sets are slightly to somewhat slower due to the higher odds of having an occasional puyo out of place and needing to work around it and generally more restricted to freestyling than patterns.
    • Bigger drop sets, however, can bring balance due to having more puyo on the field quickly and thus having material to harass the opponent with small chains or having an easier time getting into fever/henshin.
    • There are also chaining power tiers inside and outside fever/henshin, though those effects are subtle.
  • Complacent Gaming Syndrome Some people never play anything other than Tsu, and/or Fever, or to a lesser extent 7 (possibly playing only Arle or Carbuncle due to their drop set in fever/henshin). Good luck trying to find someone to play other modes like Excavation or even SUN, Yon, or 7.
  • Complete Monster: In the non-canonical PC-98 port of Madou Monogatari II, Schezo Wegey barely resembles the counterpart we've come to know and love in the rest of the IP. A powerful dark mage who seeks to become the most powerful mage in the world, he is introduced by creepily approaching Arle, and after she calls him a pervert, he knocks her out and takes her into his dark and lonesome dungeon, robbing her of most of her powers, and leaves her to die there. While Arle escapes, it's clear many others haven't, and have been fed to a Necromorph-ish monstrosity he created known as the Test Body after their powers were taken from them in Schezo's effort to become a god. Confronting Arle, even after decapitation he refuses to stop trying to kill her, ultimately transferring his consciousness into the Test Body that he created from his victims in a last-ditch effort to make sure Arle dies purely out of greed and spite.
  • Crowning Music of Awesome: Here.
  • Ear Worm: Puyo Puyo! Puyo Puyo! Puyo Puyo! Puyo Puyo! Pupupupu! Puyo! Puyo!
  • Evil Is Sexy: Satan and Doppelganger Arle are as close to this trope you can get in this series. There's also Rafisol, Unusual Ecolo, and a few others in the original Madou series.
  • Growing the Beard: Tsu due to offsetting and All-Clears, which levelled the playing field of the series. Subverted with Puyo Puyo~n, since it took its Madou Monogatari roots a little more seriously, but had relatively unbalanced gameplay.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: Madou Monogatari II becomes more painful in light of the outbreak of lethal rejection violence in 2019.
  • Launcher of a Thousand Ships: Lemres and Sig.
  • Les Yay: Witch in SUN. Justified because she was "sleepwalking"

Witch: I love you so very much!

Arle: Where are you touching me?! Stop!!

    • And Ms. Accord for Rulue in 15th Anniversary.
Cquote1

Ms. Accord: She's very sexy and quite wonderful.

  • Memetic Molester: Though, exclusive to the Western side of Puyo fandom, Risukuma's been called Pedobear for his attacks (I love you), and...
Cquote1

Risukuma: You can touch as much as you want...

  • More Popular Spinoff: Of Madou Monogatari, which you'll notice is still redlinked.
  • Most Annoying Sound: Harpy's voice, ESPECIALLY if you're playing the Sega Genesis versions.
    • Because Puyo Pop Fever taunts can be activated with the DS' microphone, playing the game in a moving vehicle with the sound on is NOT advised. "Youyouyouyouyouyou BETCHA!"
    • The English dub voices for Puyo Pop Fever... actually, the Japanese voices in that game were pretty bad too.
  • Viewer Gender Confusion: The Prince of the Ocean's human form looks like this.
