Tropedia

  • Before making a single edit, Tropedia EXPECTS our site policy and manual of style to be followed. Failure to do so may result in deletion of contributions and blocks of users who refuse to learn to do so. Our policies can be reviewed here.
  • All images MUST now have proper attribution, those who neglect to assign at least the "fair use" licensing to an image may have it deleted. All new pages should use the preloadable templates feature on the edit page to add the appropriate basic page markup. Pages that don't do this will be subject to deletion, with or without explanation.
  • All new trope pages will be made with the "Trope Workshop" found on the "Troper Tools" menu and worked on until they have at least three examples. The Trope workshop specific templates can then be removed and it will be regarded as a regular trope page after being moved to the Main namespace. THIS SHOULD BE WORKING NOW, REPORT ANY ISSUES TO Janna2000, SelfCloak or RRabbit42. DON'T MAKE PAGES MANUALLY UNLESS A TEMPLATE IS BROKEN, AND REPORT IT THAT IS THE CASE. PAGES WILL BE DELETED OTHERWISE IF THEY ARE MISSING BASIC MARKUP.

  • Award Snub: Many people feel that his Oscar losses for Inglourious Basterds and Pulp Fiction were this, as well as the fact that he wasn't nominated for any of his films between those two.
  • Crowning Music of Awesome: Pick a movie, any movie, and you can come up with at least five songs in that movie that make the moment they're used in a hundred times cooler. Now has his own page.
  • Hype Backlash: Some people really hate him and his movies as the result of the high levels of appraisal he and his movies have received, some of which Did Not Do the Research about one reoccurring complaint: plagiarism. It is true that Tarantino will gladly pay homage to or just flat-out steal from any other filmmaker. On the other hand, the number of people complaining about this is usually the inverse of the number of people who've seen the movies he cribs from.
  • Magnificent Bastard: All of his films feature at least one Magnificent Bastard, and Inglourious Basterds is an open homage and dedicated temple to the trope.
  • Memetic Badass: Characters in his movies tend to have rather infamous reputations. Examples include Marcellus Wallace, Winston "The Wolf" Wolfe and Jules Winnfield in Pulp Fiction, pretty much everyone in Kill Bill, and Lt. Aldo "The Apache" Raine, Sgt. Donnie "The Bear Jew" Donowitz, and Sgt. Hugo Stiglitz on our side and Col. Hans "The Jew Hunter" Landa and Fredrick Zoller on the Nazis' side, in Inglourious Basterds.
  • Weird Al Effect: to the point when it could be called Tarantino Effect. How many people had even heard of "Little Green Bag" before Reservoir Dogs?
