RTL Samstag Nacht (RTL Saturday Night) was a German comedy show that ran from 1993 to 1998 on RTL, once per week on saturday, late at night. Yes, they were kinda German remake of Saturday Night Live, why do you ask?

Their cast consisted of:

  • Wigald Boning, funny guy with glasses and really weird suits. As in, they were made from e.g. astroturf.
  • Olli Dittrich, his partner -- less showy, but considered funnier than Wigald by some fans.
  • Esther Schweins, the tall redhead, former actress.
  • Tanja Schumann: Former singer, dancer and actress
  • Stefan Jürgens, the go-to Straight Man (though not always, as he proves in "Kentucky schreit ficken" and "ex-brother Gottfried").
  • Mirco Nontschew, musician and the other wacky guy besides Wigald.

Later, they were also joined by Tommy Krappweis of Bernd das Brot fame and, towards the end, Mark Weigel (who later changed to Switch!).

And of course they also had guest stars -- almost all important German comedians, but sometimes also foreign guests like Mel Brooks or the Erste Allgemeine Verunsicherung.

Recurring sketches:[]

  • Wigald Boning and Olli Dittrich as their band "Die Doofen"
  • Zwei Stühle -- Eine Meinung (Two chairs -- one opinion): Wigald Boning interviewing prominent people (Boris Becker, Franz Beckenbauer, Michael Jackson), historical persons (like Adolf Hitler), fictional ones (Mr. Clean, or original ones like The Pimp Mike Hansen) -- you probably guessed it already, they all weren't real, but Olli Dittrich in disguise.
  • Samstag-Nacht-News: Stefan Jürgens (later Mark Weigel) and Esther Schweins parodying news shows. Had several sub-sketches, like:
    • Spocht: Olli Dittrich sitting on an oversized football and telling the sports news, with a Hurricane of Puns.
    • Wetter, Wetter, Wetter: Mirco Nontschew doing a weather report
    • Karl Ranseier is dead!
  • Wigalds Welt: Wigald Boning outside the studio doing "reports".
  • Märchen - man: Mirco Nontschew as a very wacky pirate making allusions.
  • Far Out!: Mirco Nontschew and Tommy Krappweis as "Splatter" and "Pain", two fans of extreme trends from U!S!A!.
  • Schreinemakers ihre Schwester live: Tanja Schumann parodying then-popular showmaster Margarethe Schreinemakers (think Oprah as a white German woman)
  • Bruder Gottfried und die Singenden Gebetsbeulen Fresenia und Martha: A priest making music and two nuns singing songs.
  • Szenen einer Ehe (Scenes from a marriage) with Schumann and Jürgens (later Dittrich)
  • Kentucky schreit ficken: Set in a fastfood restaurant, natch. Stefan Jürgens as the manager, Tanja Schumann as a little employee and Olli Dittrich as a customer. All of them talk in spoonerisms. The customer has to answer a tricky question to win something.
  • Kristiane Kacker: Esther Schweins parodying then-MTV mod Kristiane Backer.
  • A Derrick parody.
