• Big Bad: The Bakers refer to some unseen "her" that apparently gave them the "gift", that is, turned them into the monsters who they are now. Said monster is eventually revealed to be a human-like biological weapon called EV-001, that was hiding from Ethan's view as the Bakers' grandma.
• Big Damn Heroes: Ethan requests assistance for Zoe after being forced to leave her behind. However, while Blue Umbrella shows up, it’s actually Zoe’s UNCLE who saves the day.
• Bond Villain Stupidity: Justified. Eveline could have easily killed Ethan, but she grows so obsessed with the idea of having a family that she tries to convince him over and over to give in to her despite him going around destroying her small territory and servants until she has no other option except kill him in self-defence before he puts an end to her.
• The Cavalry Arrives Late: By the time Chris and the Blue Umbrella shows up, Ethan had done ninety-nine percent of their job, and the only thing Chris does is give Ethan a weapon to deliver the final blow on Eveline.
• Distressed Damsel; Both Mia and Zoe are being held by the Bakers. In Zoe's case, she actually IS one of the Bakers, she is just more resistant to the infection than the Molded and her parents.
• The Dog Was the Mastermind: Eveline was hiding the whole time from Ethan's view as "grandma".
• Expy: The plot is similar to that of Orphan...minus people becoming superhuman mutants.
• From Nobody to Nightmare: Lucas Baker was originally a juvenile delinquent who was the bad seed of his family. But once Eveline infected his family, he became a sadistic torturer and murderer. Of course, before then it was implied he locked a bully to starve to death in his attic, though the only person who confirms this is himself, and there is way too many corpses around the Bakers' property for anyone to know without proper examination if one is of this supposed victim.
• Game Face: When Mia manifests her infection, her face turns, well, zombie-like.
• Genre Blind: By the time he sees the rotten food on the Bakers' kitchen, Ethan should have already run far away from the building, because obviously nothing or something very bad is what he should expect to find if he continued to explore these rooms. But Love Makes You Dumb... The Swamp Gators end up doing the same thing and they end up being killed.
• Implacable Man: Jack Baker shrug off any injuries in order to kill Ethan, including being burned alive as a result of a car he intentionally crashes in order of killing Ethan. The "End of Zoe" DLC reveals not even being given the cure and seemingly disintegrating killed him, and he continued to live along as the "Swamp Man".
• My God, What Have I Done?: Subverted with Lucas Baker in Not A Hero DLC. He states that he had done horrible things, as well as torture and murder the men that were sent after him...but then he states that he enjoyed every second of it.
• Knife Nut: Mia attacks Ethan with a knife early in the game. She eventually switches to a chainsaw.
• Non-Action Guy: Unlike his father and mother, Lucas doesn't have or is completely unwilling to use his powers; instead, he tries to kill Ethan using traps.
• Not Quite Dead: Jack Baker manages to survive being injected by the antidote to Eveline's infection, becoming the Swamp Thing.
• One-Winged Angel: Eveline becomes a huge monster in the final battle with Ethan.
• Personality Powers: Though it's ambiguous whether she was fond of bugs before she was infected by Eveline, Marguerite has the ability to control bugs and loves insects.
• Split Personality: Thanks to being infected, Mia's personality has divided between her normal self and basically an animal-like, murderous monster.
• Split Personality Makeover: Mia looks like a traditional zombie when, well, her zombie self manifests.
• Super Strength: The molded can easily throw people bigger than them for a long distance(Ethan probably don't flies more when he first gets thrown because he hit an wall).
• Token Evil Teammate: It's revealed later on that Lucas had freed himself of Eveline's control for already a long time; he is willingly evil.
• Torture Technician: Unlike Jack and Marguerite, who would typically kill a victim or make them eat Marguerite’s cooking so that they would become a Molded, Lucas prefers to torture his victims before killing them.
• Unreliable Narrator: It's unclear if Lucas genuinely killed a boy when he was younger or it was a murderous fantasy.
