- Alternate Character Interpretation: In the 1994 movie, Ferguson probably feels unappreciated with his service, as shown when Cadbury threatens him for the way he grabbed Richie. Hence why Ferguson is willing to serve Van Dough.
- Canon Sue: Richie is filthy rich, he has all the best people working for him, and he's incredibly nice.
- And in the 1994 film, the Rich family are decent employers who pay well and refuse to fire anyone... well, at the end of the movie they make an exception...
- Complete Monster: Both villains in the movie, since they are both more than willing to kill Richie and his friends to achieve their ends, not to mention Richie's parents. Ferguson was probably the truest Complete Monster, considering the sadistic glee he got out of trying to send 5 kids to their deaths.
- Epileptic Trees: Bart and Lisa Simpson postulate that Casper is the ghost of Richie Rich, based on their similar appearances; Lisa thinks Richie committed suicide when he realized how hollow the pursuit of money is.
- Family-Unfriendly Violence: For a family movie, having Van Dough shoot a 12-year-old multiple times in the chest was pretty intense - even if he was wearing a Bulletproof Vest.
- Large Ham: Regina Rich.
- Professor Keenbean as well.
- Mondegreen: "MAYAN VENGEANCE!!"
- Nightmare Fuel: The molecular reorganizer in the movie.
- Pragmatic Adaptation: To deal with the property's deficit in female protagonists, the Hanna-Barbera series played up Irona as not only the Richs' Robot Maid, but as Richie's bodyguard with a myriad of functions to use in his protection.
- Robo Ship: Irona seems awfully attached to Richie.
- Tear Jerker: From the movie when Richie hears that his parents plane has gone down. He uses the 'Dad Link' to try and find his father. Nothing. He tries it again with boosted power and the computer eventually informs him 'Dad not found'. Over and over again.
- Also, when he looks at his window to see his employees leaving, because Van Dough fired them, after Cadbury was arrested.
- Toy Ship: Richie and Gloria
- Uncanny Valley: The 'Dad Link' -from the movie- is basically a computer with a virtual face that resembles Professor Keenbean.
- The Woobie: Despite being the "Richest Kid in the World", Richie is unhappy with his life. Mostly because he has no real friends. His classmates in school are always too busy and find Richie odd for wanting to "hang out" like "normal kids". He tried to make friends with regular kids, but at first they tell him he doesn't "belong".
