Rockman World V is a handheld game for the Rockman series that was released in the 22nd of July, in 1994. It takes the series in a different direction, with a new set of bosses.

Tropes used in Rockman World V include:

  • A Load of Bull: More like "a load of Minotaur," but Uranus is essentially an anthropomorphic bull.
  • After Boss Recovery: The first nine stages allow this, but afterwards, the player no longer regains weapon energy and health after they defeat a boss. This trait effectively makes the entire trek through the Wily Star a Marathon Level.
  • Altum Videtur: Terra is named after the Latin term for the ground, "terra," which can also be a name for the Earth itself if capitalised.
  • Anti-Air: Bubble Bombs curve upward, hence their reputation for being good against airborne enemies and bad against grounded enemies. Quite appropriately, Jupiter is weak to this weapon.
  • Arm Cannon: Terra, Venus, Mars (who has two), Jupiter, and Sungod have Busters to fire their weapons with, although Terra doesn't have this all the time.
  • Beast Man: More like "Beast Robot." Venus is a Stardroid who is modelled after a crab, Jupiter is modelled after a bird, Uranus is modelled after a bull (although he looks more like a Minotaur), Neptune is modelled after a fish, and Pluto is modelled after a cat.
  • Be the Ball: Mercury can make his body a ball for some of his attacks.
  • Bittersweet Ending: While Rock saves the day and Doctor Wily has his plans foiled, the ending carries an air of sadness, particularly about the fact that Sungod had to throw his own life away to ensure that man and machine can live in peace.
  • Boss Arena Idiocy:
    • If Terra was fought in a battlefield where there were no boulders to toss around with the Deep Digger, which he is weak to, he would be much harder!
    • Uranus is also affected by this somewhat due to his battlefield having blocks that you can dig up to create an abyss that Rock can make him fall into. This strategy is challenging and cannot be used in Uranus' original fight, but his Wily Star rematch makes this possible as you have his Deep Digger.
  • Boss-Only Level: Terra has no Mook enemies in his stage.
  • Boss Rush: Two, actually. In the second Wily Star stage (if you count either Terra's stage or the shooter segment as the first or merge them into one level; third if you count both as separate Wily Star stages; first if you count neither), Rock gets a rematch against the Rockman Killers from World IV. In the very next stage, Rock will come across the traditional Boss Rush.
  • Bubble Gun: Venus uses this as her Special Weapon, the Bubble Bomb, which she can use to create exploding bubbles. Rock gets this upon defeating her.
  • Cats Are Mean: One of the Stardroids, Pluto, is felinoid in design, and he's a boss.
  • Cephalothorax: Venus, a crab-esque robot.
  • Demoted to Extra: Roll makes her Game Boy debut here, but vanishes just as quickly as she appeared, having a less prominent role in this game than each Classic game.
  • Disc One Final Boss: This game builds Terra, who is the Stardroids' leader, to be the main villain, but after Rock takes him out, he is later forced to dismiss Terra as the main villain. Why? The Wily Star appears and Rock this time properly learns that Wily is all behind this.
  • Dishing Out Dirt: Uranus can throw stone blocks during his battle. With Uranus' weapon, the Deep Digger, Rock can uproot stone squares and throw them.
  • Earth-Shattering Kaboom/Heroic Sacrifice/Load-Bearing Boss: Sungod destroys the Wily Star after his defeat by exploding, having been moved by Rock's kindness.
  • Eleventh-Hour Superpower: After he defeats Terra, Rock gets the Spark Chaser, a powerful weapon that fires an electric bolt that targets enemies, flying in a straight line for some distance, stopping for a split second, and then shooting off towards the enemy again. However, if he dies in the Wily Star, Rock will lose the weapon, as you cannot save after Rock defeats Terra and thus the furthest into the game that he can be booted back to is when Terra's stage is open.
  • Eyes Do Not Belong There: Venus and Jupiter have eyes in their mouths. Real crabs and birds do not.
  • Feathered Fiend: Jupiter is an avian Stardroid, being basically an anthropomorphic bird robot with arms and a jetpack instead of wings.
  • Fish People: Neptune is a Stardroid who was designed after a fish, and is anthropomorphic. Quite ironically, he is said to hate fishing.
  • Gender Blender Name: Despite his name being a feminine noun, Terra is a guy through and through.
  • Grandfather Clause: While what the Stardroid Pluto was named after is no longer considered a planet (by many, at least), he still remains by the Stardroids to this day and carries the same serial number.
  • Gravity Screw:
    • Jupiter and Saturn have areas in their stages that have half the standard gravity (the outer areas in the former's stage and areas where arrows are pointing up in the latter's stage). Saturn also has certain areas in his stage where the gravity is doubled, marked by arrows pointing down.
    • Sungod has his arena in a low-gravity region. Rock can use this weak gravity to his advantage during the battle.
  • Hijacked by Ganon: Wily hijacks the plot with his Death Star-esque space fortress after Rock defeats Terra.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Uranus can fall into a pit that Rock can dig up in the Wily Star rematch.
  • Homing Projectile: The Spark Chasers combine this with Shock and Awe. Spark Chasers dash a short distance towards their target, stop for a split second, and fly at the target a second time.
  • Human Aliens: Sungod implies in his dialogue that human-like aliens waged war using machines. Mercury (in his default form), Saturn, Terra, and Sungod himself look the part as well.
  • Jetpack Joyride: Jupiter uses a jetpack during his fight.
  • Lean and Mean: Mercury is a villain and he is not all that obese... unless he shapeshifts into a fatter form.
  • Life Drain: When Mercury falls, Rock gets his hands on the Snatch Buster, which helps him farm life energy by shooting enemies with star-like bullets at them. Pluto is also weak to the weapon, which takes away from his energy.
  • Logical Weakness:
    • Venus' hard shell can easily be punctured by the Photon Missile, which is essentially a rocket-propelled spear.
    • Mars has lots of metal armour, so the Salt Water is a good choice for his weakness.
    • Jupiter uses lightning for his weaponry, so the Bubble Bomb is a good choice for his weakness as water makes a deadly combination with electricity. Plus, it goes up, whilst the Salt Water goes down, making the latter a worse choice for Jupiter's weakness.
    • Saturn needs electrical energy to use his Black Hole skill, and the Electric Shock can overload that.
    • Uranus zig-zags this due to the fact that his weakness references how bullfighters can fake out bulls, but the Break Dash uses purple flames, and a bull should not be weak to fire.
    • Neptune is another zig-zagging case. His main weakness is the electric Spark Chaser, but the equally electric Electric Shock just doesn't cut it despite water conducting electricity.
    • Pluto needs energy for his Break Dash power, so the Snatch Buster's Life Drain shots can steal some power from him.
    • Terra's weakness, the Deep Digger, which like the Salt Water would be an awful choice for Jupiter's weakness due to the latter's ability to fly, is a reference to how electricity cannot pass through stone very well. Despite this, Terra can teleport around during his fight, although he doesn't do it much.
  • Made a Slave: When Terra first appears, he threatens to enslave Rock, who manages to escape although Terra critically wounded him.
  • Making a Splash: Neptune uses the Salt Water for his weapon. This water is also spiked with chemicals that can erode Mars' armour.
  • No OSHA Compliance: Neptune, would it kill you to keep that submarine in which you lurk in top condition? There are leaky pipes that release steam, for crying out loud!
  • No Sell: Rock gets his butt handed to him at the start of the game when Terra deflects Rock's charged shot and then scores a hit with his Spark Chaser. Rock cannot believe his loss.
Cquote1
What!? My Mega Buster has no effect on him!
—Rock is shocked over his loss to Terra.
Cquote2
  • Playing With Fire: When Pluto and/or Rockman uses the Break Dash, they get coated in purple flames. Pluto can also throw fireballs when clinging to the walls.
  • Point of No Return: Once Terra gets handed his butt, Rock is forced to invade the Wily Star, with no chance to restock on resources.
  • Recursive Ammo: The Salt Water
  • Shock and Awe: Jupiter, an avian Stardroid, can fire powerful thunderbolts from his buster. This becomes the Electric Shock when Rock copies Jupiter's weaponry. Terra also uses a homing electrical bolt (Spark Chasers) for his weapon.
  • Shout-Out: The Wily Star is a reference to the Death Star from Star Wars.
  • Space Zone: Jupiter makes his lair here. The floor has slippery ice there, too.
  • Slippy-Slidey Ice World: Certain outdoor sections of Jupiter's level.
  • The Worf Effect: Terra ends up on both ends. He hands Rock's butt to him at the very beginning, but gets his own butt handed to him once Rock tears his way through the other Stardroids.
  • Theme Naming: Terra averts this although his design screams "Earth." The other Stardroids and Sungod take their names from the planets of the Solar System.
  • Throw Down the Bomblet: More like "Throw UP the Bomblet," but Bubble Bombs float upwards, exploding on whatever gets in their way.
  • Villain Teleportation: One action that Terra can do during his fight has him warp around his arena. Fortunately, he doesn't use it much.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: Mercury is a Stardroid who can shapeshift, and he can take on the form of a ball to attack. Tango can also turn into something similar to the Grinders from Super Mario World to attack his enemies.
  • Wall Crawl: In combat, Pluto can cling to walls and launch fireballs from there.
  • Weapons That Suck: The Black Hole. With this weapon, Rock can summon vortices over his head to draw his enemies in. Saturn uses this as his weapon.
