The manga:

• Crowning Moment of Awesome: Man oh man, this show has a CAULDRON of them.
  • Kana gets several of these, namely when she gets a Yakuman hand earlier than she expected and passes it up solely because it interferes with her gameplan of getting 30 exhaustive draws in a row and one direct yakuman in order to win. And she seriously believes she can do it.
• Crowning Moment of Funny: After the 4th tournament round "You really didn't stand out much".
• Crowning Music of Awesome: Touka's character song.
• Ear Worm: The opening themes. Some people may refer it with the WAAAI WAAAAAI or TENPAI SOKURI KAIKAN TSUCHARAKA song.
• Ensemble Darkhorse: Plenty to go around. Momo, Hisa, Yuuki,
  • Despite having only two appearances in both the Anime & Manga, with only an onomatopoeia to her credit in terms of dialogue so far, Awai became so ridiculously popular with the fanbase that she actually gained a berth in Sai Moe 2010.
  • Kamigaki was only in the pre-prefecture round and, to be fair, had none of Awai's design that warrant anything, and frankly was not that popular with Western fans, but she did manage to get into Sai Moe 2009.
• Epileptic Trees: Some fans had a field day on theorizing the characters' sexualities (gay, bi, straight) and how they're born (natural, IPS cells) after the manga's author confirms it on a Twitter post.
• Fridge Brilliance: Momo's childish speech isn't her trying to be cutesy; rather, her speech never matured because she stopped communicating when she was a child.
• Launcher of a Thousand Ships: Hisa. See the Memetic Sex Goddess entry.
  • Nodoka, as per Saki Achiga-hen. She's pairable with Yuuki, Saki, Touka, Shizuno, and Kuro. Having massive boobs helps.
• Les Yay: Has it's own page
• Memetic Molester: Several, among them Nodoka, Touka, and Sukoya (The latter especially so thanks to several manga edits.)
  • On Japan's 2chan, Sumire has this status..
• Memetic Mutation: You're gonna get tanoshii'ed.
  • IT'S TERU TIME!
  • There are also jokes that the series is set in an alternate universe where not only is mahjong extremely popular, but also panties were never invented.
• Memetic Sex Goddess: In fandom, Hisa is universally regarded as a Pimp who can win the affections of her opponents with relative ease, given her stunningly good looks and incredibly charming demeanor. (Given her Les Yay moments with Mako, Mihoko, Yumi, and Haru. Heck, even NODOKA has had a moment with her.
  • It should be noted that her seiyuu is Itou Shizuka, who is considered THE Yuri Pimp.
• Moe
• Offscreen Moment of Awesome - In the Nationals, Mako completely wiping the floor with her opponents in her Quarter-Final match is basically skipped after The Glasses Come Off.
• The Woobie: Saki qualifies, given how frail and delicate she is. She really shines, however, in any scene regarding her older sister (Or whenever she gets lost.)
  • Momo is in this ballpark as well. She's gotten so used to being ignored that she's invisible because of it, but all she wants is one person to notice her. D'awww...
• Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds: Koromo becomes this once she plays in the Tournament.
  • Given her vow before the Nationals begin in the manga (Along with a few other moments), Saki can also be considered this.
