  • Cargo Ship: Doofy and the Vacuum Cleaner in the first one, and Ray and the Clown Doll in the second.
  • Contested Sequel: Different fans can easily find any given movie the worst or the best. Generally speaking, the biggest fan divide is between those who prefer the Wayans films (the first two) and those who prefer the Zuckers (the latter two).
  • Crosses the Line Twice:
    • A girl living with her drug-dealing father? Not funny. Having them talk about how cutting crack with baking powder will have people growing muffins out of their noses? Funny.
    • Cindy and Bobby's sex scene. The only virginity loss to include crunched balls, bats flying out of the vagina, pubic hair that needs to be trimmed with a bushwhacker, and getting plastered to the ceiling by a geyser of cum.
    • A white guy saying the n-word usually won't score many laughs, but when said white guy is a priest and he's singing Mystikal's "Shake Your Ass" with a room full of middle-aged upper-class white yuppies, it's a riot!
    • In the third movie, the President and his bodyguard succumb to paranoia and beat up a roomful of "aliens disguised as humans," a.k.a. handicapped people. And if that wasn't enough, the second line is definitely crossed when the bodyguard opens up an exit... by grabbing a shotgun and blasting through a giant picture of Mother Teresa.
    • Brenda getting stabbed to death in a movie theater? Brutal. Brenda getting repeatedly stabbed by the patrons because she wouldn't shut up, her collapsing to the ground, with everyone applauding? Comedic gold!
    • The scene in the third film of a policewoman trying to tell a man his wife is going to die. The part where he goes "She broke her wiener?". (The policewoman symbolized the wife being split in half by breaking a hot dog in too, but the man was Literal-Minded. Then he pulls out a donut with a hot dog and starts to ask if he can still bang his wife's lower half.)
    • A parrot saying dirty words? Pretty funny. The parrot getting into a smacktalk argument with Shorty? Hysterical!
    • Hanson getting aroused while dressing the turkey by licking it? Pure Squick. Hanson mounting the bird, humping it, having The Immodest Orgasm, and then serving it? Pure hilarity.
    • Getting dragged under a bed by an demonic clown doll? Standard horror movie schtick. Being tough enough to beat the shit out of the doll? Badass. Lassoing the fleeing doll with one's six-foot-long prehensile Gag Penis and sodomizing it to death? That's this trope.
    • Leslie Nielsen is probably the only person to make racist jokes in front of the entire UN Assembly in the fourth movie so insanely hilarious.
    • Greg beating up Cindy while her friends and boyfriend do nothing? Not funny. Finishing her off with an elbow drop after telling the killer to bring it on? Hilarious.
    • A Pedophile Priest having sex with an underage girl? Horrible. Said girl being a possessed demon child a la The Exorcist who's screaming "Fuck me!"? Somehow amusing.
    • Dr. Phil having to saw off his own foot? Rather painful. Dr. Phil realizing he sawed off the wrong foot, dooming both him and Shaq anyway? Black Comedy at its finest.
    • Cody having his penis cut in half at birth. Sounds painful. It being sewn back on and that's why he pees up. Funny. His aunt who adopted him after his mother's death prioritizing Tivo over fixing it. Rolling on the floor hilarious.
  • Ensemble Darkhorse:
    • Shorty in the first two movies.
    • CJ and Mahalik in the third and fourth movies.
    • Doofy for being a surprisingly good twist villain who managed to deflect suspicion by pretending to be mentally challenged.
  • Hollywood Homely: Very much played for laughs with Cindy Campbell who is played by the obviously attractive Anna Faris yet is constantly criticized over her appearance (this joke is dropped in the Zucker films which portray Cindy as more of a Brainless Beauty type.)
  • Older Than They Think: What this movie does in two hours, Shasta McNasty did in a 30 minute Halloween Special: "I Know What You Did To My Feathers"
  • Retroactive Recognition: No wonder Cindy's stepson in movie 3 is such a Creepy Child... it's Nevel!
  • Shallow Parody: Increasingly so as the series progressed. The first film took flack for how it was a parody of a franchise that were already parodies.
  • Shocking Swerve: Parodied at the end of the first movie, where the killer is revealed to be Doofy, who has already got away and is shown taking off his disguise, and is actually a character not seen or referenced anywhere else in the movie. He is then picked up by his girlfriend and drives off into the sunset.
  • Weird Al Effect:
    • $157 million worth of tickets were sold at the US box office to see Scary Movie, compared with $103 million for Scream). But this was only at the time; which has been seen more more people since release is completely untrackable, and both films retain large fandoms.
    • The basketball scene from the second movie is far more memorable than the original Nike commercial that inspired it.
    • Many people may be more familiar with Brenda's movie theater death in Scary Movie than Maureen's movie theater death in Scream 2, despite the latter inspiring the former. Aside from how over-the-top funny (and much more deserving) the later scene was, a good reason may be because Regina Hall was one of the film's protagonists unlike Jada Pinkett's Advertised Extra.
