The twelfth entry in the DC Extended Universe, Shazam! Fury of the Gods is the sequel to Shazam.

Opening three years after the original, the film sees the Shazam family go up against the Daughters of Atlas, as Billy goes through some existential angst about the future.

Tropes used in Shazam! Fury of the Gods include:
  • Aborted Arc: A Sequel Hook is Wonder Woman investigating if other Olympians survived Ares' genocide. But with James Gunn rebooting the DC films, this is unlikely to come to pass.
  • Ascended Extra: Unlike Hespera and Anthea, Kalypso is actually from the comics. However, she only showed up in an issue of Rip Hunter, and then in an issue of Superman. Here's, she's the Big Bad.
  • Canon Foreigner: While DC used several Olympians in their books, the Daughters of Atlas for the most part never showed up in the comics.
  • Celebrity Paradox: Billy mentions The Fast and the Furious franchise. A franchise which shares many actors with the DCEU. Including Helen Mirren who plays Hespera, sitting across the table from Billy.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Hespera has a few, such as avoiding killing when she can and simply wanting to restore their home in the quickest, least painful, way possible. At no point did she ever want to commit genocide against humanity to restore the God Realm.
  • Happy Ending Override: Discussed and downplayed. Just because Billy had lunch with two superheroes in the last film, that doesn't mean anyone thinks he's cool.
  • In Love with the Mark: Without knowing that Freddy was a target, Anthea developed feelings for him.
  • Internal Reveal:
    • The family learns that Billy's superhero name is "Shazam".
    • Victor and Rosa learn that their kids are superheroes.
  • Mayfly-December Romance: Freddy is seventeen years old. Anthea is over six thousand. The family is a bit weirded out but decides not to push too much.
  • Nice, Mean and In-Between: Anthea, Kalypso and Hespera respectively.
  • Rogues Gallery Transplant: Despite being powered by the Olympians, the ones who faces off against Olympians is usually Wonder Woman, not Shazam.
  • Take That: In a bit of Self-Deprecation at DC's expense, Billy is confused by the distinction between the Justice Society and the Justice League. He states that if the society wants to stand out, they should come up with a cooler name, like "The Avengers Society".
  • There Is Another: Turns out the Olympians may be Not So Extinct as Atlas' daughters survived Ares' attack.
  • Unexplained Recovery: Turns out the Wizard survived giving Billy his powers.
