- Crowning Moment of Heartwarming - Toward the end of the anime, when Ayumi gives Shion a small present. The entire scene is incredibly overloaded with Squee and Moe. It's a wonder the TV didn't just explode from reaching critical mass of cute.

- Nightmare Fuel - The way Studio DEEN animated Kamizono confirming his suspicions that Ayumi is not female. Damn.
- Forgot the trope name - Hani-meijin killing Shion's parents to make Shion a good Shogi player is the worst motive (i.e. bad writing) for killing ever. It may have very well traumatize Shion into ever playing Shogi again.
