Resineandsimone

Resine de Poisson and Simone D'Arc, the classic Yuri girls

Resine de Poisson is a shy, unassuming French schoolgirl whose parents died in an accident; now she must live with her aunt, but since the Poissons were quite rich, she believes her to be a greedy woman only interested in the money that she'll gain from taking care of her. To avert this, Resine takes a fateful decision: to go to the same Boarding School that her late mother attended and graduated from, despite the aunt saying that she's too weak and sensitive to withstand the life there.

Effectively, Resine finds it hard to adapt herself to the school, and especially because of her roommate: Simone D'Arc, the beautiful and rebellious daughter of a very popular actress. Moody, blunt and merciless, Simone does NOT make things easier for Resine since she runs off to meet with boys, mocks and teases Resine, etc. Still, as time passes the two start to slowly warm up to each other, even when Resine has difficulties to truly put her finger on what she feels for Simone.

The first Girls Love manga, Shiroi Heya no Futari (白い部屋のふたり, Our White Room) was written by Ryoko Yamagishi, one of the Year 24 Group (a collective of female manga artists who revolutionized Shojo manga), during The Seventies, and is the source of many common Girls Love tropes.

Shiroi Heya no Futari provides examples of:
  • The Ace: Simone seems to be good at near anything school-related, especially tennis. Considering her severe problems, however, she's actually a Broken Ace.
  • Aloof Dark-Haired Girl: Simone.
  • Anguished Declaration of Love: From Simone, to Resine
  • Attractive Bent Gender: Simone is dressed up as a guy? HOOOOOOOOT!!!
  • The Big Damn Kiss: Two, between Simone and Resine. The first one comes when Resine comforts Simone as much as she can after her fight with her mother; the second is the one from Romeo and Juliet play, which is quite the turn in the girls' relationship.
  • Boarding School
  • Break the Cutie: Simone came pre-broken, Resine gets shattered.
  • Broken Bird: Simone is extremely Hot-Blooded and passionate, but also VERY shattered because her mom neglects her and she doesn't even know her dad's identity.
  • Bury Your Gays: Simone is bisexual, and in the end she gets stabbed to death by a jealous ex-boyfriend.
  • Calling the Old Woman Out: Simone fiercely calls Eleonora out on how she puts her career and especially her lovers over her.
  • Casanova: Simone is a boy-magnet.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: Louise
  • Cry Cute: Simone, holy shit.
  • Deceased Parents Are the Best: Resine is an orphan with very rosy memories of her parents. Understandable, she has juuuuust lost them and they WERE very good to her.
  • Dead Man Writing: Simone wrote a letter for Resine before dying, about how much she loves her and how she must die for her.
  • Downer Ending: The girls break off their bond and Resine leaves the school, then falls severely ill. Some time later, she learns that Simon was killed by a Yandere ex-boyfriend and decides to never ever fall in love again.
  • Enter Stage Window: Simone's favored method of entering and exiting her dorm room.
  • Hair Contrast Duo: Innocent blonde Resine and brooding, rebellious dark-haired Simone
  • Hair Decorations: Resine wears a girlish hair-bow.
  • The First Cut Is the Deepest: After Simone dies, Resine vows to never love another as long as she lives. In her own words, "Simone, my love! Since I cannot die, I will bear a stone heart for the rest of my life as a recompense"
  • Gayngst: Resine, especially when Louise spreads rumors about ehr and Simone's lesbianism.
  • Get It Over With - Strike Me Down with All of Your Hatred: Renaud, who was there when Simone was struck dead by Marcel, tells Resine that she was drunk and the two had a vicious verbal fight, and almost at the end she repeteadly insulted him and dared him to kill her -- until he did, by stabbing her to death.
  • Good Smoking, Evil Smoking: Simone smokes cigarettes, highlighting her rebellious nature.
  • Hair of Gold: Resine
  • Hime Cut: Simone
  • It Meant Something to Me: When Simone confesses to Resine that their Romeo and Juliet kiss wasn't just acting.
  • Look Both Ways: The Poissons were ran over by a car.
  • Love Hurts: And how!
  • Malicious Slander: Simone and Resine play Romeo and Juliet in a school play. Louise, a girl who wanted to be Romeo but wasn't chosen, starts using this tactic against Simone as revenge. . .
  • Matchmaker Crush: Simone, despite her feelings for Resine, decides to get her a boyfriend to ease her mind after the rumors incident. She starts going out with a boy named Renaud, trying to convince herself that she likes him better than Simone. . .
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Resine's reaction to finding out about Simone's murder SCREAMS this, as she heavily berates herself for "running away from you, who put your life on the line for love".
  • Naive Newcomer: Resine
  • New Transfer Student: Resine begins as such
  • One-Gender School
  • Parental Neglect: Simone's mother Eleonora is a famous actress who spares little time or attention for her daughter, leaving her all but abandoned in the school while she dates around. Lampshaded by Resine, who thinks that her parents raised her as well as they could and thinks she was lucky compared to Simone.
  • Parent with New Paramour: One of the reasons why Simone does NOT get along with Eleonora is that not only she has a much younger boyfriend, buit has dated so many men in her life that Simone even claims that she doesn't know which of Eleonora's old lovers is her birth father.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Simone gives one to Resine during a huge fight, calling her a coward who doesn't want to be ever hurt and saying that she won't give her heart to "a stone statue" like her.
  • Romantic Runner-Up: Renaud is not a bad guy, it's just that... well, Simone is there.
  • School Play: Romeo and Juliet, with Simone and Resine playing the leads.
  • Schoolgirl Lesbians
  • Slap Slap Kiss: Resine and Simone.
  • Star-Crossed Lovers: Again, Resine and Simone
  • Stock Shoujo Bullying Tactics: The "rumors" tactic is used against Resine and especially against Simone.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: Simone is a younger and black-haired version of her Hot Mom, Eleonora Laurel.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: Simone is a blunt Tomboy, whiole Resine is a sensitive Girly Girl.
  • Trope Codifier: Most of the stereotypical Girls Love tropes associated with the genre can be traced back to this manga.
  • Yandere: Simone's on-an-off boyfriend Marcel... alias her killer.
