- Reb Brown is king of this trope, particularly in Strike Commando (a low-budget Rambo II ripoff) and Robowar (a low-budget Predator ripoff).
- Picard did this when gunning down the Borg in Star Trek First Contact.
- O'Connell did this when trying to shoot at the wall of sand in The Mummy Trilogy.
- Jack Black does it in the poster for Tropic Thunder.
- UHF, during in the Rambo II parody.
- Point Break has the infamous scene where a character shoots rapidly into the air while screaming. It was later parodied by Hot Fuzz.

- Gwen Cooper does this in the Doctor Who series 4 as she and Ianto empty G36C's into a Dalek which is slightly anti climatic as they are protected by a time lock.
Manga and Anime[]
- Teana Lanster of Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha Striker S did this during the time when she was recklessly shooting down the Mecha-Mooks attacking Hotel Augusta and almost shot her own teammate.
- During the Cell Saga, the army attacks Cell before the tournament stops all at once. One of the focus shots was off one of the soldiers on the ground. Guess what he was doing during the open fire free-for-all.
Video Games[]
- As does Big Boss in Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater, and Solid Snake in Metal Gear Solid 4 Guns of the Patriots, although both restrict this to when using the game's light machine guns.
- Pictured above, The Heavy from Team Fortress 2 loves to do this. When he's not telling you to CRY SOME MORE!, that is.
- Firing the M60 in the Half-Life Game Mod Half-Life 2: Jaykin Bacon Source makes the player start yelling.
- Sgt. Whittaker does this towards the end of Final Fantasy the Spirits Within, as he repeatedly fires a truck-mounted cannon at a giant Phantom. Justified, because he tried to lure it away from the other heroes. This quickly becomes a Heroic Sacrifice, though considering he was already dying from earlier wounds, anyway, he didn't have much to lose.
- In Final Fantasy XIII:
- Snow does it in Palumpolum when he shoots an overhang in an attempt to scare the crowd away from being shot themselves.
- On board the Palamecia, Vanille does this while gunning down a Vespid Soldier when it and a couple of PSICOM troops come to move them to another cell.
- Sgt. Reznov does this while mowing down German soldiers in Call of Duty: World At War.
- Zaeed Masani of Mass Effect 2 does this when angrily shooting at Vido Santiago's escaping dropship in the Paragon ending of his loyalty mission. It apparently imbued his bullets with anti-materiel penetration power, as it headshotted the dude sitting right next to Santiago, who visibly freaked out at it.
- World of Warcraft recently added in a quest where you help a group of people known as Bravo Company, led by John J. Keeshan, go through an entire orc battalion using a siege tank with Keeshan manning a turret. Keeshan screams appropriately, and the quest is even aptly named AHHHHHHHHHHHH! AHHHHHHHHH!!!
- The player fires his gun into the air at the end of each level in Total Carnage. YEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!
- Rocket Raccoon in Marvel vs. Capcom 3 will do this often, most notably during his Gatling Good Level 1 Hyper Combo.
- The mercenaries in Far Cry: Instincts like to do this whenever they get their mitts on a heavy machine gun, gravitating between macho tough-talk and panic-stricken gibbering.

Real Life[]
- Standard procedure in the early days of the Bosnian army when firing a large caliber machine gun from indoors- makes your ear-drums slightly less likely to burst and no one can hear you over the gun anyway. Ear-protection is much more practical and not to mention less dramatic, tough.
