"Capture Evil. Unleash Good." |
The fourth game in the Skylanders series, released in 2014. It is available for the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Wii, Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. It is also the first main series game to be released on mobile devices, being available for tablets (specifically Android, iOS and Fire OS), although the mobile version is no longer available after July 2018. The game was developed by Toys For Bob (developers of the first two games) and published by Activision.
Trap Team features a new game mechanic, trapping villains, where after a boss fight, the player can place a trap in the portal to make the villain into a playable character. The new team introduced by this game are the Trap Masters, who carry weapons made out of Traptanium, the most powerful crystal in all of Skylands (and the same material used for the traps). In addition, the game also introduces the Mini Skylanders (turning the Sidekicks from the first two games into fully playable characters) and new Cores, as well as two new elements: Light and Dark.
Like its predecessors, Trap Team received positive reviews from critics, with IGN calling it the best game in the franchise. The decision to give Toys For Bob an extra year to develop the game (as Vicarious Visions developed the previous game) was seen positively as well.
This game contains examples of[]
- The Future: The level "The Future of Skylands" is set 10,000 years in the future.
- Heel Face Brainwashing: The trapping of villains.
- Loads and Loads of Characters: While all games in the Skylanders series are this, Trap Team introduces more playable characters than any other game in the series, with 18 Trap Masters, 18 new Cores, 8 new Minis (not counting pre-existing Sidekicks) and 46 trappable villains (although three of them appeared in previous games). The 3DS version has its own set of villains as well.
- Mirror Universe: The "Mirror of Mystery" adventure pack features a level where, according to Glumshanks, everyone's personality is the opposite. For example, Master Eon's counterpart is the evil Evilon, Kaos is nice and the Mabu are an evil military force.
