Sleeps in the Nude

A trope where characters sleeping nude in media. Characters who sleep naked are frequently portrayed as oddballs and may passionately defend their choice, citing health or comfort reasons. Sometimes it’s used for historical or environmental context—like illustrating a time before sleepwear was common, a hot climate, or a lack of clothing due to poverty. Nudity during sleep can also highlight character traits, such as someone’s comfort with their body or minimalist lifestyle.

In fiction, this often doubles as fanservice, especially when attractive or flirtatious characters are involved, like The Tease who brags about sleeping nude to provoke reactions. On the flip side, it can be used as fan disservice when less appealing characters are shown doing the same, for humor or discomfort. The trope often leads to awkward or comedic situations, particularly when characters who sleep nude must share a bed—commonly under the There Is Only One Bed scenario. This can result in shock, embarrassment, or misunderstandings, especially if a surprise bedmate reveal happens. To keep things censored, creators may use techniques like the Modesty Bedsheet or strategic posing.

• Aesthetica of a Rogue Hero has Akatsuki Ousawa sleeps in the nude. At sleep talks and walks, at one time nearly having sex with Miu Ousawa.
• Ayakashi Triangle has Shadow Medi sleeping naked with just a Modesty Bedsheet that pretty much fails to cover her.
• Bubblegum Crisis show Sylia Stingray sleeping this way.
• City Hunter has Rosemary Moon sleeping with no clothes, and even does this in Ryo's apartment much to his and Kaon's shock.
• Dancoug Nova has Aoi a fashion model who dies this when she wakes up from a Catapult Nightmare and in her Modesty Bedsheet.
• Date A Live has a director's cut of episode 2 the anime where Origami Tobiichi sleeps nude.
• Dragon Ball, Bulma is forced to do this when she has to wash her clothes while adventuring with her friends for the Dragon Balls. The blanket she uses to cover herself is the one used to cover the Dragon Balls and Yamacah gets an eyeful when he lifts it up.
• The Duke Of Death And His Maid, has Alice sleeping nude and become a Shameless Fanservice Girl when she reveals that she doesn't care of being seen.
• Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya has Angelica Ainsworth sleeping naked and is always ready to do so.
• Flame of Recca has Yanagi Sakorhita this way while her clothes dry.
• Fushigi Yuugi has this with Miaka Yuuki when she and Tamahome wake up in Taiitsukun's domain.

• In CrossGen's The Mystic, Giselle after having a passionate night with Darrow a god.
• The First, has a lover of Seahn being nude in just a blanket, before the man uses his mind-controlling power to render her a dumb drooling thrall to erase her memories.
• Green Arrow (2001) Issue #13, has Black Canary revealing she sleeps into the nude, after she comes out of her room annoyed by the noise made by Green Arrow and Hawkman.
• In Marvel's The Mighty Thor Vol 1 3, has Sif sleeping naked in her bed only to be disturbed by Kid Loki when he tries to clip a lock of her hair.

• Atlantis: The Lost Empire, the aged Wilhelmina Packard reveals that she sleeps in the nude, so her companions while camping out at some ruins wear sleep masks.
• Gandahar, both Sylvain and Airelle sleep together naked in a nest.
• Justice League vs. Teen Titans, has Beast Boy having a training session with Robin. After he returns to his human form, he exposes his naked body to Robin, who blushes and has to remind him he's not wearing anything. Turns out he sleeps in the nude and forgot to wear something because he was running late.
• Starship Troopers: Invasion, Trig and Bugspray after having sex sleep together in the nude.

• Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow has this with Polly Perkins, Joe Sullivan and Kaji awakening up in the same bed in mythical Shangri-La.
• Nancy from What?, is forced to sleep in the nude at an Italian villa, after losing her luggage to some thugs who attacked her.
• Vampires on Bikini Beach, has Bob and Kim sleeping together in the nude.

• Eight Keys to Eden, colonists on the planet Eden find all their clothes, tools and shelters to vanish, forcing them into a feral existence as naked animals. When
• Genus Homo, the last remnants of humanity awakening millennia into a future where their kind are extinct and many animals had drastically evolved, are caught by intelligent gorillas. They are stripped of their clothes and places in a zoo. Despite all discomfort they force themselves to pick a spot and sleep, until it starts raining the next morning.
• Planet of the Apes, all humans on Sororians sleep this way for ten millennia after the apes stole their civilization from them. Wild Sororians sleep naked in nests in the jungle staying warm by sharing body heat with their mates and families. And captive Sororians sleep in litters of straw in much the same way.
• Shadow-World by P.Z. Walker, Gerda and Nermeli sleep naked together when they are in each others homes.
• The Silk and the Song, has the humans enslaved by the Hussirs being forced to sleep without shelters in the fields or pens they are kept captive in.
