Sonic Adventure: Revolution (yes, it's connected to 'dem play-by-post games, if only slightly) is a belt-scrolling Beat'Em Up by Open DJ Mods HQ. Players can control multiple characters from various assets of the Sonic mythos (plus a few guests) and have them fight their way through hordes of Badniks and other foes in many stages. Players have access to 3 special moves and 1 extra-special move.

Tropes used[]

  • Abnormal Ammo: The Swat Kats have plenty! Charmy also attacks by shooting honey and stingers at enemies. Vector uses bubblegum as a projectile. Michaelangelo throws his nunchucks for his Special. And then along came Jazz Jackrabbit and his team, along with the house-shooting Earthworm Jim.
  • Absurdly Spacious Sewer: In addition to the big one in Manhattan, Wumpa Island also ends in one. Scrap Brain also features a polluted water basin beneath the factory.
  • Anvil on Head: Pimple can turn his hands into anvils.
  • Arm Cannon: Tails uses one.
  • Autobots Rock Out: When the Battletoads arrive in Battle Forest, a rock remix of their original theme song (taken from Killer Instinct 2013) fires up as they help to clear out the Badniks just as their enemies arrive. The same happens in MegaKat City with a remix of the Swat Kats theme, covering both seasons. Double subverted with the TMNT, which starts with the rap "T.U.R.T.L.E. Power", but then brings out the 2003 theme mixed with the 2012 theme.
  • Auto Scrolling Level: Several running sections have players run automatically.
  • Badass Biker: In the speed stages, Razor and T-Bone use motorcycles instead of running
  • Badass Normal: Sally Acorn, the SWAT Kats, the TMNT, Antoine, Rotor, and PaRappa.
  • Blow You Away: Sonic, Tails, and Espio. The latter launches tornadoes at foes.
  • Cast From Hit Points: The Specials can be used this way if you don't have enough mana.
  • Chainsaw Good: Zitz
  • Combos: Combos are counted for all enemies hit by the combo. It is thus possible to link multiple groups of enemies with one combo by moving on to the next quickly after defeating the previous.
  • Combo Breaker: Special moves can be used as this. Projectile ones are especially useful.
  • Cyberspace: Techno Base
  • Death in All Directions: Espio's specialty. Most other characters have at least one such move in their roster.
  • David Versus Goliath: It's easier to name a boss that doesn't fit this trope! Well, some of the bosses are around the size of the guest characters, so the truest examples include Big Blagg, General Slaughter, and Big Arm. Even some of the normal enemies qualify.
  • Down in the Dumps: The first half of Pollution Panic is in a polluted wasteland, but the second half is an Eternal Engine.
  • Dual Boss: General Slaughter and Big Blagg. Bebop and Rocksteady turn out to be a TRIPLE boss when Mecha Sonic jumps in. The second campaign also features a lot of these.
  • Elemental Punch: Charmy has an electric punch as the last move in his combo. Knuckles has two fire uppercuts. Pimple has a stone punch.
  • Eternal Engine: Chemical Plant, Pollution Panic, Scrap Brain.
  • Evil Knockoff: Metal Sonic and Mecha Sonic have been deployed.
  • Fantasy Gun Control: Averted. Shadow uses a handgun as one of his special moves. The Swat Kats also bring many fantastical guns into play. Jazz and his crew, as well.
  • Fighting Clown: Crash Bandicoot. There's also PaRappa, Charmy, and Michaelangelo.
  • Fighting with Chucks: Michaelangelo can even throw his.
  • Flunky Boss: While several bosses continue to have goons spawn, Dr. Viper and Cyber Metal Leader have some specific goons with them that are spawned with them that rarely or never appear in the rest of the stage. Same with Scratch, who has an attack to send in several very weak Badniks in a swarm. The Flower Boss has a number of Flowerbomb (Bloominator) Badnik units spawn around it that can be hit to damage the core, alongside the standard influx of goons.
  • Fuuma Shuriken: Espio
  • Giant Mook: A rather portly-looking SWATBot, along with a few crossover enemies, fill this role.
  • Green Hill Zone: Leaf Forest
  • Guest Fighter: The Battletoads, SWAT Kats, and  Ninja Turtles. And it's not just team heroes, now we have Epsilon Eagle joining the fray. Nine more have followed in the latest update.
  • High Speed Battle
  • Kick Chick: Rouge
  • Level 1 Music Represents: Ragnarok's Canyon is used for Battle Forest. MegaKat City starts with the stage 1 theme of the SWAT Kats SNES game, which is understandable because the level is based on it.
  • Make Me Wanna Shout: Vector
  • Mecha-Mooks: Of course.
  • Megaton Punch: Knuckles's special.
  • Mini-Mook: The Mousers
  • More Dakka: E-103 Delta. Shadow provides a heroic example with his SMG. There are also a few mooks that can do this.
  • Musical Assassin: Vector uses music for several attacks. Zitz also turns his hand into a snare drum for an attack.
  • Palmtree Panic; Pollution Panic is a gruesomely polluted and industrialized version of the Trope Namer, while Crystal Coast is riddled with huge quartz crystals that indicate the villain who makes his base there.
  • Playing With Fire: Vector can shoot small fireballs, Sonic has his Fire Somersault, Knuckles has a flaming drill punch and a firey shoryuken. And now there's Blaze the Cat in the game. Epsilon Eagle also uses firey attacks. Jazz and Spaz also both have flaming attacks,
  • Psychic Powers: Silver uses these.
  • Punched Across the Room: Rash's neutral throw, and one of his Freespecials. Let's not forget Knuckles's special...
  • Random Encounters: In stages such as Speed Slider, enemies will continuously spawn at random. Other stages have Enemy Summoner units that call in random weak enemies until players destroy them.
  • Recurring Boss: Mecha Sonic returns in Manhattan and Techo Base (under the name "Cyber Metal Leader") in addition to Quartz Paradise. E-103 Delta also appears twice. Several previous bosses return in Scrap Brain, and in the second campaign.
  • Red Boxing Gloves: Tails uses a red boxing glove on a spring for some attacks.
  • Ridiculously Cute Critter: Tails and Charmy. Not to mention Klonoa.
  • Rock Steady: Knuckles throws a rock for a special attack. Speaking of which, don't get this confused with one of the crossover bosses...
  • Rolling Attack: Sonic and Shadow can do this with down+attack in air (in Sonic's case, this is also done for his crouch attack and two of his throws). This is also the dash attack of Mighty and Vector. This is also done by Tails as his crouching attack. Knuckles can do this as his down-throw. Earl has a strange variant of this.
  • Sai Guy: Raphael
  • Shock and Awe: Charmy Bee, Tails, and E-123 Omega.
  • Shoryuken: Knuckles has three jumping uppercuts (the first two are firey). One as a freespecial, the other two being his up and down throws.
  • Smart Bomb: Earthworm Jim
  • Spikes of Doom: Techo Base has ones that shoot laser beams. Standard spikes do show up in Pollution Panic. Scrap Brain will also be home to these.
  • Spin Attack: Espio has several. Tails can also perform one as a freespecial and as his down-throw. Blaze also brings one in.
  • Starfish Robots: There's a few particularly odd Robotnik creations, like the Hoptercopter and Camera-Turret.
  • Strong Flesh, Weak Steel: Most enemies are robots. Zitz can even make robots bleed with one attack.
  • This Is a Drill: Zitz. There are also a few E-100 enemies that have drills.
  • Throwing Your Nunchuckau Always Work: Michaelangelo flings his nunchucks at targets for his Special.
  • Underground Monkey: Egg Pawns are colored by their attack type. Light gray ones have guns, purple ones have bigger guns, green ones throw bombs, and navy blue ones have lances. E-100 units (both the standard model and the Phi Gizoid) aren't color swapped, but have two different behavior types. The SWATBots appear to have distinct body types based on role.
  • Unique Enemy: The Ratt Pack and Psyko Pigs are only in Battle Forest. The Cyber Metal units are only present as the flunkies of the lead Cyber Metal. MegaKat City has a few exclusive enemies as well, namely mutants created by Dr. Viper, notably three large ones who serve as guards to Dr. Viper and serve as mini-bosses prior to that. The Foot and Purple Dragons, along with Mousers, are only in Manhattan. Invincible, celing-mounted Corkeys show up in Toxic Caves and only there. Emerald Hill Fleet is the only place you can find Balkiry (AKA Wingjet). Azure Lake contains the only Flowerbombs in the game, spawned by their boss.
    • Subverted with the crossover enemies, who serve as major enemies in the second campaign.
  • The War Sequence: City Invasion. Emerald Hill Fleet, as well.
  • Wolfpack Boss: The SSSSS Squad + Snively, as well as a number of others.
  • Wolverine Claws/Femme Fatalons: E-123 Omega and Rash.
