  • Character Rerailment: Peter B. is a whiny, jaded Anti-Hero, but so was Earth-616 Peter when he started out.
  • Ensemble Darkhorse: While the Kingpin is a solid villain in his own right, Olivia Octavius and Prowler steal his thunder and then some. The former is the perfect blend of hilarious and menacing while being drop-dead gorgeous to boot, and the other is a terrifying badass responsible for most of the film's darkest and most emotional scenes, as well as heartwarming ones given Aaron's love for his nephew.
    • This film's incarnation of Aunt May is easily one of the most popular versions of the character thanks to her status as Blonde!Spider-Man's personal assistant and a science wiz with wits to match his own. The scene where she effortlessly kicks Tombstone's ass gives her some good badass cred as well.
  • Evil Is Sexy: Once she puts her hair up, shows off her flattering jumpsuit, and embraces her freaky side, Olivia Octavius becomes a lot hotter.
  • Fandom Rivalry: Downplayed compared to most examples, but some think that this film proves that Sony should have full rights over Spider-Man, while others are happy to see him return to Marvel so he can be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
  • Hype Backlash: Much like Frozen, the fact that this film's supporters are so eager about it meant that it simply couldn't match up to the expectations of those who hadn't seen it yet.
  • Jerkass Woobie: Peter B. Parker is a gruff, pessimistic jerk to Miles when they first meet, but considering all the trauma he's faced over the years as well as his recent divorce with his universe's MJ, it's hard to blame the guy for being a sourpuss.
    • Kingpin as well. Ruthless crime boss he may be, the tragic death of his wife and son as well as the sound of utter defeat in his voice when versions of his wife reject him across the multiverse really sell him as a sad, broken family man.
  • Older Than They Think:
    • Spider-Ham has been appearing in Marvel media since 1983, but non-comic-readers assume that he's a reference to 2007's The Simpsons Movie.
    • About 85% of the plot bears an uncanny similarity to Ben 10: Omniverse‍'‍s "And Then There Were" two-parter.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: Tombstone gets no good screentime despite being one of the main members of Kingpin's posse, and barely has any lines to showcase Martin "Krondon" Jones' surprisingly good acting chops. He was supposed to have a funny scene that expanded upon the Spider-Men (and women) tricking their way into Kingpin's gala, but it was sadly left on the cutting room floor.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: Considering the situation that named I Let Gwen Stacy Die, it's something of a waste that Peter B. has no real reaction to seeing a version of Gwen Stacy that is alive and well. And given that Peter is the one who died in the Spider-Gwen books, it's equally a waste that she has no reaction to meeting another Peter Parker.
  • The Woobie: Whether it's watching the original Spider-Man die, finding out that his uncle is the murderous Prowler, almost being killed on multiple occasions by him, having him die in his arms, disappointing the other Spider-Men with his initial failures at making his powers work, and fearing that his dad would hate him if he knew about his powers, it's clear that Miles Morales really needs a big hug.
