"What kind of a moron throws a ball at someone?"

This episode of Stupid Mario Brothers open up with Mario and Luigi out on a normal ride on Go-Karts. Unfortunately, their wacky life gets in the way when the run into a new character, Ensemble Darkhorse, Unpopular Popular Character, and a general ditz, Ash Ketchum.

This episode is most often considered to be very good, and a highlight of the first season. Its introduction of Ash Ketchum, the first non-Mario related character, has helped this. The episode can be found here. The wiki page is here.

• Comically Missing the Point: Mario considers Ash a weirdo because he wears short-sleave shirts in winter.
• Continuity Nod: Wario's love for The Golden Compass and his hate for Peter Jackson
• Department of Redundancy Department: He's gotta catch 'em all! He's just gotta!
• Running Gag: Ash's entering a scene with his trademarked theme song. This ends up happening at least two more times in the series.
• Overly Long Gag:

Ash: My name is Ash Ketchum. I come from Kanto City. I was trying to catch you! Mario: Catch me? WHY?!?! Ash: Because I gotta catch 'em all! Luigi: Catch what all? Ash: All the Pokemon. Mario: What are Pokemon?! Ash: What I have to catch all of! Luigi: Why did you through this ball at us? Ash: I mistook you for a Charizard level 37, post-transformation Charmeleon. Mario: And that's a Pokemon? Ash: It is one of kabillions I must catch, for I must... catch them all. Mario: AND WHY DO YOU HAVE TO CATCH THEM ALL?!?! Ash: Because *camera closes in on his face* I gotta.
