- Crapsack World: Earth is pretty close at the beginning of the main campaign, but Mars is nigh but all this trope. Aspects of a Crapsaccharine World exist as well, as the more corrupt people in high places are burying the evidence of the worst parts, though there are reformist elements trying to fix things.
- A World Half Full: By the Expansion Pack, the Sol Solar System is much better off, and aside from the threat of the expansion trying to reverse that trend, things are looking up.
