Crowning Music of Awesome: Say what you want about the series: badly animated? Maybe. Bad voice acting? Maybe. Plots that were so thin as to be anorexic until almost the very end? Maybe. But the theme song... man, the theme song was epic!
The opening theme of Challenge of the Superfriends ending with the Superfriends and the Legion of Doom running towards each other. This remix ramps up the awesomeness even further.
Giganta is quite... popular amongst so called "macrophiliacs."
Don't forget Wonder Woman. When someone makes a "she can tie me up any time" joke, chances are they've only seen her on Superfriends or the old live action TV show. (People who've actually read her comics tend to have more ... elaborate fantasies, and she didn't break out the lasso nearly as often in the newer Justice League animated series.)
The Season 3a episode "Journey Through Inner Space" is perfect for those with endosomatophilia, although there's some Fetish Retardant by having Aquaman be a mutated shark creature throughout the episode.
In the episode "The Seeds of Doom," Cyborg is restrained by some demonic vines.
Growing the Beard: Started to by replacing Wendy and Marvin with the Wonder Twins and by having more serious stories. Grew the full beard with Challenge of the Superfriendsand did it again towards the end with the additions of Firestorm, Cyborg, and Darkseid and Co., making a rare Long Runner whose final season is widely regarded as one of its best.
This series' Cyborg could only ask for Firestorm and was too scared to handle situations on his own, instead preferring to be rescued. Thankfully, he was spared the torment, unlike Aquaman, as he didn't appear in another cartoon until 2003, which did him justice.
This is the same with Wonder Woman, who got captured way more often than the rest of the Super Friends.
A specific instance of this catchphrase from the episode "The Voodoo Vampire" seems to be the most memetic. Black Vulcan's wide, almost cartoony eyes and his moving from side to side have garnered a lot of laughs.
"Get some help" (Bonus points for Cyborg having said it BEFORE Michael Jordan!)
The "scream" (if you could even CALL it that) Cyborg does afterwards has to be heard to be believed.
Seasonal Rot: Inverted in that the various incarnations of this series got artistically better with each one. For instance, for all the snickering about the Wonder Twins, at least they could meaningfully contribute to the fights with their superpowers, which is more than Wendy and Marvin could ever manage.
So Bad It's Good: Hilariously terrible (especially at the start), but also oddly endearing.
In the "Galactic Guardians" series, there's "The Fear." Holy shit, "The Fear." It's not the first animated rendition of Batman's backstory for anything.
"The Death of Superman" is a very powerful episode. The fact that Superman died, the characters seriously mourn the loss of their friend, and the entire world dealing with the lack of Superman all happened in a Super Friends episode is still quite the shock to first time watchers.
