Superman Unchained Vol 1 1

A 2013 limited comic book series by DC Comics, set in the New 52 continuity.

It's just another common day for Superman, stopping objects falling from the sky of hitting Earth, except this ones were thrown towards Earth with malicious intent. As always, Superman suspects Luthor, but he have no proof yet. And one of the objects falls in a different place than Clark thought it would fall, so he decides to investigate where this satellite fell to try to discover what may have changed his trajectory, only to be attacked by a USA's submarine, trying to eliminate proof of "something". Something related to a secret base full of experimental weapons, and where a being that a USA's general call "the real Superman" resides, something that destroyed Nagasaki in 1945...

Written by Scott Snyder.

Tropes used in Superman Unchained include:

  • Colony Drop: How the whole story starts, with objects around the Earth's orbit being thrown at specific targets on the surface, including a secret space station.
  • Evil Counterpart: The USA's military apparently have one against Superman, one that was around before Kal-El was even born.
  • Historical In-Joke: The americans didn't throw a nuke at Nagasaki, oh no. They threw a super-powered being at them.
  • Not Me This Time: Luthor invokes this trope while rambling about some kind of solar power station to Superman.
