Taerel is an original, scifi/horror Worldbuilding project set after (and soon, soon after and before) a vampire outbreak brought the zu'aan empires of Taerel to their knees. Taerel was started in 2015 as the "Vampyre clans project" and grew from there. It was created by a Wikia (now Fandom) user named "The Burning Princess". It is written by a large number of users together.

The wiki's purpose is to make a world for others to read and enjoy. A wiki cataloging the setting can be found here.

Tropes used in Taerel Setting include:

  • After the End: The of Taerel in the Shattering Age and the Awakening Age is a world after a Zombie Apocalypse turn most of the people in the world into vampires. After the end, the zu'aan are just scattered tribes and city states and the vampires are warring clans.
  • Alien Sky: The world of Taerel has three moons, the page "Diwarale Kin'toni Clan" is where it is mentioned. One moon, near the Eastern horizon, one moon near the Western horizon and one moon near the Northern horizon.
  • Alternative Calendar: In the world of Taerel, dates are written a XE XXX format, first number before E being era number and the ones after are the year numbers. Ages are names after their technology level or via the main event of that age. Ages are name as things like "Twilight Age" "Awakening Age" "Stone Age" and "Copper Age". In now Retconned 2015 era works, B.P.D dares was used, but those make no sense if one remembers one has to add a year each year after each event. This would make writing dates hard to do.
  • Apocalypse How: The Twilight Age and Awakening Age lore is set after a Class 2 one, where the world is sent back technologically to iron age at best, stone age. There is a possible class 3 one coming with the ice age that may end all sophont life on the planet.
  • Bio Augmentation: The kin'toni, as stated on their: biology lore are superhuman sophonts changed via gene modding and nanites made to be Super Soldiers for the Xerea zu'aan Empire. Their turning on the Xerea Empire and the zu'aan lead to the Awakening and the events afterwards.
  • Cataclysm Backstory: The "Awakening Age" backstory basically talks about how the world had an outbreak of vampirism that took down the advanced Genetic Age (when the Xerea Empire and zu'aan technology was at its hight).
  • Don't Go in The Woods: There are woodlands inhabited by hostile kin'toni (vampire) and zu'aan (human-like alien) clans and tribes. Such places inculde the Saldight Ominous Woods, inhabited by the Roh Kin'toni Clan, the Zarel Snowy Forest, inhabited by the Elm'ess Kin'toni Clan and the Lyeet Seasonal Forest, inhabited by the Torust Kin'toni Clan.
  • Doorstopper: The wiki is pretty big by now, being 2,421,396 words and 903 pages. Think of that as 1.76101527273 Encyclopædia Britannica volumes or an 24 book series (100k per novel). This is more words then Lord of the Rings, or the Dresden Files book series (1,997,201 words).
  • Dying Race: The zu'aan are slowing dying out, dragging the vampire kin'toni with them. The zu'aan and kin'toni are dying out from hunger, war, diseases, normal After the End word stuff. The zu'aan reproduce slowly, and having children is a dangerous thing in this world. The kin'toni rely on the zu'aan to reproduce by turning them into more kin'toni.
  • The Empire: The Xerea zu'aan empire was this in the Genetic Age.
  • Fantasy Counterpart Culture: The Xearea Empire is pretty much the setting version of Ancient Rome in its final years - to the point of having romen numbered "Legions".
  • Fantastic Racism: The kin'toni and zu'aan hate each other, the point of wars being conducted out of hate. Notably, there was the wars between the Ga'leth Tribal zu'aamn and the kin'toni of the Vaarant Snowy Beach. The kin'toni are called "monsters", "blood-sucking fiends" and "beasts" by the zu'aan.
  • Festering Fungus: The Umvera Kin'toni Clan are affected by a fungus that grows from their wounds and slowly disables them with time. In extreme cases, it can even kill the kin'toni.
  • Genetic Engineering Is the New Nuke: In Taerel Setting, genetic engineering can do things as dramatic as making people into bloodthirsty vampires. Given how drastic the changes are to make someone into a kin'toni, it makes no sense from a real life viewpoint.
  • Gone Horribly Right: The kin'toni project, referred to as "project Bloodmoon" in some pages. It was a attempt to make super soldiers for the Xerea's Empire wars of conquest. Yes, they made their super soldiers, but they turned on their handlers and started am outbreak of vampire that turned most of the world's population into vampires and brought the advanced genetic nations to their knees.
  • Grim Up North: The hateful, savage Loremdra Kin'toni Clan are from the grim north. There is also the Shauren Iceplains, an area inhabited by the savage Vytheri Kin'toni Clan. The Shauren Iceplains is implied to be in the North due to the description of its seasons.
  • LEGO Genetics: The kin'toni genetics are pretty much LEGO, working a lot like those mutations in Cataclysm. It is possible for kin'toni to grow wings, webbed hands, fur, and so on. examples include: Tiess Kin'toni Clan who had a first generation with scaled skin and later generations that are blind, but with enhanced smell and touch and "dagger like teeth" and webbed hands and feet. There is also the Ydari Kin'toni Clan who have wings and the power to fly.
  • Lost Technology: The advanced technology, including advanced genetic engineering, nanotechnology and atomic superweapons, of the Xerea Empire, and other pre-Awakening (vampire outbreak) nations has been lost, leaving behind only remnants like an zu'aan city's hydroponic farm. The world after the Awakening operates on a technology level ranging from stone age to iron age.
  • Healing Factor: The kin'toni have a healing factor, being able to grow back limbs in months and heal with burns and crushing damage easily. Stab wounds and bullet wounds healing within days.
  • Horror Hunger: The kin'toni crave zu'aan blood, but can survive without it. This drives them to hunt down the zu'aan to drink their tasty blood.
  • Metamorphosis: The kin'toni (vampire) transformation is a slow, one way, irreversible transformation from humanoid alien to vampire.
  • Nanomachines: The kin'toni virus was made using "nanotech-altered conventional hantavirus packets" and one kin'toni, Rykintas Aughan of the Cutiausk Kin'toni Clan, had an heart attack when the nanobots in his body turned on him.
  • Nuclear Option: When the kin'toni (vampire) outbreak spread, nuclear weapons was used to try and fail to stop the outbreak. Due to this the Swudra Wasteland was ruined into to an radioactive wasteland, and the Verny Barren Desert became a radioactive desert.
  • Not Using the Z Word: Taerel very rarely uses the word "vampire", preferring "kin'toni". The only time it is averted is on JS117's pages
  • Our Vampires Are Different:The kin'toni are Transhuman Rubber Forehead Aliens that are not bothered by religious symbols, running water, silver or the like. They are burned in sunlight but that is more their bodies rejecting their own tissues. The interesting thing about the kin'toni is due to the fact their bodies contain a lot of totipotent stem cells, allowing their bodies to mutate to adapt to their environments. This leads to clans of mutated vampires each with their own strengths, weakness and mutations.
  • Pointy Ears: The kin'toni Our Vampires Are Different and zu'aan Rubber Forehead Aliens both have pointed ears. Often, kin'toni clan lore page biology sections talk about what their pointed ears look like. It would be better to list aversions of this trope due to just how common pointed ears are in this setting.
  • Retcon: The setting has had plenty of recons, the first was the B.P.D dates being switched over to "XE XXX" dates and the second, was the names stolen from the The Elder Scrolls lore being changed to original randomly generated names. The third was the Shattering Age being renamed the Twilight Age and the fourth was the Twilight Age becoming 500 years long. It was 250 years long before.
  • Scenery Gorn: The buildings of the pre-Awakeing ages are in ruins, and overgrown by plants. Often, when pre-Awakening buildings are mentioned in lore, they are referred to as "ruins". In Haetran Fen, there are the ruins of an chemical factory. In the Randgriok Cloud Forest, there is the ruin of an zu'aan hotel. In the Ghaechsh Sandstone Ranges, three are the ruins of a city.
  • Scavenger World: The Awakening Age was implied to be this. "The medicine and technology of the old world become valuable as it slowly vanishes."
  • Sliding Scale of Vampire Friendliness: The kin'toni are in the middle as the kin'toni may often be hostile to the zu'aan (human-like aliens) they are able to cooperate time to time. Clans vary a lot, some clans being feral vampires such as the Roh Kin'toni Clan to more reasonable clans such as the Omine Kin'toni Clan.
  • Super Strength: The kin'toni (vampire super soldiers) have super strength due to "rapid cellular regeneration, stem cell rejuvenation and a mix of altered hormonal production and adrenaline stimulation". This makes them much stronger than a zu'aan (humanoid alien sophont).
  • Super Senses: The kin'toni have super sense such as perfect night vision and hawk-like daytime vision, vastly increased hearing ranges, an hyper-accurate sense of balance and direction and an bloodhound like sense of smell.
  • Super Toughness: The kin'toni are tough, due to their Healing Factor, Bullets, cuts and stabs are pretty pointless due to how fast they heal and most bullet hydrostatic shock has no immediate effects on a kin'toni body.
  • Synthetic Plague: The kin'toni (vampire) virus was made in a lab for a Super Soldier project but the kin'toni (vampires) turned on their creators, and got out of the lab, turning all in their path. This lead to the fall of the Genetic Age (the world at its technological height) nations.
  • Transhuman: The kin'toni (vampires) are transsophonts with superhuman strength, super toughness, enhanced senses, and the power to create more of their kind via a bite. They was made as part of a Super Soldier project but turned on their makers.
  • The Apunkalypse: After the Awakening, the world slowly slipped back to technology varying from stone age to iron age. In the Awakening Age, the zu'aan was hunted vy the kin'toni and had to form small tribes in order to suirve, and later in the Twilight Age, formed cities. The way of live after the end is primitive.
  • The Virus: The kin'toni virus. Get bitten and you will face a slow one want transformation into a kin'toni yourself.
  • Viral Transformation: The vampire virus that turns people into kin'toni (vampires) was made in a lab at the end of the Genetic Age. The test subjects escaped, and turned all in their path. This lead to a global outbreak that collapsed all Genetic Age nations and in time sent the world back to the stone age.
  • Vestigial Empire: After the Awakening, the Xerea zu'aan Empire is this. The events of the Awakening stripped them of much of their land and population.
  • Weakened by the Light: The kin'toni (vampires) reject their own flesh when exposed to UV light such as sunlight
  • Zombie Apocalypse: In the year 3E 3000 the fall of the Genetic Age nations was due to this, the vampires (called kin'toni in this setting) causing it having escaped the lab and started spreading their vampire virus infection, leading to ever increasing numbers of kin'toni who in time outnumbered the zu'aan and led the world's tech to go back to the stone age.
