Main character page | Taimanins (Asagi Igawa | Sakura Igawa | Shiranui Mizuki) | Villains (Oboro | Edwin Black | Ingrid) | Others
Asagi Igawa full body

The main protagonist of the entire franchise. She is the strongest warrior of the Anti-Demon Ninjas. A female ninja of justice who fights demons and evil humans. She lost both of her parents at an early age and now acts as the guardian to her sister, Sakura. Ingenious at the martial art of fencing, she has speedily excelled in her training and is recognized for her achievements thus far as the strongest of those repelling the demon influence. Her childhood friend, and her love, Kyousuke Sawaki, was her on of her father's pupils. Above anything else, all Taimanin, like Asagi, live a life filled with danger and carnage, and as such, their duties always take priority. Thus is taboo for a Taimanin to marry a non-Taimanin, and as such, Asagi is forced, much too often, to cast away Kyousuke's love.

After the events of Taimanin Asagi 1, Asagi became the leader of the Taimanin and headmistress of Gosha Academy, the educational institution for all Taimanin. Using her supernatural abilities and skills as a master swordsman, Asagi is able to move beyond human perception. After the events of Taimanin Asagi 2, she was able to awaken a Super-Powered Evil Side that give her immeasurable strength but comes at the risk of Asagi losing her humanity if her were to rely on it too much. Her weapon of choice is a katana.

Asagi possesses the ninja art known as "Hawk Art". This ability allows Asagi to heighten her senses and physical capabilities. While using this ninja art, Asagi can move six times faster and views the world as though it was going in slow motion. Others will perceive her as moving at the speed of light. However, since her ninja art can be very taxing to Asagi's body, she cannot use this ability multiple times at once.

Tropes applied to Asagi in general:[]

  • Absurdly Youthful Mother: In Taimanin Asagi 3. She is the adoptive mother of the teenaged Kosuke and Asuka when she is only in her early 30s.
  • The Ace: Often regarded as the "Strongest Taimanin" (or "Almighty Taimanin" for the official English translation).
  • Adaptational Jerkass: In ZERO's timeline, Asagi is an Insufferable Genius that look down on other Taimanin and strives to go solo for that reason. However, she does have a heart, see Jerk with a Heart of Gold below.
  • Alternate Self: In ZERO, where it revealed that there are actually two Asagi in that timeline, the young teenage rebel and Vampire Asagi from TA3 alternate bad ending.
  • Babies Ever After: Subverted. Any route where she is impregnated are always non-canon bad ending. Listing off some notable examples:
    • One route in TA1 would end with Oboro being able to perform a Break Them By Talking to Asagi by revealing that she is pregnant with an orc child. Asagi became so distressed by the news that Oboro was able take control of Asagi and force her to kill Sakura, resulting in Asagi becoming an Empty Shell. Afterwards, Oboro gave the mind broken Asagi to a horde of orcs, so that she can be their plaything. At the end of the route, the orcs claimed that Asagi had given birth to several demon children, with another on the way.
    • In TA2's "Vampire Oboro's Slaves" route, Asagi and Sakura would both end up pregnant as a result being raped by various demons on the orders of Vampire Oboro
    • In the bad ending route of Summer Days, Asagi along with Sakura and Muruaski all end being impregnated by the demon Booker Walls.
    • A dark variation occurs when Asagi gives birth to an orc child in one of the non-canon bad endings of TA3. She was shown to be heavily pregnant with her son, Big, in episode 2 of the TA3 anime adaptation.
  • Badass: When not otherwise rendered unable to fight, she's pretty badass.
    • Badass in Distress: Comes with the territory of being the main protagonist in a hentai series centered around hardcore rape.
  • Badass Boast: Her less modest ZERO counterpart can dish these out at times, especially in the visual novel’s good ending. She also gives one to Kotarou Fuuma in Battle Arena.
    • Asagi: “It seems you know who I am, yet you dare to turn your blade against me? You think you'll be able to get away from this with just a bruise and a scratch?”
  • Balloon Belly: This happens to her a few times in the visual novels and OVA series due to cum inflation.
  • Battle in the Center of the Mind: Let's just say that Asagi and her inner demon Kage don't often see eye to eye.
  • Betty and Veronica:
    • Kousuke and Edwin Black, respectively, to her "Archie".
    • She can also be considered the Veronica (the sexually active nemesis) to Ingrid's Betty (the sexually inexperienced confidant) for Edwin Black's Archie.
  • BFS: Gets a cool collapsible one to go along with her new Taimanin suit, neither last long unfortunately.
  • Bigger Bad: During The Reveal in TA0, where it turns out Vampire Asagi is this along with Edwin Black. The big reveal is that ZERO's timeline is actually a continuation of TA3 ending where Asagi become Edwin Black's vampire mate, and the two fused together to recreated the universe. Now Vampire Asagi want to regain a body of her own and plan to use her Alternate Self as a vessel.
  • Big Good: She acts as this in the RPGX and Action story-lines, being the academy's principal and Taimanin leader who assigns the protagonist on various missions.
  • Big Damn Hero: In Taimanin Yukikaze’s good ending, she saves both Yukikaze and Rinko before they were force to be Sex Slaves at Under Eden.
  • Big Sister Instinct: She is very protective of Sakura and would willingly suffer any form of torture if it would protect her sister. In the visual novel of TA2, Asagi's Super-Powered Evil Side was triggered when she thought Saya killed Sakura.
  • Boobs of Steel: She holds the title of the "Strongest Taimanin" has a bust size of 88-90 cm.
  • Breast Expansion: Happens to Asagi in the first game, is retained in the second onward, even being a minor plot point in the second game.
  • Butt Monkey: Has an entire franchise focused on torturing her, her family, her friends, and students. Life isn't exactly good to her.
    • Throw the Dog a Bone: For all the misfortunes she has to endure, Asagi at least gets the last laugh on her enemies in general.
  • Cool Big Sis: Sakura considers her to be this.
  • Crusading Widower: In TA1, Asagi was planning to retire and marry her childhood friend. However, her fiance was killed as the end of the first game/anime and Asagi has since decided that she will not attempt to settle down again until she puts an end to the demon threat that is plaguing the world.
  • Dark Mistress: To Edwin Black in any of the bad endings where she becomes his vampiric mate.
  • Deadpan Snarker: At times.
    • ??? (after being hit by a kunai): Y, you made me bleed...... Y, you’ll regret that!
    • Asagi: What, did Papa never slap that mouth?
  • Determinator: Possibly her most defining feature, in terms of personality.
  • Dirty Harriet: In Taimanin Asagi 2, she and Sakura disguise themselves as prostitutes while investigating the Tokyo Kingdom.
  • The Dreaded: According to Taimanin Yukikaze, her name alone is said to cause “the servants of darkness to shudder”.
  • Dub Name Change: Her name is “Ashaj” in the Chinese translations.
  • Even the Girls Want Her: Characters from both genders are shown to be attracted to her, for example, Murasaki has a huge crush on her. However, this isn't necessarily a good thing, considering many of the female villains want to have their way with her.
  • Evil Costume Switch: Two. One happens when her Super-Powered Demonic Side takes over, which has a darker take on her usual kunoichi attire, and the other occurs courtesy of Edwin Black in one of the endings to the third game, in which Asagi gets turned into a vampire.
  • Expy: As a whole, Asagi is considered the Hentai version of Taki and Hibana.
    • Based off on Kagami's early fanart, she also seem to be visually inspired by Nico Robin.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: The "Responsible Sibling" to Sakura's "Foolish Sibling".
  • Faux Action Girl: Is often shown losing a majority of her fights, but to be fair, her defeats are often caused by a case of Worf Had the Flu. Averted in RPGX and Action.
  • Fusion Dance: In TA3's bad ending and its continuation in TA0, it is revealed that Asagi and Edwin Black fused together and are sharing one body. The two can still interact with each other in a metaphysical sense, and the body will take the form of whoever is in control at the time. Although Vampire Asagi's goal is to reclaim a body of her own and plans to take possession of her Alternate Self in TA0 to do so.
  • Girly Bruiser: Asagi is more feminine than her sister and is often regarded as the “Strongest Taimanin.”
  • Green Eyes
  • Heir to the Dojo
  • Hidden Villain: Vampire Asagi in ZERO's alternate timeline, who has been secretly masterminding everything with Edwin Black, and desires to takes over the body of her Alternate Self.
  • Human Mom, NonHuman Dad: Has been the "human mom" in several non-canon endings to different demon children. Her most notable non-canon child is her orc son, Big.
  • I Just Want to Be Normal: In the first game. All she ever wanted was to settle down with her childhood friend and put her Taimanin days behind her. Unfortunately, her past caught up to her, and she decided to stay as a Taimanin ever since.
  • Instant Birth, Just Add Water: In one of TA3's bad endings, a pregnant Asagi gives birth to her orc son just mere minutes after her water breaks.
  • Insufferable Genius: In ZERO's timeline, Asagi is still a prodigy among other Taimanin, but this version of her lets her talents go to her head.
  • Japanese Delinquents: In ZERO, where the younger, teenage Asagi broke off from the Taimanin working for the government to start her own gang. Funny enough, Asagi forces her followers to be actual good students at their high school, but still acts rebellious towards most authority figures.
  • Jail Bait Wait: Waited until Kousuke was of age (about roughly 9 years) before starting an intimate relationship with him. Granted, she probably didn't consider having a relationship with Kousuke until he was close to the age of consent.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: As insolent as she is in ZERO, Asagi at least dearly loves Sakura and is friendly toward Murasaki.
  • Kuudere: Asagi's aloof and cool-headed persona masks a caring and loving heart for her family and students. Disturbingly, this isn't always entirelygone in bad endings where she's been corrupted and is instead training the next generation of Taimanin to be demonic moles and sex slaves.
  • The Leaderess: Became the official leaderess of Taimanin organization sometime before the events of Taimanin Yukikaze.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Asagi's power allows her to move at the speed of light.
  • Lovely Angels: Forms this with Sakura during the first two games.
  • Magical Girlfriend: For her completely normal boyfriend, Kyousuke. Slightly subverted with Kousuke since, unlike his brother, Kousuke does possess some form of supernatural abilities.
  • The Mentor: Being a teacher at Goshu Academy and later the leader of the Taimanins, Asagi had a large part in training many of the younger Taimanins. Some of her students include her sister Sakura, Murasaki, Yukikaze, Rinko, Tatsuro, and her prodigy and adopted daughter, Asuka.
  • A Mother to Her Men
  • Ms. Robinson: In TA3, after she began to have a relationship with the teenaged Kousuke, the younger brother of her late boyfriend. Keep in mind that Asagi would be in her early 30s at this time.
  • Pay Evil Unto Evil:
    • When gathering info concerning the Chaos Arena in TA1, Asagi broke several antiques that belonged to an orc named Pig. She also used her blade’s ridge to strike him (though the first time she did it was out of self-defense), threatened to slay him, and shook the orc around several times. While this was certainly harsh, Pig also deserved it because orcs love to rape women as well as obsessed with it preoccupied with it to boot. Deconstructed as this apparently made the orc desire revenge.
    • In ZERO, Asagi gives Byg a brutal beatdown and even ruins one of his testicles. Cruel? Yes. That being said, Byg had it coming as he and his gang-raped numerous women until they died. Not to mention that he attempted to have Asagi’s limbs cut off and raped her like crazy. This is also deconstructed example as this resulted in Byg seeking revenge on her later in the visual novel.
    • In ZERO’s good ending, Asagi breaks the aforementioned Byg’s nose. Into the bargain, she devastated his other testicle. However, he deserved it as the orc had Asagi ravished constantly and forcibly inseminated with an orc tot. (As a side note, she did not even know the identity of its father.) Also deconstructed as the narrator states, “Even if [she] killed [him] thousands of times, [she] wouldn’t be satisfied...”
  • Promotion to Parent: After Kyousuke's death, she adopts his younger brother Kosuke and Asuka. Before that, she also raised Sakura after they were orphaned.
  • The Protagonist: For most of the franchise, particularly the main games.
  • Purple Is Powerful: Stated to be the most powerful Taimanin in-series, and her uniform is purple.
  • Red Baron: The "Strongest Taimanin" or the "Almighty Taimanin".
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The Blue Oni to Sakura's Red Oni.
  • Retirony: At the beginning of the first game, Asagi was planning to marry Kyousuke and leave the demon-hunting business...let's just say it didn't work out, and Asagi’s retirement was not permanent.
  • Screaming Birth: In one of TA3's bad endings when giving birth to her orc son, Big. Justified, as the Corrupted Sakura and Murasaki wanted to make the experience as painful to Asagi as possible and even forced her to give birth while standing up.
  • Settle for Sibling: Began to form a relationship with Kousuke, Kyousuke's younger brother, in TA3, almost ten years after Kyousuke's death.
  • Sex Slave: Was forced to be this on a couple of occasions.
  • Sibling Team: With Sakura.
  • Speed Blitz: Her unique ninja ability is basically this.
  • Spy Catsuit: Her signature outfit. Usually wears a purple one, but few occasions, she is also seen wearing a white one.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: She's definitely the more feminine of the two as opposed to her sister, being much more demure and ladylike.
  • Ugly Guy, Hot Wife: In the anime and one of TA3's non-canon bad endings, she ends up marrying the orc Dogle.
    • In Summer Days' bad ending, Asagi ends up "marrying" the demon Booker Walls, who is a short, ugly Gonk.
  • Unholy Matrimony:
    • In TA3 and TA0’s bad endings, Asagi can form one with Edwin Black in which she takes him up on his offer to rule the world together and becomes his mate.
    • In an alternate bad ending in TA3 and in the animated OVA (which also overlaps with Rape Is Love), the mind broken Asagi could end up forming one with the orc Dogle.
  • Victim Falls For Rapist:
    • In some of TA2’s bad endings, a mind-broken Asagi ends up viewing Oboro as her mistress and allows herself to be raped by demons as a means to please her.
    • In one of TA3's bad endings (which overlaps with Rape Is Love at that), Asagi ends up marrying, Dogle, an orc that also raped and impregnated her with his child.
    • In Summer Days' bad ending, Asagi along with Sakura and Murasaki, all end up falling in love with the demon Booker Walls after he kidnaps and impregnates them with his children.
  • Wife Husbandry: A gender-swap variation from the usual examples. Asagi is Kousuke's legal guardian after his brother's death, and has raised the boy for the past 9 years. Seeing as Kousuke would be in his mid-to-late teens in TA3, it's safe to say that Asagi has raised him since childhood, doesn't stop them from forming a relationship.
  • Willfully Weak: According to Action, when fighting alongside Gosha students, she purposefully holds back as to let them operate and so she can see how they are faring.
  • Worf Had the Flu: In her first fight in the arena, Asagi was in no condition to fight, so she was beaten. Even Sakura is surprised at her poor performance and some viewers believe she lost on purpose.
  • Younger and Hipper: In ZERO, where her age is changed from being a woman in her twenty to thirties in the main series, to being aged back down to a teenager.

Tropes applied to Kage[]

Taimanin Asagi2 ta01 01 (91)

The inner demon of Asagi Igawa. During Asagi's investigation of Tokyo Kingdom she encounters a very powerful demon and during their battle the demon hits Asagi with a needle. Due to the extreme circumstances at the time she's in to big of a rush to find out if the needle was some sort of demonic poison (it's never mentioned if the needle was poison or something else entirely). Eventually Asagi and her sister are captured by the Ryuumon, an organization under the control of a cloned Oboro. The clone reveals that Taimanins have demon ancestry and that the Ryuumon want to use them to create an army of super soldiers(like Saya above). Of course this process involves repeated emotional and physical abuse, that of which cause Kage to awaken within Asagi. Asagi and Kage get off to rocky start but eventually Asagi realizes that she needs Kage's power to save Sakura and escape Tokyo Kingdom. During moments of severe duress Kage will appear before Asagi and offer her help.

  • The Berserker: Will relentlessly attack any and all of Asagi's opponents, even if they happen to be Asagi's brainwashed loved ones.
  • Black Eyes of Crazy
  • Chekhov's Gun: Her and Asagi have a brief conversation about Black's true goals that plays a part in the true ending to Asagi's route. Specifically, Black seeks to unite with Asagi's demonic half because their lineage of the same origins and they are attracted to one another in that sense like gravity. The twist is that while Kage isn't planning on helping Black should Asagi refuse to join him, neither will she object should Asagi decide to do so.
  • The Corruption: Odd case in which the corruption is the demonic lineage inherent to all Taimanin, Asagi just has a stronger grasp of it's potential benefits and downsides. The benefits are a massive power boost in all categories, and the downsides are that she could completely become her demonic half as well as a small chance of destroying her human body due to the stress letting Kage out puts on Asagi.
  • Cute Monster Girl: Even though her physical appearance is a demonic Asagi, she is still pretty hot. However, the appearance changes slightly between the second and third game, with the TA2 appearance depicted above, and the TA3 version has Asagi's skin turn a muted purple as well.
  • Depending on the Artist: Kage's physical appearance varies depending on the installment. Her TA2 appearance can be seen here on her profile image. Her design in TA3 is changed so that she has purple skin, and white hair with a violet tint.
  • Emotion Eater: The more Asagi sinks into despair, the stronger she will become. However, she will use that power to destroy the source of Asagi's despair.
  • Enemy Within: Somewhat subverted as Kage doesn't mean Asagi any harm and tells her she just another side of her, it's just Asagi constantly refusing the fact that causes fraction between the two.
  • Evil Counterpart: She is the manifestations of Asagi's hidden demonic powers. So naturally she is this for Asagi.
  • Expy: Seems to be one for Hollow Ichigo from Bleach. And to an extent, Yubel from Yu-Gi-Oh! GX.
  • Gone Horribly Right: Well the Oboro clone did want to turn Asagi into monster.
  • Sociopathic Hero: While she truly does want to act in Asagi's best interest, that only applies to keeping Asagi alive, she doesn't give a damn about Asagi's allies, innocent people, or anything else in the way Asagi doesn't want brutally murdered.
  • Slasher Smile
  • Split Personality Takeover: However, she can only takeover Asagi's body if Asagi allows it.
  • Super-Powered Evil Side: Serve as this for Asagi.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Kage truly does want to help Asagi defeat her opponents, but her methods tend to be a little extreme. This is usually why Asagi would normally refuse her help.
