The third instalment in the Tales of Arcadia trilogy, Wizards follows Hisirdoux Casperan, otherwise known as Douxie, apprentice to Merlin as he scrambles to gather allies to aid his master in preventing a magical apocalypse.
Tropes used in Wizards include:
- Aborted Arc: The Trolls' quest for a new Hearstone is given no follow up thanks to the Green Knight attacking them.
- Achilles Heel: The Green Knight's armor has Anti-Magic properties. His sword, Excalibur, does not.
- Adaptation Species Change: The Lady of the Lake is usually a spirit, a fairy, or a sorceress. Here she's a horrifying, one-eyed, multi-tentacled sea beast.
- Adaptational Villainy: Most versions of King Arthur are The Paragon. This King Arthur indulges in Fantastic Racism against all magical creatures, leading a genocidal crusade against them.
- Ambiguous Gender: Bellroc. They have an androgynous appearance with their voice shifting between male and female.
- Apathetic Citizens: With the third apocalypse, and occurring only a few days after the Alien Invasion, people of Arcadia really can't be bothered anymore.
- Ascended Extra: Douxie and Zoe.
- Came Back Wrong: King Arthur.
- Can't Kill You - Still Need You: The Arcane Order needs Narti back to open the Seals.
- Colony Drop: How Morgana kills Arthur.
- Cosmic Keystone: The Genesis Seals regulate how much magic flows across Earth. Break the Seals and magic will flood the Earth in such high quantities that it'll wash away all life.
- Deconstructed Trope: The show is not kind to the idea of a Leeroy Jenkins. Steve's fighting ability doesn't match up to his boasting and all his war-cries do is give away his position on the battlefield.
- Demoted to Extra: Toby, Blinky, Krel, and AAARRRGGHH!!!
- Enemy Mine: When Arthur is made to see reason, he seeks an alliance with the good Trolls against Gunmar.
- End of an Age: Morgana says that the age of those like her and Merlin has come to a close.
- Everyone Has Standards: While Morgana may have wanted to create a world where magical creatures dominated humanity, she didn't sign on for a complete planetary genocide.
- Extremely Short Timespan: Time Travel aside, the whole story can't take place over more than a day and a half.
- Fallen Hero: Expands on Gunmar's past as such, showing that he was once the protector of Trollkind, if an overzealous one, against Arthur's genocidal ambitions.
- Good Is Not Nice: Callista. Hero but knows every derogatory term for humans that there is and insults even her own kind at any opportunity.
- Hartman Hips: Callista.
- Heel Face Turn: Nari left the Arcane Order when she saw that they were shifting away from "keeping balance" to "making magic the ruling force."
- Humanoid Abomination: The Arcane Order. They don't seem to be Seklos and Gaylen level Physical Gods but rather more Anthropomorphic Personifications of magic.
- Hypocrite: Morgana calls Arthur out on leading the Anti-Magical Faction but using a magic sword.
- Immediate Sequel: Starts the second 3Below left off from.
- The Load: Steve is comprehensively useless to everyone who is unfortunate enough to be stuck with him.
- Killed Off for Real: Merlin and Morgana.
- Magitek: Krel combines Akiridion tech with the remains of the Heart of Avalon.
- The Man Behind the Man: The Arcane Order are revealed as Morgana's benefactors.
- Not Even Bothering with the Accent: Despite a good chunk of the series taking place in 12th century England, several past characters have the American accents that they have in the modern day.
- It's particularly egregious with Callista. She never lived to see America yet Stephanie Beatriz uses her New York-accented Rosa voice for the character.
- Not So Different:
- Claire and Morgana.
- Sir Lancelot and Steve. Lancelot is hinted to be Steve's ancestor but no clear answer is given.
- Reality Ensues:
- Steve's Leeroy Jenkins attitudes only serve to beat him up. Rushing in against experienced knights and warriors ends only in a Curb Stomp Battle in favour of the more experienced.
- Arthur/the Green Knight pulls a Redemption Rejection. After centuries in a mindset, a short conversation isn't enough to shake someone from it.
- Really Seven Hundred Years Old: Douxie is 900 years old.
- Redemption Equals Death: Morgana sacrifices herself to kill Arthur.
- Papa Wolf: Merlin loses it when the Green Knight and the Arcane Order threaten Douxie's life.
- Saved by Canon: All the characters from the 12th century are safe, given that Trollhunters showed them existing until the 21st.
- Sequel Goes Foreign: After two shows in a sleepy Californian town, this one largely takes place in England.
- Sequel Hook: The Arcane Order still hunts for Nari, something that will be resolved in Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans, the Grand Finale of the saga.
- Shout-Out:
- Steve ain't afraid of no creep.
- Merlin's death has some rather Thanosian overtones.
- So Proud of You: Merlin's Famous Last Words are him saying this to Douxie.
- Start of Darkness: History in the Making and Witch Hunt show how Morgana became who she was in Trollhunters.
- Dictatious is carried off by goblins at the Battle of Killahead setting up his falling in with Gunmar.
- Time Travel Tense Trouble: Claire struggles with this after the group arrives in the 12th century.
- Thinking Up Portals: Claire, and Morgana, can now do this directly without the Shadow Staff.
- Took a Level In Badass: The Shadow Staff's power has affected Claire to the point that she doesn't need it to conjure portals anymore.
- Took a Level In Kindness: He's still The Friend Nobody Likes, something Toby lampshades, but Merlin is a good deal kinder than he was in Trollhunters.
