Okay, here we have another hasty and invalid edit involving 'Return to Oz'. Here's the stated reason for the edit.
(Again, "Return to Oz" begets being compared to the 1939 movie. "It's a sequel" is NOT a valid reason for denying a comparison. You either compare "Return to Oz" to the 1939 movie, or don't bring up the subject at all.)
I have to ask: Who made the rule that any and all discussions of 'Return to Oz' MUST involve comparisons to the 1939 Wizard of Oz movie in order to be valid discussions? Who, other than the person who made that edit, feels that to be a rule that must not be violated?

It's an invalid reason to edit out the example. The example in question (which compared "Return to Oz", an adaptation of two sequels to 'The Wizard of Oz' - namely 'The Land of Oz' and 'Ozma of Oz' - to 'Journey Back to Oz', also an adaptation of 'The Land of Oz') is a perfectly valid example of this trope, 'Truer to the Text'. So it belongs on this page.

However, it bears repeating that 'Return to Oz' is not ... I repeat NOT (and will repeat it as often as necessary) an adaptation of 'The Wonderful Wizard of Oz'. So in the context of the tropes 'Truer to the Text' and 'Wilder Over Depp', comparing the two just doesn't work. There are plenty of places where comparing the 1939 Wizard of Oz classic film to 'Return to Oz' is valid, but these two trope pages are not those places.

In any case, disagreement over that is not a valid reason for removing examples, so I've put the example back. Chris Lang (talk) 02:52, November 26, 2019 (UTC)

Who made the rule? Popular culture., Casual conversation in real life. When was the last time ANYONE brought Journey Back to Oz in casual conversation? Who even knows about that movie? Really, the question that should be asked is "since when is there a rule that all conversations regarding Return to Oz must be Journey Back to Oz-related?".

This is a perfect example of Fan Myopia: just because YOU know about Journey Back to Oz doesn't mean the general public does. These examples are written for the general public, not for you and the three other people who knows about Journey Back to Oz.

I'm bringing back your changes just to avoid another shitstorm, like the one that happened over Newcomer Scrappy originally being named "The Captain Marvel". This issue is OVER.
