The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is a 2014 superhero film and a sequel to 2012's The Amazing Spider-Man. It had Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone returning as Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy with Jamie Foxx as Electro, Paul Giamatti as Rhino, Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn and Chris Cooper as Norman Osborn. The film got mixed reviews and didn't do well at the box office. It was supposed to be followed up by The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and a Sinister Six film but were cancelled in favor of having Tom Holland play Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
- Adaptational Heroism:
- Alistair Smythe is a mild jerk here, much unlike the supervillain of the comics.
- Max Dillon was a dick in the comics even before becoming Electro. Here, he's much nicer, if also less stable.
- Adaptational Villainy: Harry Osborn wasn’t as much a jerk as he was in this film, and is usually a sympathetic character. During his brief time as the Green Goblin, it was the result of some understandable Sanity Slippage brought on by his father’s death, and pulled a Heel Face Turn, while here he takes over Norman’s role as the Green Goblin and is a jerk even before that.
- Dr. Kafka is a caring psychologist who treats her patients with respect, unlike her male Mad Scientist counterpart.
- Big Bad Duumvirate: Harry Osborn and Electro.
- Character Exaggeration: Electro’s insanity takes over the entire character here.
- Death by Adaptation: Norman Osborn is a Type II, while Dr. Kafka and Electro are a Type I. Donald Menken is also killed in a deleted scene.
- Legion of Doom: Gustav Fiers makes a deal with Harry Osborn to create the Sinister Six.
- Lighter and Softer: The coloring is brighter than in the first film.
- Mythology Gag: Spidey's ringtone is the 1960s Spider-Man theme song. Spidey also whistles this as he webs up Rhino.
- Race Lift: Max Dillon/Electro is Black in this film.
- Stalker Without a Crush: Max Dillon, before becoming Electro.
- The Stinger: The theatrical release had a clip of X-Men: Days of Future Past.
- Truer to the Text: Spidey's outfit is more comic book accurate.
