The Downfall of Godzilla is a two-part crossover parody involving (as the title suggests) Downfall parodies and Godzilla himself (in this case, the film Shin Godzilla), by F-A Alexander.

The original version of the parody takes place 62 years after the events of the original Godzilla movie, and war is raging between Germany and the Soviet Union, with the Germans on the losing side. The Soviets are converging on Berlin and Hitler was advised to leave the bunker... an advise he bluntly rejects.

When Kamiko Island splits itself into smaller icebergs (destroying a Japanese trawler and an American submarine in the process), a second Godzilla comes out of it. Hitler, Fegelein, and Stalin are forced into a ceasefire and form an alliance to defeat Godzilla if they wish to survive.

The videos for the series (both on YouTube and Dailymotion) were eventually removed by the author, who later announced in the Facebook HRP group that the series was discontinued because "it was too depressing", and that "he′ll rework the series into something more cheerful and free from Toho′s banhammer".

In 2017, after the release of Shin Godzilla, Alexander revealed that the reworked series will be using that movie′s footage. The first part was released in January 26th, 2018, while the second part was released in February 13th that same year.

Tropes shared with other Downfall parodies and Godzilla media in general[]

The original parody series includes examples of...[]

The new parody series includes examples of...[]

  • Anti-Villain/Punch Clock Villain: Hitler′s general staff, and indeed the Wehrmacht, qualify as both. They′re just soldiers trying to do their job despite being hampered by Hitler himself. When he dies, all of them commit Heel-Face Turn, siding with Fegelein, and oust the Hitler cabinet from power.
  • Anyone Can Die/Killed Off for Real: The following characters die throughout the parody, in order: Weidling, Hitler, Mohnke, Grawitz′s family, Goebbels, and Magda.
  • The Atoner: Both Speer and Grawitz seek to atone for their part in creating Godzilla.
  • Big Damn Movie: Like other multi-part and story-based parodies, this parody is much bigger in scale and longer than most of Alexander′s other parodies, to the point that both parts when combined, have a total runtime of 53 minutes.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Godzilla is defeated by getting frozen, both Hitler and Goebbels die, the former′s cabinet gets overthrown, Himmler becomes the new Führer, and the Soviets′ invasion plan gets foiled, but many lives are lost and it′s then revealed that there are several humanoid Godzilla-like creatures growing from his tail...
  • The Cameo: Stalin is briefly shown talking to his adjutant, Nikolai Yezhov, about his plans to take over Germany if his stealth bombers succeed in killing Godzilla (which didn′t work).
  • Comic Book Movies Don't Use Codenames: Godzilla′s name was never mentioned by any of the characters, being simply referred to as a "monster" or a "creature".
  • Darker and Edgier: Despite Alexander′s promises of the new series being light-hearted, given its current source material, it wound up becoming this. This is especially made apparent and obvious with the lack of color, the rather intense choice of Recycled Soundtrack, characters getting killed off, among others.
  • Deliberately Monochrome: The entire parody is in black-and-white, as a reference to the original Godzilla film.
  • Dirty Communists: For starters, they intend to invade Germany should they manage to kill Godzilla.
  • Driven to Suicide/Pater Familicide: Hitler forces Grawitz to kill himself and his family, to which he complies, all to prevent the truth about Godzilla′s existence from becoming public. Near the end of the parody, Goebbels kills both Magda and himself.
  • The End - or Is It?: As with Shin Godzilla, the final shot reveals that several humanoid Godzilla-like creatures were growing from Godzilla′s tail.
  • Evil Versus Evil: Both Hitler, Godzilla, and Stalin are all portrayed as being equally villainous.
  • Genetic Engineering Is the New Nuke: Plus I Love Nuclear Power, equals Godzilla.
  • Hellish Copter: Godzilla shoots down Hitler′s helicopter when he tries to flee from Berlin.
  • Historical Villain Upgrade: Hitler goes from being a genocidal dictator to the man who was responsible for creating Godzilla.
  • Lack of Empathy: Hitler reacts to the loss of Wunderstadt and Grawitz′s pleas in the most sociopathic way possible, going as far as ordering the latter to commit Pater Familicide.
  • Recycled Soundtrack: The music is taken from other media such as Alien: Covenant, Fury, Christopher Nolan′s Dunkirk, and Call of Duty: World at War, among others. Interestingly, it wasn′t until the end of the parody that Godzilla′s theme is even used.
  • Weapons Understudies: The Wehrmacht is shown using JSDF and US military vehicles. And in the second part, the Soviets are seen using B-2 Spirit stealth bombers in a failed attempt to kill Godzilla.
