The Dragon Queen is a now-defunct 2010 webcomic by Julie Konopka. It follows the adventures of Dragon Queen, a transvestite superhero in Harbor City. The webcomic suddenly went from dramatic storyline-based to Gag A Day in February 2011 and then vanished off of the web later in the year.
Tropes used in The Dragon Queen include:
- And Knowing Is Half the Battle: Transgender Tips: A guide to how to pick up transsexuals, delivered courtesy of Dragon Queen randomly showing up in a guy's living room.
Jimmy: "Geez! I'm bored and I'm kind of horny. Maybe I should go online and try to pick up a hot she-male." |
- BadassGrandma: The new security guard.
- Boobs of Steel: Well, boobs of gel enclosed in bullet-resistant polymers, which are apparently sufficient to stop bullets as well as a bulletproof vest.
- Bottomless Magazines: Averted.
- Combat Stilettos: Part of Dragon Queen's costume.
- Femme Fatalons: Sported by the demon in this strip.
- Harmless Freezing: Noted to only be possible due to the character's powers.
- Leotard of Power: Another part of Dragon Queen's costume.
- Old Retainer: Roderick Pennywise has been Bradley's guardian since his parents died.
- Reverse Cerebus Syndrome: Invoked by the author in March 2011 for unspecified reasons mid-storyline.
- Samaritan Syndrome: Dragon Queen can't even finish an interview without having to head out to fight giant robotic wasps.
- Secret Public Identity: Bradley doesn't bother hiding the fact that he's the same person as Dragon Queen.
- Self-Made Orphan: One of the interpretations of what is known about his origin.
- Stupid Sexy Flanders: Bradley's caretaker finds it unnerving that his young ward is so attractive when dressed in drag.
- Super-Hero Origin: Left somewhat vague. All that we know is that Brandon was somehow empowered in an event involving him being in the middle of a hermetic rune circle with a bloody knife in his hands, mourning the death of his parents and shouting, "I'm sorry! Please stay!"
- Super Strength: So far restricted to a single lifting of a car using both hands off-screen.
- Transsexualism / Crossdresser / Drag Queen: It's left a bit ambiguous as to where Bradley/Brandywine stands. He definitely crossdresses and in his origin arc, it's shown that he started crossdressing while doing a Drag Queen show. He's often shown topless and it doesn't look like any surgery or horomone treatment has been done affecting his upper body. On the other hand, her caretaker later refers to "Bradley" as "her given name", indicating that Bradley now considers himself to be Brandywine, and in neither identity does he choose to try to pass.
- Winged Humanoid: Part of Dragon Queen's powerset is a set of leathery bulletproof bat wings.
- Wreathed in Flames: Another part of Dragon Queen's powerset, invoked at will.
