Cquote1

Twilight bit her lip and sighed. "Megan... you've been to Equestria before, haven't you." She chuckled nervously and looked away. "It was your reactions to everything around you, as if you've seen them before, and they changed."

Cquote2

When unusual circumstances breach a hole through space, the Mane Six accidentally reach into a different world. This leads them to encounter a "human" called Megan, along with her family - but as the story progresses, it becomes clear that Megan's not only been to Equestria before, but may well have played a central role in its History. And her role might not be over yet...

The Elements of Harmony and the Savior of Worlds is a crossover between My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic and the original, G1 My Little Pony. It interprets the new series as being set in the distant future of the original, and examines how "Dream Valley" could eventually become "Equestria".

As the work expanded, the fictional universe brought in The Transformers and G.I. Joe.

Needs More Love

Tropes used in The Elements of Harmony and the Savior of Worlds include:
  • Adaptational Villainy: Discord. As the author wasn't a fan of Discord's redemption arc, they chose to amp up his villainous Season 2 persona.
  • Alternate Continuity: The plot diverges from canon sometime shortly after "Owl's Well That Ends Well".
  • America Saves the Day: Pointedly averted thanks to the author's dislike of this trope. The day is saved thanks to a global effort. Since the danger was in Kentucky, the American military simply got there first.
  • Ambiguously Gay: Caramel and Blues Noteworthy.
  • Anti-Climactic Unmasking: Cobra Commander only has a regular human face beneath his mask.
  • Anti-Magic: The TARDIS proves able to shield its occupants from Discord's chaos.
  • Asskicking Equals Authority: Becoming king of the dragon clans requires, among other things, a Klingon Promotion.
  • Badass: As the story likes to remind us, Megan's first visit to the ponies' world involved her standing up to, and defeating, Tirac himself.
    • King Spykoran the Old is also very much this. Being a dragon helps.
      • How badass is he? When his dramatic entrance scares a bunch of ponies, Fluttershy gets mad and tries to use The Stare on him... and it doesn't work.
  • Badass Boast: President Abernathy tells TCB!Celestia that Humans Are Warriors in no uncertain terms and that they will hand her her own plot.
  • Badass Bandolier:
    • Megan wears one on her visits to Equestria, except at the Grand Galloping Gala
    • Big Macintosh wears one with grenades during the attack on Ponyville.
  • Body Horror: Discord's influence causes Doctor Whooves' body to horribly mutate, his face forming into a gestalt of all his previous selves (from William Hartnell to Jodie Whittaker with the inclusion of Peter Cushing).
  • Call Forward: In the final chapter of The Conversion Bureau: United we Stand, Starscream is clearly laying the foundations for the Predacon Alliance seen in Beast Wars.
  • Canon Welding:
    • Places the original MLP show in the new one's ancient past.
    • The Conversion Bureau's Equestria invaded a variant of the Transformers Shattered Glass timeline.
  • Canon Dis Continuity: The introductory author's note for "Chaos Runs Rampant" politely asks readers to ignore the MLP comics, specifically anything related to Discord's backstory.
  • Canon Welding: Sets all of the 1980's Hasbro properties on the same Earth.
  • Can't Kill You - Still Need You: When the Conversion Bureau arrives on Earth, Starscream offers several powerful Decepticons as troops to bolster the EDC forces. The Autobot High Council is quick to agree to his terms knowing there isn't much Starscream can do if he double crosses them.
  • Curb Stomp Battle: COBRA can't even scratch a single Decepticon.
  • Cuddle Bug: When the Autobots arrive to fight the Conversion Bureau, Hot Rod lifts Marissa Faireborn off the ground and hugs her, much to her embarrassment.
  • Cuteness Proximity: Megan has two daughters. Twilight is a talking pony. Megan warns her to expect this.
  • Darker and Edgier: Quite a bit darker than MLP canon, Discord in particular.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Megatron orders COBRA utterly destroyed (even calling in Decepticon forces from across the galaxy) for causing minor vibrational damage that resulted in a few Energon cubes being turned unstable.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: The ponies in Canterlot and Ponyville freaking out over "The Mag'ne"'s return.
  • Evil vs. Evil: Decepticons vs COBRA. Decepticons win.
  • Eviler Than Thou: Megatron to Serpentor.
  • Fantastic Racism:
    • Spykoran's hatred of the Ursas borders on this, though it's justified by them having apparently killed his family excluding his grandson's (Spike) egg in a previous raid on dragon lands.
    • Megatron, as usual, looks down on organic life.
  • Fingerless Gloves: Megan wore a pair in her first visit to Equestira. Danny also wears them since he pushes the wheels of his wheelchair.
  • First Contact: Technically not the first, but there are hints that Equestria and Earth are headed this way. Though in Earth's case, they already had a first contact of a different kind...
  • Generation Xerox: Not identical, but Megan is nevertheless stunned by Spike and Applejack.
    • Spike's case is justified by being G1 Spike's grandson.
  • Happily Married: Megan and her husband.
  • Has Two Mommies: The Princess Ponies created Celestia and Luna, and as such, the latter two view all six as their mothers.
  • Heel Realization: Trixie had one in a flashback — after she was run out of town following the Ursa Minor incident, she initially swore revenge on Twilight for upstaging her. Then she caught a reflection of herself in a puddle and saw how twisted by anger she was. This scared her straight.
  • Historical Hero Upgrade: In-Universe example. In the original show, Megan was The Hero. Fifteen centuries of myths have spun her into the "Mag'ne", a quasi-divine figure.
  • How the Mighty Have Fallen: The post-2007 era has not been kind to the Decepticons.
  • Informed Ability: Megan Richards is described as a successful author. Then we get a brief look at My Little Horsey in chapter 16.
    • Specifically, we're shown the first paragraph or so, and it is a fairly accurate depiction of books written with young children in mind, and Megan does outright say that My Little Horsey is a series of children's books; books that target audiences that young, however, are rarely bestsellers, a status that Megan also claims the series holds. This is not necessarily a contradiction; her books could well be a best-selling children's series, rather than a general best-selling series, but it still could have been expressed better.
  • Journey to the Center of the Mind: Megan and Morning Glory's family perform this on her with Twilight's help.
  • Klingon Promotion:
    • How one becomes king of the dragons. One must also give up one's hoard, however, resulting in more selflessness than this trope usually involves.
    • Averted for Starscream. Galvatron's sanity just degraded to the point that all Starscream had to do was say he was a sane Decepticon leader and most of them flocked to him.
  • Know When to Fold'Em: Starscream does. Galvatron doesn't.
  • Lady in Red: Megan wears a red dress for the party.
  • The Masquerade: Quickly defied. Megan briefly panics when she realizes Equestria's radio stations are unwittingly broadcasting through the portal, but Twilight doesn't really see the problem with mankind discovering the ponies' existence.
  • Mega Crossover: Not as such, but there are a few moments that show the Earth Megan comes from, besides being the one of the 80s' My Little Pony, is also the Earth of Jem and that era's Transformers and G.I. Joe - Word of God has called it "Hasbro Earth".
  • Mind Rape: During his original rampage, Discord performed a particularly brutal one on Morning Glory that left her almost completely unresponsive to those around her. And due to Rosedust isolating the Flutter Ponies after what happened she's been that way for thirteen centuries. Fortunately, with Twilight Sparkle's help, Megan, Sparkling Dawn (Morning Glory's husband), and Blazing Day (her son), were able to break her out of it.
  • Mythology Gag:
  • Narnia Time: For Megan and her siblings, it's been about two decades since the events of the old show. For Celestia, Luna, and any G1 character who's still alive, it's been around fifteen centuries.
  • Never Got to Say Goodbye: Megan and the original G1 ponies.
  • No Indoor Voice: Princess Luna's traditional royal Canterlot voice is in full effect. Luckily, she tends to only use it to get ponies' attention and to announce things to groups of ponies. Otherwise, she speaks using her normal voice. She will however switch between the two without warning, which catches ponies and humans alike off guard.
  • Parental Substitute: Megan and her siblings, to Celestia and Luna (having raised them as fillies at the behest of the Princess Ponies).
  • Pony Popsicle: In this fic's 'verse, Princess Platinum did not unthaw and is still bound in ice.
  • Reality Ensues: As Cobra Commander lampshades, the Autobots have been working with all of Earth's militaries to try and breach the defences surrounding the Victory and they've all failed meaning it's all but impossible that COBRA could have done it on their own. He's very right.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Celestia, Luna, King Spykoran, President Abernathy, Russian Premier Ivan Brekhov, Optimus Prime, Ultra Magnus, heck even Starscream is more or less fair (though still opportunistic and self serving) in his decisions.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: Applejack goes on one when she thinks the green dragon has murdered Twilight, Spike and Rainbow Dash. Thankfully she is stopped — by Stephen Magnet, of all people — before she gets herself killed.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Upon being informed that Serpentor has attacked the Decepticons, Cobra Commander grabs a duffel bag filled with cash and the paperwork needed to blend back into society and hightails it away.
  • Shipper on Deck: Mike (Megan's husband) and Applejack are trying to hook up Big Macintosh and Fluttershy. AJ claims she's actually been trying to do this for awhile, but has been hampered by Fluttershy's shyness and Big Mac not feeling that he's good enough for her.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Shrouded in Myth: Megan became, in Pony Mythology, the messianic Mag'ne, and we humans became the divine Herd.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Shockwave, Windcharger and Wheeljack are all alive in this timeline.
  • Spit Take: Celestia's reaction to receiving Twilight's letter about Megan. Luna has almost the exact same reaction and does it right into Celestia's face.
  • Start of Darkness: When Luna is explaining her transformation into Nightmare Moon, we get a flashback showing how it happened.
  • Too Dumb to Live: In story form. While Cobra Commander realized what a monstrously bad idea it was to try and fight Megatron, Serpentor didn't and sent a squad to destroy the Victory. Not only did they all die but Megatron was so pissed at them destroying a few of his Energon cubes that he utterly annihilated COBRA in retaliation.
  • Took a Level In Badass: He was already showing signs of this in the original show, but G1 Spike (the dragon, not the human) has come a long way indeed.
  • Year Inside, Hour Outside: Megan's spent twenty years on Earth. When she returns to Equestria, it's been fifteen centuries from the ponies' perspective.
