"And thus The Clan is formed.... |
"Welcome to the Clan. Leave your sanity at the door."
—Traditional greeting to new authors or followers of the EC.
|
"Also, bring along your inner child/nerd/whatever. Otherwise, the average ambient level of silliness is likely to cause Epic Nerd Rage. Yes, we know Beast's Lair doesn't like us or our "work". At all. No, we don't care in the slightest. Why? Because we're too busy having fun!"
—Occasional greeting follow-up.

The Emiya Clan is a series of collaborative forums posts made by members of the The Mechanics of In Flight, a forum set up by author Gabriel Blessing for the purpose of discussing his works The Hill of Swords and In Flight
The madness began in the forums "TFF Omakes" thread. Although the thread was mostly devoted to humorous outtakes, eventually a few people began inserting a few romantic snippets which included Miya, Saber and Rin (once they had "returned"). GB himself wrote his non-canon (so far) Good End for the story.
Then one day, user Silver_Sun17 wrote a prompt that suggested Kazehana bringing Aoko Aozaki to Izumo House... which resulted in a short snippet that had both Aoko and Touko both waking up drunk in Shirou's bed, demanding that he "take responsibility." (Alternate version with additional content.)
It... sort of exploded from there.
At the most recent count, the Clan currently numbers roughly 24 wives, including Sekirei, Heroic Spirits, Magi, and at least one personification of God. There are also at least 29 children.
The Clan runs on the assumption that every fictional universe exists somewhere, often through Rule of Cool, Time Travel Hijinks, and The BAR.
We just say Zelretch planned everything.
Many of the forum posts have been collected in the FF.net community, In Flight Omakes for easier reading.
As of March 19th, 2012, the chronicler of the Emiya Clan, Benbladesman, finished his arduously worked on index of all relevant stories on the forums up until that date. It is here. It is sorted by thread and author and very long, but is very helpful in getting those who want to jump in oriented without trawling trough several threads worth of posts.
See Fate/stay night and Sekirei for the tropes of those respective universes. And see In Flight for the tropes from Gabriel Blessing's original work.
The Emiya Clan in general contains examples of:[]
- Adaptational Retired Badass: In the original Lyrical Nanoha/Triangle Heart 3 canon, Momoko Takamachi has no notable past aside being the mother of the protagonists. Here however, she was Shirou Fuwa's partner and fought alongside him. Her also being a Badass was partly inspired by the Fanfic Blood That Flows.
- Adults Are Useless: Not only averted, but completely stomped flat. Even though EC is all about the kids, every single one of the parents retains their badassery if they had it, or have taken a level in badass at some point in the Clan's past. And not a single one of the parents will hesitate for a moment to help their children.
- Case in point: Touma's past-reveal arc, the Clan's reaction, and the Clan's retaliation. Badass Family indeed.
- Alternate Universe Fic: Has spawned two fics depicting alternate Fifth Holy Grail Wars. One has Shiro's kids replace all the canon Servants. The other has Miya from this timeline being summoned as Servant Saber under Sakura Matou, Kasabura from an alternate timeline where she was one of Shirou's Seikirei as Servant Assassin under Souichirou, Louise Françoise le Blanc de la Vallière, Duchess of Emptiness, as Servant Caster under Shiro, Tabitha as Servant Rider under Luvia, and Arthuria as Berserker under Illya.
- Badass Family: Something of a given.
- Berserk Button: Several of them. Pushing them will bring the wrath of the entire Clan on you.
- Don't believe this troper? Check the spoiler for Adults Are Useless above.
- Beware the Nice Ones: Chiyo
- Big Fancy House
- Butt Monkey: Lancer, duh.
- Children Are Innocent: Subverted with most of the children.
- Code Emergency: A lot of these due to the family being Crazy Prepared. Ranging from simple "A kid is in trouble" to a specific "Karin let a three-story mecha loose"
- Cosmic Plaything: The Root and Zelretch enjoy doing this to the Clan members.
- The Clan: Also a given.
- Crack Fic: How it all began...
- Crossover Ship: Over half the children being Sekirei + Zelretch seems to result in this.
- Decoy Leader: Shirou now controls MBI, but as far as the world knows it's his mother who is still in control of the company.
- The Dreaded: After an incident with a trans-dimensional entity (Lily) and the blue-haired red-eyed clone teenager who came with it (Rei), the Emiya Clan sees her and the other Ree as this. Mentioning one or using their distinctive vocal greeting is bound to trigger a Mass "Oh Crap" moment from anybody in hearing distance.
"Heee~ey." |
- Eldritch Location: The basement. Going down there is equivalent to an epic dungeon crawler.
- Elemental Powers: Many of the Half-Sekirei children, plus a few others.
- Father I Want to Marry My Sister: Karin to Keiko. Shirou is not amused.
- Friend to All Children: One of the Clan's collective Berserk Buttons.
- Fluffy the Terrible: Primate Murder aka. Primmy
- Generation Xerox: Attempts were made to subvert this, although it still happened.
- Happily Married: ...and how!
- Harem Hero: Most of the Clan members are either Harem Heroes or parts of a Harem Hero's harem.
- Has Two Mommies: Aside from the obvious everybody having over two dozen mothers, certain children claim two specific women as their mothers: Saber/Arturia and Rin for Arika, Musubi and Yume for Shinta, Caster/Medea and Saber/Arturia for Ulf. Aleksi also calls Rin and Luvia "Mommy"...in Finnish.
- In-Series Nickname: Nanoha is called BeamSpam-chan by The Clan. Her father and mother were respectively known as the Heaven's Blade and the Demon Flash.
- In the Blood
- Loads and Loads of Characters: It goes without saying....
- Massive Numbered Siblings
- Masquerade: Partially due to the Mega Crossover nature, the Clan has a lot of enemies. As a result, they try to keep a low profile. They don't always succeed.
- Mega Crossover: Aside from the obvious FSN/Sekirei, the "main" ones seem to be Mahou Sensei Negima, Lyrical Nanoha, Ranma ½ , Rosario to Vampire, and Suzumiya Haruhi. Which doesn't include all the various one-shots and side-mentions.[1]
- Notably, Kyon (Haruhi) and Chisame (Negima) have had their backstories altered to where they are members of the Clan.
- Word of God from the author of Devil's Wings storyline states that the corpse of Lelouch vi Britannia will play a role in the story's future.
- The Christmas Party takes this Up to Eleven.
- The Medic: Chiho and Chiyo
- More Dakka: Keiko, obviously, but a great deal of Clan members utilize this with their magic as well.
- The Movie Buff: Gil takes Star Wars and Lord of the Rings very seriously. He quotes the latter throughout the Christmas party, in narmtastic ways.
- My Name Is Not Durwood: More of a meta-example. The authors constantly mix up the names of Riko, Eiko, Reiko, and Keiko, with the last two being the most common mistakes.
- Oh Crap There Are Fanfics of Us: Not a fanfic, but Haru has copies of the Ranma ½ manga, which Ryoga is the first to learn about.
- Only Sane Man: Kyon and Chisame normally fulfill this role. During the Christmas Party, Haru and Gilgamesh join them to form the Fellowship of the Sane.
- Our Vampires Are Different: Haru is one-quarter Dead Apostle.
- Polyamory: Not just Shirou Emiya, but Shiki Nanaya/Tohno is also said to be in a similar relationship with his harem.
- Running Gag: Reiko/Eiko's sneezes and Kiri's attempts to cook.
- Kaien continually Tempting Fate
- Touma has an unhealthy desire to invite his siblings into a threesome with him and his girlfriend/wife.
- He goes a bit too far when he tries springing this on his teacher, Mana. She quickly corrects this mistake by kicking him straight into a wall.
- Kiri and Artemis acting Like an Old Married Couple. Amounts to no end of the level of Ship Tease.
- Shirou getting into heated rivalries with other alpha male characters. Shiki Tohno, Nagi Springfield, etc...
- Set Right What Once Went Wrong: DA!Haru's whole motivation was to prevent a future where the entire Clan splintered apart into factional infighting and took the world down with it. Once he succeeds, he more or less disappears except for popping up now and then to annoy his younger self.
- Subverted for Eiko, who simply wanted to take a vacation from the grim future she had been living in. However once she had traveled back, her interactions with her old family and younger self had changed her future so much she could not easily return... not that she minded very much.
- Shared Universe: Due to being a multiple author work.
- Shotgun Wedding: Shirou originally. Happens to Haru and Moka during the Christmas party climax.
- Shout-Out: Part of the Mega Crossover of the Chirstmas Party, Servant Shirou, Dante and Rock are watching The Christmas Bowl
- Small Girl, Big Gun: Keiko in spades.
- Strength Equals Worthiness: Homura and Tsukiumi have doubts that martial arts have a place when their family already has superhuman abilities, so they challenge Ranma and Ryoga to a fight. The latter two lose, but just barely.
- Supercop: Motoko Kusanagi takes this role in Shin Tokyo. She doesn't like it very much, since she has basically been handed the job of fixing whatever the EC decides to screw up in their spare time, but she preforms it admirably nonetheless.
- Super Weight: Has a rather complex one due to all the characters.
- Superpowerful Genetics
- Superpower Lottery: Some of the kids got their parents' skills equally, some got very watered-down versions, some hit the jackpot.
- Team Pet: Primate Murder, complete with Sleep Mode Size
- Tenchi Solution: Like Happily Married, just Up to Eleven.
- Thicker Than Water
- Token Evil Teammate: Mana
- The Tokyo Fireball: Happens regularly. Most notably during the Christmas incident.
- Unwanted Harem: Not only the original Clan's origins, but some of the children also have managed to scrape this together because of their own crossovers.
- Wacky Racing: Emiya Clan Grand Prix. With the three organisers being AU!Illya, Zelretch and Araya Souren, you KNOW where this is going.
- Weirdness Magnet
Clan Wars[]
Black Zero[]
- The Berserker: Kiri replaces Lancelot as the Berserker class in the 4th Holy Grail War.
- Heroic BSOD: Kiri, when he finally return to the Throne of Heroes after his participation in an alternate 5th Holy Grail War.
Devil's Wings[]
First Draft on FF.net, and the rewrite.
Main Character: Shinta Emiya
Synopsis: Shinta follows an unknown, suddenly-appeared source of prana out of the Uminari University Library, while Chiho and Rin are checking out a case at the university's hospital. Of course he finds trouble.
Crossover: Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha
- Combination Attack: Word of God says that Shinta and Nanoha will create several for themselves, in the style of Super Robot Wars to boot.
- Happily Adopted: Word of God also states that Yukari Sahashi will adopt Hayate and her Knights at the end of A's. The snowball effect between these two personalities is inevitable.
- Puppy Love: Kind of expected, putting the half-Sekirei son of an infamous Eroge Protagonist in the same airspace as a very-differently-famous Magical Girl. Said magical girl's usual acquaintances simply confuse the matter further.
Fate School Days[]
Harry Potter and the Winging of Aya[]
- Clingy Jealous Girl: Aya displays some of this during one of the omakes
- Kangaroo Court: Played straight at first, thankfully averted due to the arrival of Shirou, Aya and Lorelei
- Mama Bear: Tsukiumi. Upon noticing Harry for the first time, she attacked him.
- "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Delivered by Loreleir Barthomeloi to the court, particularly Fudge and Umbridge
Rosario+Fate[]
- Unwanted Harem: Haru got one, just like his father.
Blood+ Emiya[]
Main Character: Johnathan 'Jun' Emiya
Synopsis: Jun is signed up for a student exchange program as a prank by Riko. He ends up going to Koza high school, Okinawa where he gets involved in strange movements from vampires, a secret organization and even the U.S army
Crossover: Blood +
- Booby Trap: Kevin Mcallister + magic= Jun's house
- New Transfer Student: How the whole thing started off.
- Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: The first chiropteran by Jun. The second by Saya
- Heroic BSOD: Saya has one sometime after the second chiropteran.
- Interspecies Romance: Based on a entry for Emiya Clan Grand Prix, Jun will enter a relationship with Diva. Which makes it ironic, since his mother hates vampires
- Our Vampires Are Different: The different types existing in the EC are even mentioned here.
A Season for Lunacy[]
Main Character: The Entire Clan, but specifically the Fellowship of the Sane
Synopsis: Altrouge Brunestud-Emiya has decided to host this year's Christmas party, and invites everyone. Even that other clan, the Tohnos. Why? Because she wants to show up her sister Arcueid (and win a candy bet). And also to get Shirou and Shiki to stop trying to stab each other to death every time either man is within a hundred meters of the other. Meanwhile, four heroes (really, four people who don't want to drown in the inevitably-oncoming onslaught of insanity) try to break free of the trap.
Hilarity Ensues Up to Eleven and Beyond the Impossible, because Rule of Funny. Attempting to take this fic seriously will make Your Head Asplode.
Crossover: Too many to list
- A Wizard Did It: Played Straight and Lampshaded
Shiki: "And how are we alive?" |
- Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking: Invoked when Keiko gets her hands on the God/Burning Gundam.
Keiko: "I AM AWESOME! I AM ALMIGHTY! I AM OMNIPOTENT! I AM GOING TO DESTROY CANADA!" |
- All Just a Dream: You didn't really think that The Fellowship of the Sane was really going to escape did you?
- Awkward Mother Daughter Bonding Activity: Sakura teaching Sakuya and Erika S&M play, Bazett and Ivone going Braveheart on the Bacon Crusaders, Touko and Souhiro experimenting on random guests...
- Bedmate Reveal: Happened to Kiri and Artemis after a night in Vegas. Immediately followed by...
- Let Us Never Speak of This Again: "Don't you know where we are? This is Vegas, and what happens in Vegas—""Stays in Vegas"
- Church Militant: The crusaders of The Holy Empire of Bacannia embody this as a way of life.
- Cool Versus Awesome: Eggong Ragnaros versus Yarn Kraken with Keiko curbstomping them both with the Burning Gundam, Chuck Norris versus Santa Claus, George W. Bush versus Vladimir Putin.
- Eleventh-Hour Ranger: Chuck Norris shows up when everything's gone to Hell and offers to help fix it all. Apparently, even he can't overcome the insanity and ends up brawling with Santa Claus in Detroit.
- Failure Is the Only Option: Trying to get out. That certainly means that you can't try.
- Foe Yay: When everyone goes crazy, Rin and Luvia have sex.
- Game Show: Zelretch, Illya, Minaka, and Araya Souren pit Clan Emiya versus Clan Tohno in one of the most screwed up ones of all time.
- Go-Karting with Bowser: While everything is going straight to hell, Mikiya plays poker with Araya, Rock and Gendo Ikari, who dimension hopped to evade a party at NERV with the same level of insanity.
- It Got Worse: This sums up the Christmas Party in itself.
- Kill Sat: Zelretch has one in orbit. It functions as a railgun in the shape of a giant yellow smiley face.
- Personality Swap: Due to a pranks gone wrong, many of the Clan's personality were reversed.
- Putting the Band Back Together: AU!Illya blackmails Eiko, DA!Haru, and BK!Kiri to form the !A Us. Subverted in that they weren't actually together to begin with, but all had played instruments at one point.
- Santa Claus: Definitely not how the stories make him out to be. Oh, and stay away from the reindeer, they're carnivorous.
- Screw the Rules, I Make Them : Alaya-ko takes advantage of all the chaos to come down and have some fun with Shirou.
- She Is All Grown Up: Shirou gets this when he sees Alter!Illya for the first time. Subverted in that she's from a different reality...with highly disturbing implications.
- Shotacon: A personality shifting potion causes Aoko to temporarily regress to this.
- The Reveal: Of Gil's girlfriend Caren Ortesia.
- They Killed Kenny: Like most of the Nasuverse Lancer gets this shoved upon him for the duration of the game show. It gets to the point where Illya and Zelretch are summoning him just to see how many ways they can make him suffer.
- Thoroughly Mistaken Identity: Miya mistakes Tamaki for her son Takeshi even they look nothing alike. It's made worse by the fact that at that moment she's trying to kill Takeshi for having his first time with his ashikabi Haruhi Fujioka.
- Troll: Zelretch and AU!Illya. Oh so much so.
- Undesirable Prize: For Minaka at the end of the Game Show that is.
- Up to Eleven: This story cranks the Clan's insanity level up to eleven, way pass it and straight to Beyond the Impossible.
Paradox Sun[]
Main Character: Touma Emiya, Reiko Emiya
Synopsis: Touma and Reiko accidentally fall into another world where a war rages across the earth. Reiko is taken prisoner by one side, and Touma is enlisted by the other. Both must cope with the realities of their new life, try and find a way to bring themselves home together, and above all, keep their spirits from breaking under the weight of war.
Crossover: Valkyria Chronicles
- Another Dimension: The VC!Verse
- The Brigadier: Captain Varrot fills this role, since most of the high command are non entity assholes.
- Camp Lesbian: Dallas, and boy does she express it.
- The Captain: Eleanor Varrot: She's even willing to put up with Touma calling her Auntie.
- Cold-Blooded Torture: What Reiko has to go through at the hands of Clementia Forster
- Cold Sniper: Marina Wulfstan
- Dark and Troubled Past: Those around Touma and Reiko keep finding out pieces of this.
- Drill Sergeant Nasty: Rodriguez, but even he has problems breaking Third Platoon.
- Falling Into Command: Touma is given command over a third of the squad as a platoon leader before they head off into combat. Subverted in that he actually has combat experience and training thanks to his siblings.
- Fantastic Racism: Prevalent against Darcsens. Touma's unwillingness to listen to it is what endears him to them.
- Father to His Men: Most of the main Gallian officers. Touma most of all.
- General Ripper: The Gallian High Command when it comes to the Militia. Most of the Imperials.
- The Heart: Freesia
- Heavy Sleeper: Touma.
- Sleepwalking: Touma is such a heavy sleeper that one time, he walks around the training field, then back to the barracks and no one knows. And how does his squadmates find out? For the male, it's the case mentionned above. For the female, Touma snucks into their room, climb up and hugged Marina.
- The Lancer: Vyse, from Skies of Arcadia fame, acts as Touma's second in command.
- Like an Old Married Couple: Marina describes Welkin and Alicia's interactions as this. And according to Touma, so does Kiri and Artemis.
- Manipulative Bastard: Maximilian, very much so.
- Mildly Military: The entire Militia, but Touma and Third Platoon most of all.
- More Expendable Than You: Touma towards both his men and the other NC Os he serves with.
- The Nicknamer: Touma gives pretty much everyone in his command, plus the other officers, some rather silly nicknames that he calls them by outside of comabt.
- Only Sane Man: Aika and Karl, both of whom got roped into Third by virtue of being connected to one of the problem children of the squad (who were purposefully shoved into Third).
- Person of Mass Destruction: Selvaria and Reiko.
- Reasonable Authority Figure: Captain Varrot and Lieutenant Gunther for the Gallians. Selvaria Bles and Radi Jaegar for the Imperials (mainly Reiko).
- Red Baron: Johann is apparently well known as "The Iron" for feats before the story. Touma eventually becomes known as "The Gallian Ghost"
- Sergeant Rock: Largo and Ghost!Touma.
- Shell-Shocked Veteran: Everyone, sooner or later, if they survive.
- Shipper on Deck: Reiko is trying to play matchmaking for Selvaria and Johann.
- Split Personality: Touma and "The Ghost"
- Stockholm Syndrome: Reiko toward Selvaria and Johann.
- The Stoic: Nils and Marina. Ghost!Touma as well.
- Team Mom: Alicia
- Team Dad: Welkin
- Undying Loyalty: Touma to the squad. Reiko to the only two people she actually likes on the Imperial side.
- War Is Hell: It just gets worse and worse as you go on.
