Eobard Thawne[]
- Arch Enemy: By far Barry's most personal and despised enemey. Barry hates Thawne for killing his mother and screwing with his life while Thawne hates Barry for being better with him and thwarting his plans.
- Adaptational Heroism: This version of Thawne has a great deal more redeeming qualities than his comics couterpart who is incapable of feeling affection for anyone besides himself. Here he comes to genuinely care about Team Flash even if he'd still kill them if he had to. Also his intention as "Harrison Wells" is merely to return home rather than screw with Barry's life. As the show goes on this is subverted as he comes to more closely resemble the original Thawne.
- Blackmail: When Thawne fires Hartley he makes sure Hartley can't tell anyone about the reason why by threatening to use his power to ruin Hartley's life and make sure he never has a succesfull career in physics.
- Benevolent Boss: He was a stern but fair boss to his employees at Star Labs as long as they didn't threaten his plans. When Hartley learned the accelerator was going to expolde Thawne sent him packing.
- Even Evil Has Loved Ones
- Despite initially using the Star Labs team he did grow genuinely fond of them. He admits to loving both Barry and Cisco as sons and honestly cares about Caitlin too. With that said he is still willing to sacrifice any of them for his plans.
- Played straight as there are people in the future he cares about which is why he's so desperate to get home.
- Thawne seems genuinely fond of Grodd and orders Eiling to stop torturing him in flashbacks. Grodd even refers to him as "father".
- Similar to Cisco and Barry Thawne grew attached to Nora despite originally merely intending to use her and offers her a way to survive by taking refuge in the negative speed force.
- Evil Is Petty
- When Future Flash stopped him from killing a younger Barry he murdered Nora out of raw spite.
- In "Doomworld" he uses the spear of Destiny to make most of the Legends his underlings and screw with their lives.
- He joins Dark Arrow and Overgirl in their plan to take over the Multiverse not out of support for their idealology but just so he can continue being a dick to Barry Allen.
- I Did What I Had to Do: His justification for using Girder as a tool against Blackout.
- It's All About Me
- Even after growing fond of Nora he sacrifices her to save himself from execution.
- Thawne never forgets to remind Team Flash how much he did for them even though his actions ruined their reputations and killed Caitlin's fiance.
- Jerkass: When not putting on act he is a dick to both his enemies and supposed allies.
- Kick the Dog: He murdered the real Wells and his wife just so he could take his identity.
- Murder Is the Best Solution: His go to solution to a problem is to kill. It backfires when he murders Mason Bridge and ends up cluing Barry in to his true nature.
- Narcissist; Thawne is a massive egotist who sees everyone as beneath him and has spent years ruining Barry's life out of unjustified resentment. In "Doomworld" he quite evidently enjoys the praise his world's version of Nate gives him.
- Pragmatic Villainy: What most of his actions In Season 1 are based on. He has no desire to help others but he needs the Flash to get fast to get back to his time.
- Pet The Dog
- In "The Nuclear Man" he delays his plans to save Ronnie's life. This might be Pragmatic Villainy as he needed Caitlin and the others to trust him for his plan to work.
- In "The Sound and The Fury" he tells Cisco how incredibly valauble he is, explaining that while he and Hartley were both brilliant Hartley's arrogance subtracted from the experience of working at Star Labs while Cisco's warmth and humour only added to it.
- Even though Cisco revealing Barry's identity to Snart could threaten his plans he immediately forgives him for it. Thawne then helps him out of his Heroic BSOD by telling him that he did nothing wrong by protecting his brother and that everyone wants him to stay because they love him.
- In a Deleted Scene from "The Trap" it's revealed Thawne arranged for Caitlin to get a job offer from a university as he didn't want her to have to deal with being judged by the public for her association with him.
- In his will he left Star Labs to Barry as welll as a video confession where he admits to Nora's murder so that Barry's father could be exonerated. This is mixed with a Kick the Dog though as he mocks Barry in the video and slanders the name of the real Harrison Wells.
- Villainous Friendship: Thawne initially appears to have this kind of dynamic with Damien Darhk but this is subverted as Thawne starts to treat Darhk like a lackey and it becomes apparent he doesn't see the rest of the legion as his friends at all.
- Would Hurt a Child: The only reason he got stuck in the past in first place is that he went back in time in order to kill Barry as a child.
