Inc Awesome

The entire movie is awesome, more so than any other animated film, but some moments deserve particular recognition:

  • Mr. Incredible stopping a police chase and rescuing a kitten stuck in a tree in one move.
  • Mr. Incredible catching the jumper in mid-air, then landing in the building across. The crowd cheer after a brief silence.
  • Bob helping customers exploit legal loopholes and access insurance money. Mr. Huph has difficulty figuring out how he does it, let alone stopping it.
  • Bernie Kropp, Dash's least favourite teacher, determining that Dash was placing thumb-tacks on his chair, considering Dash's Super Speed.
  • Mr. Incredible and Frozone during the Burning Building Rescue. They still get out of there and save everyone.
  • Frozone, when he convinces a cop to let him get a drink just so he can freeze the cop.
    • He freezes the damn bullet.
  • Mr. Incredible gets one for throwing his boss through several walls. Yeah, it caused him trouble, but after the man forced him to watch a person get mugged and do absolutely nothing about it, knowing full well what was going on, you can't help cheering him getting what he deserved.
  • Edna is a walking CMOA. When you're 4 and bit feet tall and can flabbergast Supers, you can't be anything else.
    • Her mansion has many awesome features, particularly her secret underground supersuit testing chamber that has fire, machine guns and missile launchers. The security system and general aesthetics also deserve mentioning.
    • She didn't just patch up Bob's old suit, she also made new supersuits for all five Parrs, each catered to their respective wearer's powers, particularly finding material that turns invisible as Violet does.
  • Syndrome's base, including the Omnidroids, lava wall, the array of futuristic vehicles and the design of the facilities. His own technology, such as rockets boots, zero-point energy and life detection drones are also awesome.
  • Mr. Incredible hiding behind Gazerbeam's bones to evade detection from a life detection probe, then sneaking back in to the facility. His cover was only blown by the tracking beacon Edna built into his supersuit.
  • Gazerbeam using the last of his energy to carve 'KRONOS' into a cave wall, enabling Mr. Incredible to discover Syndrome's Evil Plan.
  • Shoutout to the Supers who beat an iteration of the Omnidroid, particularly the later, more advanced ones.
  • Edna telling Elastigirl exactly what to do. "Pull! Yourself! Together!"
  • Helen's handling of the situation where homing missiles were closing in on the plane.
  • Violet's role in the story: she knew something was up and hired a babysitter so she and Dash could stow away on the plane, all with the intention of helping their parents. This has a snowball effect on the story, firstly with Mirage's Heel Face Turn on Syndrome simply due to the kids' presence on the plane. She frees her family from Syndrome's prison and later saves them from Syndrome's falling plane with her force fields, and suggests they use the rocket's coordinates to get back to Metroville.
  • Elastigirl protecting Violet and Dash when the plane explodes.
  • To get to Nomanisan Island, Elastigirl turns himself into a boat while Dash holds on and kicks from behind to act as a motor.
  • Mirage calling out Syndrome over him not trying to save her, leading to her Heel Face Turn.

Mirage: Next time you gamble? Bet your own life.

  • Elastigirl's infiltration of Syndrome's island base is truly awesome, and the Crowning Music of Awesome is just gravy.
  • Dash and Violet using their powers professionally for the first time and learning that, yes, they're Super, and they can hold their own against fully grown bad guys. This was with no experience of using the powers aside from pulling pranks, spying on crushes and fighting with each other.
  • Elastigirl knocking Mirage out for the count. Yes, she did it under a wrong assumption, but knowing what Elastigirl thinks is going on is enough to see it from her side. Elastigirl must have one hell of a punch.
  • Dash running on water, as well as his periphery abilities to punch and dodge at rapid speed.
  • When Violet turns invisible in an attempt to hide from a guard, he just throws some dirt in the pond to determine her location. This shows that the guards are actually competent, averting The Guards Must Be Crazy.
  • Four words: Don't! Touch! My! SISTER! This is when Dash saves Violet from being shot, just before she returns the favour.
  • Dash and Violet have one together when Violet forms her forcefield ball and Dash runs it along, hamster-ball style.
  • The family (minus Jack-Jack) kicking butt together, preceded by the awesome pose that provides the page image.
  • "The greater good?! I am your wife. I'm the greatest Gooooood you EVER gon' get!"
  • Violet saving herself and Dash from the Omnidroid v.10 with a force field, before she is knocked out by the robot. Mr. Incredible saves them both, and Elastigirl brings her to safety with Dash following. She is then conscious and back on her feet, not even half a minute later.
  • The big fight against the Omnidroid v.10, which was only surpassed by the Incredibles fighting together against Syndrome's mooks.
  • Just when it looks like Syndrome is going to abduct Jack-Jack, the baby suddenly manifests a smorgasbord of powers. He successfully escapes from Syndrome's grip, and his mother catches him after being thrown by his dad. Mr. Incredible then throws the same car he bought with money paid to him by Syndrome to end it all.
  • At the end the Underminer declares war on peace and happiness. The Parrs are ready to fight together, and the film ends with Bob pulling his shirt open to reveal his costume beneath.

Other[]

  • A behind-the-scenes example has to go to Holly Hunter for actually learning what the radio protocol for pilots actually meant. The result: an intense, nail-biting scene that doesn't feel scripted, which for an animated film is truly mind-blowing.
  • Snug, who Helen rang to hire his plane, was originally the pilot, so he was doing everything Helen ended up doing.
  1. A little trivia, Honey Best was voiced by singer, rapper and songwriter Kimberly Adair Clark
