Tropedia

  • Before making a single edit, Tropedia EXPECTS our site policy and manual of style to be followed. Failure to do so may result in deletion of contributions and blocks of users who refuse to learn to do so. Our policies can be reviewed here.
  • All images MUST now have proper attribution, those who neglect to assign at least the "fair use" licensing to an image may have it deleted. All new pages should use the preloadable templates feature on the edit page to add the appropriate basic page markup. Pages that don't do this will be subject to deletion, with or without explanation.
  • All new trope pages will be made with the "Trope Workshop" found on the "Troper Tools" menu and worked on until they have at least three examples. The Trope workshop specific templates can then be removed and it will be regarded as a regular trope page after being moved to the Main namespace. THIS SHOULD BE WORKING NOW, REPORT ANY ISSUES TO Janna2000, SelfCloak or RRabbit42. DON'T MAKE PAGES MANUALLY UNLESS A TEMPLATE IS BROKEN, AND REPORT IT THAT IS THE CASE. PAGES WILL BE DELETED OTHERWISE IF THEY ARE MISSING BASIC MARKUP.

  • Arc Fatigue: More than ten years since the series started and Darkseid has yet to put his foot on Earth.
  • Continuity Lock Out: Zig-zagged. Recaps are offered every now and then, but the story certainly makes a lot more sense if one reads all the chapters.
  • Moral Event Horizon: Arcade. Kidnapping his classmates: bad. Teaming up with the Joker: also bad. Murder of his parents: Moral Event Horizon.
  • Never Live It Down: The fic boasts some impressive Worldbuilding and Canon Welding but as Mega Crossovers that also feature those in spades have pollinated the internet since The Last Son, its own successes in those fields have been seen as nothing too special and its defining quality has steadily become the fact that it turned Krypton into a Mary Suetopia and shills DC at Marvel's expense, something that tends to turn away any new potential readers or cause people to cite The Last Son as an interesting premise done wrong.
  • Seinfeld Is Unfunny: In 2006, The Last Son was a revolutionary crossover, weaving together DC and Marvel and creating a wonderful new universe. As little as ten years later, it can be seen as a Dork Age Cliché Storm that mixes outdated ideas about comic book characters, shills Superman and the Kryptonian race at the expense of everyone else and self-limiting by only mixing two fandoms.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: A common complaint about the series. All the Marvel heroes get hit with Adaptational Wimp, while the villains generally get Too Dumb to Live, and are walked over by their DC counterparts. Doctor Doom is defeated by Superman, Ronan the Accusser is humiliated by Lobo, and General Zod smacks Thor around. All of which led to angry grumblings from Marvel fans.
  • Unintentional Period Piece: The fic notably hypes up Darkseid as its Bigger Bad. From The New Tens onwards however, a crossover would likely, thanks to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, have Thanos in that role.
