An American version of the Korean series King of Mask Singer, which is better known due to the fact that far more people live in America than Korean.
The show was launched in 2019.
Tropes used in The Masked Singer include:
- American Title
- Christmas Episode: Season 2, a week ahead of the Finale, had a two night "Holiday Event", the second part featuring Christmas (and other December Holiday themed) music, decorations, and costuming galore.
- Deadpan Snarker: Robin Thicke.
- Five-Man Band:
- The Hero: Nick Cannon
- The Lancer: Jenny McCarthy
- The Big Guy: Robin Thicke
- The Smart Guy: Ken Jeong
- The Chick: Nicole Scherzinger
- Four-Temperament Ensemble: Nick Cannon is choleric, Robin Thicke is phlegmatic, Ken Jeong is melancholic, and Jenny McCarthy and Nicole Scherzinger are both sanguine.
- Genki Girl: Nicole Scherzinger
- The Host: Nick Cannon, formerly of America's Got Talent, and now with more hair.
- In-Series Nickname: Ken Jeong is not just the star of Dr. Ken but actually a qualified doctor, which has led to Nick Cannon calling him "Dr. J".
- Sixth Ranger: The guest panelists.
- Thematic Theme Tune: The Who's "Who Are You", fitting for a series where the identity of each contestant is concealed until their elimination. (To drive this home further, it's also played during each unmasking.)
- Tomboy and Girly Girl: Jenny McCarthy (Tomboy) and Nicole Scherzinger (Girly Girl).
- Widget Series: It's often described as surreal, what with all the fanciful costumes and all.
