The Demonoids and one Evil Overlord. What will we explore in this series?
The Reapers Series is a Web Animation series created with Vyond by Death the Hate Master - Vyond and Beyond which released on November 15th, 2021 on YouTube. The Reapers in the series are often portrayed as sociopathic and petty monsters who are willing to torture and murder their victims for fun.
The episodes can be found on this playlist on YouTube.
Tropes used in The Reapers Series include:
- Artifact of Doom: The Crimson Necronomicon counts as this in this case. Bonus points for being the overarching antagonist of the series, as it is revealed that the book is responsible for Reaper (real name is Caylan Theo Storm) being accidentally cursed and being exiled from society after getting disowned by his Abusive Parents and corrupting Reaper and the other Demonoids via their grief into launching an invasion, almost bordering on Demonic Possession.
- Berserk Button: A lot of members of the Reapers (which includes Amiira Storm herself), or a few members of the Strikers (Sinclair in particular), tend to have this. For example:
- Amiira Storm will become enraged if she sees anything that makes fun of her, such as posters or flyers of her or her family (even the Strikers) depicted as fat asses or karen stereotypes, as they will not take it too well....
- Even talking trash about her or anyone she is allied with isn't such a good idea either. Some of her victims find this out the hard way whenever they gang up on her to make her either make her apologize to the victims which ends in complete disaster as it usually backfires in their faces, or make her enraged enough to make her lose her composure. This usually ends up being a bad idea as provoking her or any of the Reapers usually bites them in the ass at some point.
- Brainwashed and Crazy: There are some instances of this occurring throughout the series:
- In episode 17, the Reapers kidnap Medaly and corrupts her into attacking her own allies by placing the Demonic Corrupter earpiece on her ear. It is averted when the earpiece is removed and she returns to normal.
- In episode 68, the Reapers try this again, only this time, Tvisha LoliRock is the one who gets corrupted by the aforementioned earpiece which corrupts her into attacking her own friends and allies. This is once again averted when the earpiece is removed.
- In episode 94, the Reapers try this again for the final time, but this time, with the Strikers helping them out. As for who they corrupt? Former members of the Squad Agents. You can take a wild guess on what the end results turn out.
- Bullying a Dragon: Many of Amiira Storm's victims take advantage of Amiira Storm suffering, usually by laughing and taunting at her, to which she makes the message quite clear to her victims that she will not take being taunted at lying down.
- Didn't Think This Through: Whenever the families of the victims (or the victims themselves) confront Amiira Storm, they fail to take into account on how much of a threat she really is until it is far too late. This usually happens when they make her apologize to the victim or issue threats against her, which immediately backfires, or prompts Amiira Storm to turn their threat around and threatens them instead.
- Disproportionate Retribution: Happens quite a lot in a lot of episodes, where it mostly borders on Evil Is Petty, such as accidentally bumping into Amiira Storm or Bianca Starr. It's shocking when you realize that the reason why the Reapers are doing it at all is over trivial or petty slights that don't even warrant torture. Sometimes, even the other characters resort to this that either goes too far or is far too disproportionate to even call it proportionate. For example:
- In A Raven Tormented!, Reaper and his gang brutally attack Raven Fernandez for simply being a troublemaker in the first place. Reaper even makes his true intentions quite clear: Reaper: After we're done with him, he'll be wishing he was dead.
- In VHS Trouble!, Rebecca Ohlm gets revenge on Amiira Storm by stealing her medications all because she and the Reapers hospitalized Violy Anderson. It backfires as she is immediately caught by the latter and results in a No-Holds-Barred Beatdown. In the end, they are both suspended from VHS for 2 weeks by Carolina Ramirez after reprimanding the both of them. Amiira and the Reapers would later add salt into the wound by mercilessly attacking her, which results in her escaping them, and later walking like a zombie, complete with a number of injuries done to her body. The Violy Crew are horrified to see her face looking completely white and completely brain-damaged.
- In Aiden Atrocity!, Reaper, Sinclair, Amiira Storm, her parents, Bianca Starr, and their gang dials their Disproportionate Retribution up to eleven, as they all break into Newton and his friends' houses to threaten them. And their reason for doing so? All because Newton and his friends decided to make flyers poking fun of them. Sinclair Blakely even goes the extra mile of threatening to dox them (and thus leaking it on to the dark web, which is WAY over-the-top) if they are to ever skip town or disobey her in any way (i.e. calling their friends to help protect Newton).
- In A Raven Tormented!, Reaper and his gang brutally attack Raven Fernandez for simply being a troublemaker in the first place. Reaper even makes his true intentions quite clear:
- Early-Installment Weirdness: At the start of the series, Reaper, along with Inferno had different eyes (except for their eye colors being red) before eventually being upgraded, completely ditching the old design in favor of the new one in the middle of the series.
- In A Raven Tormented!, Scarlett J. Black can be seen blushing at a picture of Raven Fernandez. This is eventually averted when Sarah "Flame" Evans takes notice of her blushing and snaps her out of it.
- Everyone Has Standards: Isabella Gonzales in episode 3 is horrified when she learns Reaper and his gang's true intentions when they ruthlessly torture Raven all because he's a troublemaker in the first place.
- Evil Is Petty: The Reapers throughout the series react to minor slights by attacking them for either no reason, or because they think it's fun to torture them.
- For the Evulz: Basically what the Reapers do throughout the series, until the final 11 episodes where it is revealed that both Reaper and the gang have had an awful history with people, ultimately averting this trope.
- What's worse is that the only reason why Amiira Storm chose to torture victims is not just because she's enjoying it, but rather because of trauma, ultimately puts this trope over its head.
