Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire is the 1st episode of Season 1 of the American long-running sitcom The Simpsons, as well as the very 1st episode of the entire show ever (though it's not like that in production order, it's actually the 8th episode to be produced).
In this episode, Marge had to spend all of their Christmas funds to remove a tatoo Bart illegally got. Homer is upset when he finds out about this, and, without getting any work bonus for Christmas (along with all of his employees), so he tries to pose as a mall Santa to try and earn funds.

(Though this in airing order, not production order; that role goes to the episode Some Enchanted Evening, the Season 1 finale. This episode just aired 1st due to animation problems with that episode.)
