  • All new trope pages will be made with the "Trope Workshop" found on the "Troper Tools" menu and worked on until they have at least three examples. File:The weatherman is the devil beside you 7358.jpg

A romance between a straight-laced newscaster and eccentric weatherman whose Boke And Tsukkomi antics form the core appeal of their program. Koganei is a talented newscaster whose misstep in covering a conflict-of-interest story got him downgraded to the early bird slot at Chou-Hayaoki TV. Amasawa in contrast is a free-spirited weather "fairy" on the program who does all his reports in elaborate Cosplay. Under Amasawa's influence, Koganei begins to become more comfortable with his place at Chou-Hayaoki and falls in love with Amasawa, but despite his apparent outgoing personality Amasawa persisently keeps everyone at a safe distance.

The first volume covers their work relationship and inevitable romantic one, while the second volume involves another newscaster attempting to break them up while Koganei is on a work exchange in America. Overall a light-hearted and sweet Boys Love story with a charming cast.

The Weatherman Is My Lover provides examples of:[]

  • Absence Makes the Heart Go Yonder: Thankfully it doesn't.
  • A Storm Is Coming: Used both literally and dramatically. Amasawa is perfectly able to predict the typhoon that kills his parents, but wasn't able to convince them not to go when he warns them about it.
  • Beat/DelayedReaction: Koganei pauses unnaturally long twice after Amasawa makes sexual remarks on air. The first time he collects himself and continues as if nothing happened, making his response after the second time that much more satisfying as a proper Beat moment.
  • Benevolent Boss: The crew seem to consider the producer some form of this.
  • Blush Stickers: Amasawa gets them.
  • Bunny Ears Lawyer: Although Amasawa's general behaviour and his odd cosplay habit are actively used to draw in viewers of the program, it is something he seems to do regardless and is also likely what keeps him confined to the early bird program.
  • Closed Door Rapport: Koganei goes to Amasawa's apartment when he skips out from work and they have a heart-to-heart on opposite sides of door, culminating with Koganei's request, "Won't you let me in? Let me into your heart, Amasawa." Amasawa decides to take his chance.
  • Cosplay Otaku Guy: Amasawa self-identifies as one.
  • Gay Aesop: Very, very briefly (and humorously) appears when one of the ADs asks how they're supposed to act around Koganei and Amasawa now that they know they're together, and the other give a brief Nakama speech

"Koganei-san and Chitose-san are both our precious casters! We all love them!! So what if those two discovered that their feelings for each other ran a little deeper? You see some kinda problem with that!?"

"You're the one who changed me, Amasawa. And I'm sure you already know...that I'm the one who can help you change."

 Amasawa: "Cute?"

Koganei: "Yeah...I mean NO!"

  • Manic Pixie Dream Guy: Amasawa to Koganei, although he turns out to be more of a Stepford Smiler than he lets on.
  • Manzai: Discussed as being the appeal of the program the characters star in, which would otherwise have very little audience thanks to its timeslot. Amasawa's silly antics are met with no reaction whatsoever by Straight Man Koganei and the audience is anticipating the moment he snaps.
  • Moe: The viewers think Koganei's cool attitude is this.
  • Nosebleed: Discussed and Played for Laughs. One of the ADs notes that the group trip is exactly the same as a school trip, excepting maybe the students who get nosebleeds from overexcitement. Immediately thereafter Koganei thinks through the implications of being at an onsen with Amasawa and has one.
  • Opposites Attract
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: When Koganei and Amasawa don't show up for work one morning, the backup plan involves two crewmates and a pair of glasses, wigs, and a cosplay outfit. Fortunately for everyone involved they do show up in time.
  • Prime Time: What Chou-Hayaoki is explicitly not.
  • Romantic False Lead: Leon.
  • Spider Sense: Amasawa can predict weather via his hair.
  • Stepford Smiler: Amasawa, whose guilt over his parents' deaths led him to avoid getting close to anyone while maintaining a bright facade.
  • Stoic Spectacles: Koganei.
  • Straight Man: Koganei. Borders on Only Sane Man when the rest of the crew are deprived of sleep and coffee.
  • Super-Deformed: While it comes as goes as needed for the most part, the producer of Chou-Hayaoki actually does not seem to exist outside of Super-Deformed mode.
  • Those Two Guys: The ADs.
  • Triang Relations: Volume 2 features type 4, with Leon as a, Amasawa as b, and Koganei as c.
