Season 1[]

  • Thomas's first CMoA happens in "The Sad Story of Henry" when he is called in to push Henry out of the tunnel. Despite Henry resisting Thomas's attempts by putting his brakes on hard, Thomas manages to budge him several inches.
  • Henry overcoming his fear of the rain in "Edward, Gordon and Henry" and helping Edward take the heavy Express to its destination after Gordon bursts a safety valve.
  • Thomas's second CMoA comes in "Thomas and the Breakdown Train" when he uses the titular breakdown train to rescue James after the troublesome trucks send him flying off the rails.
    • Extra points for making the trucks, who made a fool out of him in the previous story, whimper and cower in fear, even slamming one of the trucks hard into another truck that's being lifted back onto the rails.
  • In "Troublesome Trucks", James successfully pulls a goods train that constantly held him back and gave him problems. The Fat Controller put it best in the closing moments of the episode:
Cquote1

The Fat Controller: "After that performance, you deserve to keep your red coat!"

  • Terrance coming to Thomas's rescue in "Thomas, Terrance and the Snow" after Thomas gets stuck wheel-deep in a snowdrift.
  • Thomas and Bertie's race across Sodor, with both of them constantly neck-and-neck on both rails and roads. Thomas wins - barely.
  • In "Trouble in the Shed", Gordon, Henry and James decide to go on strike since they see themselves as being too important to shunt. When Edward, a smaller tender engine, is tasked with collecting their trains for them, he gets the scab treatment and is insulted and hissed at constantly for having "black wheels". The Fat Controller then brings in Percy, a little tank engine who quickly befriends Edward. Later, as Henry comes by hissing again, Percy outdoes him with an enormous "wheesh!", sending Henry rushing back into the sheds.
  • In "Whistles and Sneezes", Henry and his driver's plan to get their own back on a group of silly schoolboys who threw stones at Henry's coaches and smashed their windows. Henry's driver fills his smokebox to the brim with soot and, when Henry passes underneath the bridge again, he lets out a huge sneeze and covers the schoolboys from head to toe in soot. Their expressions afterwards are priceless.

Season 2[]

  • In "Saved from Scrap", Edward arranging for Trevor the Traction Engine to be purchased by the Vicar in order to save him from being scrapped. Because everyone on Sodor fears getting scrapped, Edward's act of heroism would start a chain reaction that would later inspire Douglas and his drivers in Season 3, and then Rusty in Season 4.
  • In "Old Iron", James runs away out of control after a pair of mischievous boys fiddle with his controls. Edward, despite being "old iron", is able to catch up to James and allows his fireman to bring him back under control, preventing a serious accident.
    • Earlier, Thomas and Percy chastise James for insulting Edward's age and competence on the rails, saying that Edward would beat James in a race any day.
  • Duck standing up to Gordon, Henry and James in "Duck Takes Charge". Until he showed up, poor Percy was being endlessly picked on by them. It's not hard to see why Duck and Percy are good friends; Duck was the first engine who stood up for the little guy!
  • Duck saving an entire train full of passengers from some runaway trucks in "A Close Shave". The dialogue afterwards says it all:
Cquote1

Barber: "I didn't know you were being a brave engine!"
Duck: "That's alright, sir! I didn't know that either!"

Cquote2
  • Donald gives a hard bump to a spiteful brake van for deliberately making Douglas's trains late in "Break Van".
    • At the end, Douglas smashes the brake van into tiny little pieces while pushing James' train up the hill, which is satisfying considering that the brake van caused so much trouble for Douglas and got exactly what was coming to him.
  • In "Edward's Exploit", when Edward gets the train rolling again despite his broken crankpin and that Triumphant Reprise of his theme song starts playing. The passengers cheer when he arrives at the station, even though he's late.

Season 3[]

  • In "Percy's Promise", Percy manages to bring a Sunday school excursion train back to the end of Thomas's branch line through a flooded section of track.
    • The TV adaptation featured "The Storm Theme", which would later be played in "Gallant Old Engine".
  • Bill and Ben saving the quarrymen from a landslide in "Heroes".
  • In "Escape", Douglas follows Edward's earlier actions and saves Toad and Oliver from being scrapped by sneaking them past station security and putting them at work elsewhere.

Season 4[]

  • Duke holding back Sir Handel after the latter slips off the rails and almost falls off a cliff in "Bulldog".
  • In the episode "Four Little Engines", Skarloey continues on even though he's badly worn out and has a broken front spring.
  • In "Gallant Old Engine", Rheneas has a moment where, after suffering a jammed gear valve on one side, he still struggles onward with his train.
    • Made even better by the Crowning Music of Awesome which plays as he struggles on. Plus, he HAD to finish his journey, or else the railway would close.
  • In "Rusty to the Rescue", inspired by Douglas saving Toad and Oliver from being scrapped, Rusty saves Stepney from obscurity by arranging to have him put on the Bluebell branch line so he can be useful again after Stepney mentions that he likes bluebell flowers.
  • In "Toad Stands By", the trucks on Sodor refuse to listen to Oliver, singing rude songs and playing mean tricks on him. They're led by S.C. Ruffey, an old privately-owned wagon. What does Oliver do? He pulls S.C. Ruffey apart! Needless to say, S.C. Ruffey and his gang of trucks have never played a trick on Oliver since.
  • In "Bowled Out", a snooty diesel engine breaks down after he sucks an inspector's bowler hat into his air intake, just as he's about to take an express train. The only engines left are Duck (an ex-GWR 57xx tank engine, built in the late 1920s for light passenger, station pilot duties and shunting) and Stepney (an ex-LBSCR A1X "Terrier" tank engine, built in the 1870s for even lighter passenger, station pilot duties and shunting). They manage to get the train to its destination ahead of schedule. To cap it all off, this is the last duty Stepney performs before going back to his preserved line in England.

Season 5[]

  • The Fat Controller saving Stepney from being melted down in "Stepney Gets Lost".
  • In "Rusty and the Boulder", Rusty gets into an awesome but nerve-wracking high-speed chase with a massive boulder.

Season 6[]

  • Jack jumping in and saving Thomas from falling off a bridge in "A Friend in Need".
  • Henry pulling 20 trucks in "The World's Strongest Engine". This was the first time ever in the television series that an engine had pulled that many trucks.

Season 7[]

  • Emily makes her debut in "Emily's New Coaches" by saving a broken-down Oliver from a head-on collision with Thomas.
  • Salty and Fergus saving a ship from crashing into the coast in "Salty's Stormy Tale".

Season 8[]

  • Percy startling Iron 'Arry and Bert by whistling loudly at them in "Percy's New Whistle", paying the two bullying diesels back for scaring him with their horns.
  • Thomas making it around a sharp bend without Annie and Clarabel's help in "Thomas Saves the Day". Right afterwards, he manages to alert the signalman to divert a set of runaway trucks from crashing into a station, wrapping up both plots nicely.
    • On a meta-note, it's also considered to be the highlight of an otherwise sub-par season.

Season 11[]

  • After being intimidated by a bad-tempered hopper truck all day in "Hector the Horrid!", Thomas finally loses his temper when he frightens Rosie and proceeds to shunt him so hard that he goes straight off the rails.

Season 16[]

  • Stafford gets one in his debut episode, "Welcome Stafford". After being bossed around by Spencer all day, Spencer gets himself stranded without any coal. Stafford nonchalantly shunts him all the way to Knapford Station.

Jack and the Sodor Construction Company[]

  • Byron saving Alfie from sinking into a mud put in "A Happy Day for Percy".
  • Alfie saving kittens from being crushed by a collapsing building in "Alfie Has Kittens".

Movies[]

Thomas and the Magic Railroad[]

  • Lady being steamed up for the first time in decades and puffing away down the titular Magic Railroad. It mingles with Crowning Moment of Heartwarming.
  • The climactic chase scene where Lady, Thomas and Burnett Stone send Diesel 10 (and P.T. Boomer in the original cut) careening off a viaduct.
  • Another awesome scene is Toby throwing a wrench into Diesel 10's plans by ringing his bell so loud that he startles Pinchy and causes him to knock over a shed, trapping the diesels inside.

Hero of the Rails[]

Misty Island Rescue[]

Day of the Diesels[]

  • Percy rallying the entire Steam Team together to have them take back the Steamworks from the diesels.
    • Flynn and Belle stopping the Dieselworks from burning down.
