The film[]

  • Ass Pull: Bumblebee gets his voice back... somehow. He literally ripped out the voicebox that had him speaking in Siri's voice but he somehow managed to speak, in his natural voice no less, to Nemesis Prime.
  • Big Lipped Alligator Moment: Bumblebee's reassembly scene.
  • Cliché Storm: One of the biggest complaints about the film. Nearly everything about it; Earth being Unicron, Transformers influencing human history, rogue elements of the American government hunting down Cybertronians, quasi-divine Cybertronians with a Mysterious Past; has been done before by other incarnations of the franchise, if not by prior films. And in the opinion of most fans, it had been done much better beforehand.
  • Evil Is Cool: One thing about this film that everyone seems to adore is Megatron's Truer to the Text redesign paired with Frank Welker doing his Transformers Prime voice for the character.
  • Fandom Rivalry: Fans of Arthurian Legend are, to put it mildly, not very fond of this movie, due to its rather fetid take on King Arthur and Merlin.
  • Fanfic Fuel: The Knights label Quintessa as "the Great Deceiver", seemingly confirming that she's an Unreliable Narrator. So where does she come from?
  • Harsher in Hindsight: Edmund Burton mentions that he's the last of the Order of the Witwiccans. Among the photos of the deceased is Stephen Hawking who died a few years after the film, which takes places Twenty Minutes Into the Future/Next Sunday A.D.. Eerily prescient.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Daytrader, played by Steve Buscemi, attempts to sell Starscream's head to the Autobots. Fast forward to Transformers One and Buscemi ends up voicing Starscream.
  • Idiot Plot: Quintessa wants to revive Cybertron. Simple enough but Optimus has the Matrix in his chest, and the Matrix, per Word of God, has the AllSpark's energy contained within in it. Why can't that be used to revive Cybertron?
  • Inferred Holocaust: Visuals imply that Cybertron scraped away Hong Kong. As a newscaster says, it's very likely that, at least, millions of humans died to heal Cybertron.
  • It's the Same, Now It Sucks: More like "It's Still the Same, It Still Sucks."
  • Memetic Loser: Maybe not "Loser" but this is not a popular version of Hot Rod. The French accent (which almost results in him being an Ethnic Scrappy) and his utterly unrecognizable robot mode weren't very popular.
  • Memetic Mutation: "Shut the frag up Daytrader!"[1]
  • Retroactive Recognition:
    • Only two years after the film, Izabella would become known to the world as the live action version of Dora the Explorer.
    • Three years after the film, Santos could be found as Cristóbal Rios on Star Trek: Picard.
  • Rooting for the Empire: After the human race is still made up of Ungrateful Bastards, many fans, and even some reviewers, actually hoped that the Decepticons would kill off humanity for Cybertron's sake and that the Autobots would be helping them.
  • Sequelitis: After Transformers: Age of Extinction proved itself a Surprisingly Improved Sequel, this one... really wasn't.
  • Signature Scene: Cybertron healing.
  • So Bad It's Good: This seems the main response to Hot Rod's French accent. Yeah it's cheesy and awful but Hot Rod's own hatred of it makes it rather funny.
  • Special Effect Failure: It happens a lot. The choppy aspect ratio and cutting between scenes often evokes a feeling of disconnect between the actors and the CGI Cybertronians.
  • Take That, Scrappy!: After Shane and Tessa's relationship in the last film was viewed as Squick, the latter is reduced to a single voice cameo and the former wasn't even mentioned.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: Well technically, Unicron is in this film. But he doesn't do anything, and he certainly doesn't clash with Primus.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: Optimus pulling a Face Heel Turn. At first, Optimus seems to agree that he needs to make amends for protecting Earth at Cybertron's expense but he's instead just Brainwashed and Crazy during his stint as Nemesis Prime.
  • Unacceptable Targets: Given the usual response to humans in Transformers media, human children in particular, it was no surprise that Izabella got some hate even before the film came out. But when a rather Vocal Minority decided to attack Isabela Moner herself, most of the fanbase came to her defence, noting that, while anyone can hate a character, hating on a 16 year old actress who was just doing her job was indefensibly awful. Turned out to be rather ironic since Izabella was decently received.
  • Unexpected Character: When the cast list was released, everyone expected Stanley Tucci to reprise his role from Age of Extinction as Joshua Joyce. It wasn't until the day of the film's release that it was revealed he was portraying a totally unrelated character: Merlin. Yes, that Merlin.

The toys (Mainline, Studio Series)[]

  • More Popular Replacement:
    • The second version of the Premier Edition Bumblebee in comparison to the first release.
  1. Both Hound and Daytrader's actors starred in The Big Lebowski with John Goodman's character often spouting "Shut the fuck up Donny!" to Steve Buscemi's character.
