Okay, that Karma Houdini thinks they got away, and the Hero is upset about it. Of course, the Hero can’t simply kill a loved one of the villain because that person had nothing to do with the Houdini’s crime. However, karma stills strikes and takes out a loved one of the villain as a reminder on who’s in charge.
What this trope explains that while someone can become a Complete Monster, they still must have a reason to keep going since what’s the point of being evil when can’t share it with someone. Sure, the person who abandons evil at one point, but they would have feeling for a Big Bad person. When that loved one of the villains is taken away, it can have an effect on the character, such as:
- Despair Event Horizon: All hopes are gone
- Sometimes, this could be the reason for a Face Heel Turn and vice versa.
- Villainous Breakdown: Where a villain really uses it
- Villainous BSOD: Developing a set of principles and stops responding.
This is different from I Will Punish Your Friend for Your Failure because it devotes to taking out rage of a loved one of a person due to that person’s actions.
